Predictions for 9/12

Weather: Clear & 89° (Roof Open)

Tailgate Menu: Shrimp & Bacon Brochettes, Beef & Chicken Fajitas

Final Score: Texans 20 Chargers 13 (Texans cover spread of -4.5 points)
All 4 of Texan scores come off of Charger turnovers. Tomlinson catches late TD pass to make score look closer.

Texans tied for AFC South lead after Week 1.

Arrive home in time to watch Vikings finish off Cowgirls 24-0.

Perfect Sunday. :)

My "2004, prior to the season even starting, I am so certain of this that I'd bet the farm" prediction is that the Texans will begin the 2004 season 2-0.

Count on it.

Slightly off topic, but wanted to point out that the Texans' compatriots have some tough games at the front end of their schedules:

Week 1:
Indianapolis at New England
Jacksonville at Buffalo
Tennessee at Miami

All away games. Indy/NE is obviously going to be a tough grudge match. Buffalo/Bledsoe start strong and Buffalo has a good D. Miami is obviously ailing on O but the D is good and other than when they play undefeated on opening day teams they are generally pretty strong in home openers.

Week 2:
Denver at Jacksonville
Indianapolis at Tennessee

Obviously one of the top two teams in the division is going home with a loss this weekend with a strong opponent for the third team.

Week 3:
Green Bay at Indianapolis
Jacksonville at Tennessee

Same deal.

Week 4:
Indianapolis at Jacksonville
Tennessee at San Diego

OK so TN should have it easy, but at least one more loss in the division still.

We or course face San Diego, Detroit, KC and Oakland. Sure would be nice if the Texans could start strong through this period and build confidence and momentum.

We may be a bunch of homers but I think this time we have good reason.

2-0 on opening day: I contribute this to Dom Capers having the extra time to prepare hard for that first game.

At Home: We are already tough at home as is, even if only a handful of wins.

So put us at home on opening day against a struggling franchise? I like our chances :boxing:

Fine. But can you give some compelling reasons as to why the Chargers will win? At least last year against the Dolphins I could say, "The Texans never lose on opening day".

Everyone, let's pray for the Texans to toss the Chargers out of Reliant Stadium. I mean they have La Danian Tomlinson, but he won't be scoring touchdowns in the Texans' house.

They have LT but then name someone else. Texans will win. :headbang:

We owe the Chargers from season 1 when they man-handled us. Saou (sp) acted like an *** ( never a taunting call btw ). Too bad his old butt doesnt still play for them. No way the Texans lose this game. Im also looking for revenge on Jacksonville and the sucker hit on our kick returner.

Well, I wouldnt mind if we won and he scored a couple TDs......I would only want that to happen if he was on my fantasy team, though. :D

The only times I'll be praying for the Chargers to have a shot at winning will be when they are playing everyone else in our division.

I think this opening game is a lock for the Texans. But if you polled the Dolphins last year, how many of them thought the same thing for their home opener? (SOOOO glad I was there to see that!) I really hope Capers stays on these guys about focusing and not taking this opener lightly. It's probably the team's best chance to win back-to-back games all season.

31 - 17 Texans

Too much time to prepare for Capers, too much young and hungry talent on the side of Houston. Mr. Tomlinson, meet Mr. Babin.

Not taking the Chargers lightly but would like to see broad particapation from as many Texan players as possible. Focusing on fundementals, distribution of the ball on offense, special teams, eliminating turnovers and closing the defense tightly around the Charger jugular.

Will LT gain 100 yards rushing? Maybe, however against the Texans he will be most effective dropping underneath for screens and dump off's. Cappers will need to assign one of the linebackers to him, who would you pick Wong?

I don't see the Chargers stopping David Carr's weapons with the revamped line, even if Dominack sits it should be along day for the Charger defense.

Texans 24
Chargers 10

You guys are forgetting one thing....Ladanian Tomlinson. I went to TCU with the guy.
Its gonna be tough to contain the guy.
But the Texans will be on top
27-17

He can't do it by himself. Their WRs are Kevin Dyson and Tim Dwight. Their OL is a patchwork. They are starting guys like Steve Foley on defense. If the Texans don't win this one easily I'll be a little disappointed.

Our boys have good attitudes and are very hungry for the win. Injuries the only thing I am worried about. Texans all the way, 17-10. :headbang:

2002 Texans 19 Cowboys 10 Texans win by a lot more if Jermaine Lewis doesn't drop that ball

2003 Texans 21 Dolphins 20...We jumped out to a big lead and didn't really play like we shouild BUT playing on a crappy baseball/football field with that slick dirt didn't help(also DD didn't play that game)

2004 Texans 28 Chargers 7 Flutie injured DD plays D gets stronger with offseason acquisitions and with Draft picks.......We are ONLY expansion team in history to win 3 STRAIGHT openers

:headbang:

Texans 24 Chargers 13

Game Notes: Carr 250 yards passing with 2 TDs, Davis rushes for 100+yards, and Johnson 90 yards in Receptions. :headbang: :thumbup

As of my post, it seems all of us think the Texans will win.

The poll has it 62-0. Of course, I doubt many Chargers fans have voted....even if they do feel they have a chance.

This is the first time I have noticed who the other teams in our division are playing the first four weeks. If Jacksonville doesn't beat Denver at home, they are looking at a possible 0-4 start.

I see it as Texans 24 Chargers 14

I hope to see lots of rushing from both teams though, my fantasy team's RBs are LaDanian Tomlinson and Domanick Davis, so naturally the fantasy Gods grant me the opportunity to watch both in the same game!

Can't just jump on this one as a SURE win. Chargers looked a LOT better than I expected in their first pre-season game.

Well, it's surely the most likely win the Texans have ever had on their schedule. Opening day at home against the worst team in the league from the previous season. It certainly would be the most disappointing loss.

What I said before about the best chance for back-to-back wins...should be noted that Harrington didn't look shabby at all last night. Neither did C. Rogers. They're putting together a very nice young team up in Detroit--this will be a really fascinating game to watch, and I hope the east coast media doesn't ignore it because the Texans are in it--like some reporters did REGULARLY last season.

Sounds like one we can just mail in - right ? Kinda like the one the 'Fins had
in their opener last year in Miami - right ?

I don't know about anyone else, but the first year when we drew the bengals I thought we were going to beat them by a fair margin and they handed it to us pretty good.

That's an absolutely fair point and worth noting.

The Bengals that year where easily the worst team in the NFL and deep down they knew it. A loss to the Texans would have been a terrible thing to them at the time because it's one thing to be the worst team in the NFL and it's even worse than that to lose to an expansion team playing it's first season while you're the worst team in the NFL. The Bengals reached down deep inside themselves and pulled out a butt-kicking. The same butt-kicking that every team in the league is capable of delivering if the circumstances are right. Nobody is a sure thing in this league.

Two years later I don't think that San Diego is going to be in that kind of situation. They're not going to be favored to win but they aren't going to be facing an "ultimate insult" kind of situation either. Can they beat us in the opener. Oh yeah. No doubt about it. Will they beat us in the opener. I personally don't believe so.

The Texans come into openers well prepared with a solid game plan. They have had success on opening day against tougher opponents than this. They have some favorable matchups that can be exploited in this game. They're no longer an expansion team and can't fall back on that label/excuse (as if they ever did). They'll show up with 70,000 screaming fans behind them and take care of business.

I stand my ground on this. The Texans will win this game and the one after it. They will enter Arrowhead Stadium 2-0 and from that point forward we'll just have to see what happens.

Nothing is for sure, and if we fans know it - the team will for sure know it; especially on the season opener. SD's secondary is no slouch, and Drew Brees is playing with purpose, and most of us agree that LT could be the very best talent in the league - and maybe before it is over, of all time. We will have to do what it will take to win, and I look for a great contest that will go 'til the clock stops! I believe our Line and Davis will control the time of possession, and Carr and the recievers will show they have stepped things up. Our defense should get pressure on Brees, and load up on "sack killing drives." We have to watch out for penalties - and in the end, Chad Stanley, and Kris Brown will give us the edge for another opening season victory, and a jump out front to the rest of the division.

Maybe he thinks the Chargers have a good chance. Maybe hes on crack. Who knows. But he is entitled to his opinion. Thats why I made the poll.

My money's on the crack... :) But there ain't no sure wins in the NFL, so SD does indeed have a chance.

Heck, I saw a guy on the CNNSI website today who wrote in to one of their columnists to let him know that the Chargers were PLAYOFF-bound. Uh, speaking of controlled substances....

In this league any team can be a play off team...well maybe some don't fit that....I'm not on any controled substance either. maybe Tylenol cough med.
