Texans vs Cowboys AAR

Stingley following CD, win for Stingley and hope Demeco keeps this in his bad when there is a stud receiver. Dude could have had three picks tonight. Pitre was a wrecking ball, that defensive TD broke everything wide open.
Joe Mixon, absolute beast, and finally used him in the passing game more effectively. He missed the one on the goaline that could have been a TD
Pass rush, slow in 1st half, whooped them asses in the second. In general the defense was good except for covering the tight ends. Calen timed out that one pick to only drop it with a full head of steam, could have gotten into lead for DROY maybe
Oline, slightly better. Micah pressured all night but between Strouds movement and Oline only had one sack
Nico, very nice safety blanket and big play machine. The YAC was back.
CJ - B-. Only because I grade him on the accuracy we know he has. Missed a TD to Nico turning it into an interception.
Seems like we finished healthy, so good for a short week. Nice to see three starters on defense get to recover this week.

Slowick sucks
Scruggs sucks
Tunsil only had 1 dumb penalty and 0 false starts

Ryans soft zone is maddening

Overall the OL did a good job despite Scruggs suckiness
Schultz with his inability to block caused a few problems

Defense is impressive when they want to be but Lassiter and WAJr are needed back out there. Stingley is a beast!

I haven’t watched the game yet. Decided after the TNF Jets game i’m not going to let the Texans alter my sleep schedule again this season.

But I am thrilled to read this bit about Stingley:

Surprising performance: Coach DeMeco Ryans usually doesn't let cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. follow opposite star receivers. But against the Cowboys, he occasionally let Stingley follow All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, and he answered the challenge. Stingley covered Lamb for 17 routes and allowed only two catches for 19 yards with an interception and two pass breakups while drawing an offensive pass interference. Rush had a passer rating of 3.5 when throwing in Stingley's direction, according to Next Gen Stats.

That’s why he’s here. If this team is going to get to where we want them to be then the stars like Stingley have to perform.

No significant injuries that I recall.

Okudah able to knock rust off but gave up at least one big play.
I thought Christian Harris was out with hamstring but discovered it was hip injury.

We didn't need Blake Fisher and black cats everywhere breathed sigh of relief.
Murray burst through although didn't get QB. Good to see effort and safeties blitzing during game.

Hope there is a pill for qb shell shock that doesn't violate NFL rules.

For some reason I thought Harris had a calf injury (that didn't make any sense due to the length of recovery.)

The shell shock comes from finding out the pocket won’t be as open as it was at Ohio State.

Overall a good performance. Glad Nico is back. I wasn’t thrilled about the penalties. Going remain positive although some boxes are still unchecked. This team is talented and roster wise can make the afc championship. I still believe in Cj. He hasn’t played his best ball as of late. I believe a lot of pressure has been on him physically and mentally from the earlier games and I’m ok with him making mistakes. I expect him to get his groove back and play better in our remaining games. This team will be hard to beat with a healthy Mixon and Nico. No defense scares me

We won. Screw the analysis. We all know the Texans are good, they just aren't that good yet. Texans and their offensive line is like the Titanic and icebergs.

Are they not that good? Cause the Texans hung around with Detroit better than most teams. They beat the Bills who beat the Chiefs.

The team has had three issues:

Oline - Green and Scruggs were the problem and now it’s just Scruggs.

Health - Players were injured and now are back in the line up healthy.

Shell Shocked QB- Stroud has it. He has had 50+ something hits and sacks. There is a direct correlation of wins and losses when Stroud is sacked more than 3 times in a game. Less than 3 sacks in a game and Texans win. He needs 2 or 3 games of low pressure to get back to where he was last season.

Get Stroud back to being comfortable and not getting hit or sacked and we will be even better.

Love the win, but Stroud is still missing too easy of throws. I hope this builds a little confidence for him. Come playoff time, he has to dial it in. I counted 5 throws yesterday that he simply missed and changed the dynamics of the drive. He has to do better.

Slowik still sucks, but it doesn't minimize the fact Stroud is still missing easy throws.

Missing easy throws, not stepping up in the pocket, and not leading his receivers.

No surprise

When the Houston Texans traded for Joe Mixon this offseason, many figured he'd be around for a one-year deal. When the Texans inked him to a new three-year ext...

Well he has to build his confidence back up, as well as slow his internal clock down a few notches. The young has been beat on all but what 2 games this season. How many of us can take those type of hits and still complete a high percentage of our passes?

It’s going to take some time for him to build his confidence in that offensive line back up. Hopefully in these next few games the offensive line would repeat the performance they had against the Cowboys and keep him protected

This crap right here been going on all year and one particular member think he suppose to be able to operate in it.

This just makes you scratch your head and say WTH. I wished someone would ask the coaches what is the blocking assignment against that front? Exactly what would make Patterson totally ignore someone that's not lined up directly over the center. There has to be a reason besides brain cramp. Right?

Wasn't his guy.. Scruggs messed up.

A lot of his play calling does suck. You’re acting like nobody shouldn’t criticize or question some his terrible play calling.
When the season started, how many penalties did the offensive line have that stalled drives? No OC’s play calling is perfect. That’s a straw man. However, Joe Mixon has never looked as good in his career as he does here. So it’s not all terrible as Bobby is doing something right. Stroud isn’t being asked to do as much now, so what I have realized is his miscues loom larger because it’s a more balanced offensive attack. Last year Stroud could throw us out of 2 and 20 etc. He isn’t being asked to do that now.

That's fair and raises a couple of questions. Against that front. Who is he blocking? If it was a stunt on the left? Who would he pick up?
Cannot tell much from that video but from what I remember watching the game, Scruggs seem to be playing more to his left to make up for Tunsil also leaning to his left. Tunsil with his injury often jumps to control his guy. Scruggs should have picked up the closer guy to his right but didn't. He still doesn't have much time at left guard and I am willing to give him more to improve. A question we should be asking is how many times did that same play happen after that sack of Stroud?

Also, that play call that sprung Nico for a TD that was called back thanks to Tunsil, was good play calling.
Interestingly on that play, Laremy Tunsil was flagged for being downfield and that surprises me as it was a passing play. Usually, he jumps back or back and to his left.

If he ever comes back. Many talented QBs come into the league take a few shots & are never the same again. Do you think Bryce Young will ever regain the form that made him the #1 overall pick? Do you think Davis Mills will ever be that guy he was as a rookie?

Or is Cj Stroud the only one given the benefit of the doubt?

I'm rooting for the kid, but it's not a forgone conclusion.

Well Burrow has shaken it off after being crushed for a few years. He has time and you can tell his confidence is back.

What benefit? I said it will take him some time to build that confidence back up. That’s if he’s not at the point of no return like Carr was.

The Panthers had to bench Young and rightfully so. He was way off and now he’s playing much better. The Texans and CJ isn’t at that point yet.

Man Mills never was good, dude couldn’t hit an easy 5 yards out route to save his life.
