Texans Training Camp Preview 2023

Can we see some real time football before saying this or that looks bad? Lol

We love to jump off the deep end whenever we hear bad reports. And toss up the champagne when we hear something positive.

I'm only sharing what some of those who are attending are publicly stating. The game in 8 days will demonstrate where the offense is.

A long time ago, I learned that you usually learn more from failure than success. I expect rookies, especially QBs, to have struggles. I don't expect rookie QBs to come out their first season and play well, although that happens more these days than it used to. I'll always remember Cam Newton looking like absolute dog poop in his first preseason and then coming out and throwing for over 450 yards in his first game (and I think he had back to back 400 yard games).

But if everything was sunshines and unicorn farts in preseason for Stroud, I'd be afraid they weren't pushing him hard enough.

It's readily apparent that he wants CJ to be a bust so that he can crow to everybody here that he was right.

Wrong

I just dont like the player or the person.

I actually hope I'm wrong.

I'm no longer buying what the McNair's are selling and I'm in prove it mode when it comes to the Texans org. There will be only one I told you so moment, but if he does something dumb I'm going to call him out, or after yr 3 he pulls a Derrick only then will you get the I told you so moment.

Will Anderson is phenomenal but, in his case, he just has to beat the man in front of him. In the case of a QB, the QB needs his teammates to come through by blocking and getting open and he needs an offensive scheme that is workable. If guys don't block or get open or if bad offensive plays are being called then no QB in the world is going to be successful. It all has to mesh.
Talk about last yr and Mills. The talent is much better on this yrs offense. No excuses

As I said speculated earlier, is Slowik approaching this as if he inherited the Kansas City offense? I sure hope not. It seems that the offense needs to focus on the basics before Slowik implements a complex playbook. One doesn't have to be Bill Walsh to come up with some basic plays that those guys can run. Keep it simple and let CJ and the other young players adjust to the speed of the NFL. If the offense is a DISASTER come September, that's on Slowik. They don't have to be good, just decent, like top 24. That should be doable.
Funny how he along with Shanny/Kubiak managed to do exactly what you are describing with the last pick in the 2022 draft, at mid season. Stroud should be at least as good as Purdy. If he's not and I'm talking about making reads, dealing with dirty pockets etc... then that's on Stroud. Now it's a different story if there are dropped passes, routes run wrong etc... No excuses

Who said anything "looked bad"?

There were some interceptions thrown, but we don't get the context. Even though John Harris gives a good play-by-play, we can't see what's really happening.

Nothing I've read so far has me believing Stroud, or even Young, is struggling. Just going through the paces.

If Schultz plays I'd give them a slight edge over last year. Without Schultz, not so much. You're hoping guys like Nico or Brown just blow the top off anything they've done in the past. Be nice if it happens, probably won't.

Metchie, Tank, Hutchinson... I get the optimism, just not ready to call that "much" better than last year. Not yet.

I remember a time when Chris freakin Moore was the WR1 last yr. Burkhead was the 3rd down RB and who was the starting TE. To be fair Q is running with the 1st team OL in camp and he sucks.

I'll give you Singletary over Burkhead.

Who are you saying is "much better" than ChrisFreakinMoore? It's all speculation without Schultz

Wake me up when Stroud has guys named Deebo, Christian, and Kittle lining up with him. Then we can talk.

He is narrative building. He can cite a backup RB and the starting TE and that’s it. If Schultz goes down, we have squat at TE. This WR core isn’t better. Might be deeper, but until proven otherwise, I don’t see better.

I'm not expecting him to make the plays Purdy makes. I'm expecting him to not make mistakes like Purdy doesn't make.

BTW, Pierce/Schultz/Woods/Metchie if healthy , while not the guys you listed, aren't chopped liver. In fact those weapons are pretty much on par with the rest of the AFC South's weapons. Good, not great.

I can't believe you would have expectations of a rookie coaching staff to be on par with an established SB coaching staff with one of the truly brilliant minds leading it...

oh wait, yes I can, it's who you are after all

Kansas City? You mean SF? I don't know tons about Slowik but what I do doesn't indicate he is confused about his talent.

My concern rather is fans think we have SF or KC talent.

At the end of the day it should be a competition. Whoever wins it wins it. Put the best player able to win games. If the coaches feels that is Keenum, Mills or Stroud.

Having Stroud sit the bench isn’t the end of the world.

Starting Stroud when he isn’t ready can be the end of the world.

Fair point.

This is a timing based offense. You need a lot of reps to get the timing right. It doesn’t help matters that the CBA limits the amount of offseason work players are allowed to do with their team, particularly in pads.

There will be growing pains for the offense. But if the OL performs as advertised the run game should be able to mask the passing offense deficiencies until the players get enough reps to learn the offense.

On the plus side, I expect the defense to immediately be a factor. This defense will be a problem for opposing offenses. They have talent at all levels and should be a disruptive unit that forces takeaways and gets the offense more opportunities.

Which will keep the team competitive. Keep Stroud from throwing more than 30 times a game. Defense and running game, that is this team’s calling card this season.

I will be the first to say that you have kept with your mantra of hope for the best but expect the worse.

The news out of camp on WAjr has been promising and exciting. Really hope he continues to impress well into his NFL career here in Houston.

But I've got one question for you....What did the janitors do?!?! LOL. On a serious note the Organization itself (as far as stadium, trainers, dieticians, building personnel) has been rated as top notch and one of the very best in the NFL by players and employees alike...so looks like we just gotta get the product on the field straightened out and back to pre bill o dumbdumb/jack pos easterby days and we should return to glory.

And whats with the Stroud hate on a personal level?? Do you know him personally?? Did he steal your wife and kick your dog?? I can understand not liking a player as a player...but as a person?!?!?! What bothers you about him as a person?? The fact that he's grounded in family and faith???
Can’t be family or faith. Only one poster can claim that as an instrument to trash human beings. I think it’s because he is probably the spawn of a dumb incarcerated inner city Nigerian midget doctor that was prone to raising dumb children.
