TEXANS VS EAGLES INJURY REPORT

HOUSTON

This is the week for ankle injuries.

Dunn sustained a low ankle sprain last game

Hopkins sustained a low ankle inversion sprain last game............although his foot is not listed, he is still dealing with it's effects..........likely what led to his ankle sprain.........not a great combination going towards the playoffs........he needs a rest

Miller sustained an ankle sprain last game..............................
I slow-mowed the play.............the mechanism of his injury is consistent with a high ankle sprain rather than a run-of-the-mill lateral or medial ankle sprain. Although the Texans have said "his ankle sprain is not serious," I would take that with grain of salt. I don't see him being able to return any time before the playoffs (functionally in any way), if by then........wearing a brace.

Tyson sustained a concussion last game and is in the Concussion Protocol

Kelemete added a rib to his elbow injury

Mancz continues to have issues with his knee.........the same problem that kept him from being used much last year

Not much change otherwise

PHILADELPHIA

DE Michael Bennett (foot).............suffered a nondisclosed foot injury in week 12 and has been playing through it............sustained a foot injury last Oct that dogged him during the season..........this injury was a plantar fasciitis, the same injury I strongly suspected he is again dealing with as it is a chronic condition that can only improve with significant rest but is notorious for recurrence and progression..............this injury has ended many an NFL player's career............last week, he was Questionable and played exactly that way..........no stats at all...........

CB Sidney Jones (hamstring)................ hurt his hamstring early in a Thursday night game on Oct 11............missed 3 weeks (would have been 4 weeks had there not been a Bye) ..........tried to return Nov 19 and quickly re-injured his hamstring and missed the next week........he played very sparingly the next 2 weeks, then on Dec 9, he went on to re-tear his hamstring for the 3rd time..........can't see him playing this Sunday........if the Eagles get desparate and push him out there, they should have a gurney ready specifically with his name on it

OL Isaac Seumalo (pectoral)......sustained a pectoralis major muscle tear week 14...........hasn't practiced since..........don't expect to see him Sunday..........in his 2016 rookie year, he suffered a pectoralis major muscle tear in the 2nd preseason game and missed the last 2 preseason games and the first 7 games of the regular season(would have been 8 weeks including the Bye)

QB Carson Wentz (back)..............
The type of fracture he has sustained is a stress fracture. He has had severe back pain for quite a while this season and from I have been able to find, he was put through multiple CT scans and MRI which is notoriously inaccurate for stress fractures. Surprisingly, in all that time, they never ran a bone scan, the most accurate test for detecting this type of fracture.......and the very first test I would have run after continued problems after no diagnosis after the first CT scan and MRI. A Vertebral stress fracture does not require surgery, but is much worse than a true fracture in that instead of 6-8 weeks healing, it requires 3-4 months of rest for healing to occur. Wentz is very fortunate not to have the fracture complete and displace while he continued to play. Now that the diagnosis has been made, he should not be on an Injury Report as "Doubtful".................he should be OUT...........for the season.
...............for further info on his injury with pics and diagrams, see my follow up post http://www.texanstalk.com/posts/2892606/

He was listed as a limited participant with the designation “not injury related -- rest” back on Oct 12 . The following 2 weeks Wentz appeared on the report with a back injury (so his prior "rest" was probably due to a disguised back problem). Pederson refused to answer whether the back injury from October and the more recent problems are related.........his response.........the stress injury he’s currently dealing with “evolved over time”.................exactly what the predictable history of this type of injury follows.

His long complicated journey back from his ACL/LCL no doubt had significant effect on his core, setting him up for an injury to his back.

What's even more interesting is that Wentz had a prior lumbar stress fracture in college, as reflect in his medical records at the Combine.

Sup with Foreman? Did he practice at all?
He's been practicing since he was activated to the 53, but has not appeared on the Injury Reports as his Achilles is well-healed.............I would have to say that after 13+ months, it better be physically healed. Nothing more can be extrapolated to future potential performance.

A couple of observations:
Kelemete now seems to be a walking injury history.
Foles scares me as much as Wentz would.

I know it won’t happen, but if we could how long would you rest Hopkins?

Until the playoffs?

That would be the ideal.........certainly, if we clinch the playoffs Sunday. That foot, although not on the Injury Report this week in lieu of the ankle (which would empirically place additional stresses on the foot), continues to worry me as it could give out at anytime without extended rest, and probably surgery.

I guess we'll know if Miller's injury is more serious than they're letting on if he sits out this game and Foreman plays.

As always, thanks for the information Doc!

HOUSTON

Carter has dropped back to DNP..........not progressing in the Concussion Protocol is not a great sign.

Weeden..........appeared on the Injury Report for the first time for illness.........probably sick of not playing.

Miller remains limited.........shortly after his injury, he was on the sideline trying to run and cut to test out his ankle............that's not something you want to do immediately after any type of ankle sprain.........certainly didn't help himself out any in his recovery.

Philadelphia

Bennett remained at DNP............he has repeatedly over weeks gone through this same routine and still managed to play.

Jones, Seumalo, and Wentz remain grounded and would be surprised to see any of them to play Sunday.

With his recurrent back problems this season, Jernigan may play this Sunday, but he may not finish.

Hicks, with his calf tear may try to play again on Sunday, but again may not finish.

Elliot and Jeffrey are dealing with an illness that seems to be going through their locker room............they will try to play, if for no other reason but to pass it on to as many Texans players as possible.

Cox is probably being given a rest day..........will play Sunday, but may be slowed..........a little.

Alexander was held out after a limited practice yesterday..........suspect his hamstring is a significant issue, as it is recurrent..........he suffered a hamstring tear this past mid Sept.

LeBlanc injured his hamstring in yesterday's practice...........would not look good for a Sunday return.

*****I have confirmed that this week is a non contact week for the Eagles.........so interpretation and expectations stemming from the Injury Report must be "tempered" accordingly.

*****Although I've heard rumors that the Texans did not carry out contact practices yesterday or today, I have not been able to confirm this.

HOUSTON

Lots of Texans on the Questionable status.............JJo, Kelemete, Coutee, Dunn, Hopkins and Miller...............Hopkins will play, unless his foot falls off.............if Miller is pushed into action, he will have to be pushed into action...........Coutee should sit until playoffs............JJo may have been rested today so that he can possibly make it through Sunday.............Dunn is unlikely to from a fresh ankle sprain...........Kelemete may be pushed to play due to the condition/numbers of our OL, if so, it will probably show.

PHILADELPHIA

As I predicted, we will not be seing Jones, Seumalo or Wentz on the field Sunday.........Alexander is likely to keep them company.

Count Bennett in despite being questionable.

Jernigan, being Questionable, as I previously stated may play, but will be questionable as to performance and as to if he is able to complete the game.

LeBlanc, who injured his hamstring in Wed's practice will be hard bent to play Sunday.

*********Again, keep in mind that both of these teams hadn't had contact practices this week..........and today is a walk-through for both.

Source tells me Carson Wentz really wants to play thru stress fracture and got another opinion on his back with specialist while Eagles were in LA, but that doctor agreed with Eagles that rest is best right now Doug Pederson: “We’re going to trust the medical staff”
