Texans random thought of the day

I totally get that. The point that was being made is that he was listed and drafted as an OG. He could play QB now but on draft night he was OG. That's all.

But he wasn't an OG. Media pundits may have thought he was and labeled him as such. But he played OT in college, many teams were looking at him as an OT, and he was drafted to play OT.

Yes, his so-called "natural" position all of a sudden became guard because of a single attribute even though he never palyed guard. Texans fans his this to Duane Brown also.

When Deshaun Watson was healthy in 2017 the offensive line looked just fine to be honest. It was part of the #1 scoring offense in the entire league. Watson was breaking rookie records. They even put on a clinic in that 57-14 win over the Titans.
That’s a testament to Watson. We all saw what that same offensive line looked like after he went down with an ACL. Watson spent most of his time dodging and slipping the pass rush but thanks to his ability to escape and buy time with legs, he managed to score points and not get killed.

Please don’t sit here and pretend our offensive line is anything better than below average.

This. Same thing with Russell Wilson and the Seahawks Oline year after year.

Agreed but IMO that's on the coaching. They did not put in a contingency plan that caters or works for Savage. Another percentage goes to Savage for not being able to process what's in front of him quick enough. Then finally the remainder percentage goes to that offensive line. People tends to factor in only was aspect to the problem. Thus the reason why they quickly blame the offensive line.

There was several QBs that were not able to process what was in front of them quick enough last season for the Texans... because the offensive line was poor. It's okay to say it... that's what it was!

And that's why Gaine has signed 3 OL so far this offseason. He knows what the weakest part of the team was last season.

We only had two QB's that logged a lot of minutes. Savage was being hyped up for knowing the playbook. Unfortunately it did not register on the field. As far as Watson his pin point decision making was top notch. He got the ball out of his hands pretty darn fast. When it was time to buy more time in the pocket, he did it wonderfully with his elusiveness. Even the great Tom Brady didn't have a top notch line, but his quick decision making and quick pin point trigger is what helped his offensive line out.

If Savage were able to get the ball out quick as well as make quick decisions, along with being able to read what's in front of him. He would've been able to help the offensive line out.

Newton has not been ruled out for 2018. Never more than average IMO but before he was injured, he was described as player to move to left tackle if Brown went out. Not saying he could handle that this season but if Big D cannot be the guy perhaps after starting RT 2018 Newton could be ready by 2019. Hey if I'm gonna dream why not dream big?

it really does not hit u until now on how magical Watson played when he was in last year the stats and plays and points he was putting up was insane ..... if anything if he can play better then Brock or Savage this year then man we are already ahead of the game

C/mon badboy, did your dream include Newton getting better? He was a turnstile engineer as RT and somehow, during all this time off due to a career threatening injury, he became good enough to compete at LT. Texans might be better off sticking a tackling dummy at LT with Newton's jersey on it versus letting him actually go on the field.

Each year of his career he has had defenders and attackers and I have actually been both at times. I'm not saying it's a done deal or anywhere close in 2018 but focus was on 2019. I am not the only one seeing this as a possibility but do understand your thoughts. As we have been discussing for months it wouldn't take much to be better than Giacomini who managed to play most snaps IIRC. Riddle me this..why hasn't he been cut now he is off injured reserve?

All the years that he played, even when totally healthy, I thought he was the weak link in our chain. When he played, he looked very much to me like someone teams would not use a draft pick on. He does, however, come across as an intelligent and fine young man. That is an interesting riddle !

Do the Texans by any chance employ an Aquatic Engineer (Waterboy)? That's about as close to the team as I would want to see him.

Can we send ALL of the OL guys there?

I mean, seriously.... why not??

Dude has credentials

LeCharles Vernon Bentley (born November 7, 1979) is an American former college and professional footballplayer who was a center in the National Football League (NFL) for six seasons. He played college football for Ohio State University, earned consensus All-American honors, and was recognized as the best center in the country. The New Orleans Saints selected him in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft, and he played professionally for the Saints and Cleveland Browns of the NFL. Bentley was a two-time Pro Bowl selection with the Saints. He retired after a knee injury.

Last year's. We don't know what our OL will be like this season. Last year's was below average. But with three new veterans to replace three underperformers and with a year's experience and a full off season for Davenport, this year's OL is a question mark.

I've been trying to remember this for 2 or 3 years. I saw a special on it years ago and was really impressed. I too, think we should send every lineman we have. All of the guys training there, were starters in the league. They were all learning things there that they had never heard in their lives !

FWIW THIS EARLY. Jeff Allen is working out here in Houtson with an highly touted OL coach. He is evidently building up, especially his endurance. If he stay I see him on the left side, not even ruling out LT.

How the Texans' depth chart looks after first wave of free agency

I questioned the article the moment I noticed that they had Jeff Allen back at RG. It's like damn, don't any of these folks take the time to read texanstalk? :). If they would, we could get them on the right path in a hurry.

I agree Doc but everything I see has Fulton at LG and Allen at right ..again. I would like to see Allen get some time in preseason at LT. I am a huge fan of Big D but we need best guy there. I wish Allen had more snaps last season at left tackle.

It might become a necessity to put Allen at LT....then everyone can close their eyes and pray for the best.

From what I've read, I think we should stick Allen at LG, and leave him there .... until he succeeds or fails .... seems like his history is there. I have no clue what to expect from our three free agent signings. I know Miami is shopping RT Ja'waun James. I've heard he is a solid player with a promising future .... with the desperate shortage of O Linemen in the league, why would they be moving him ?

I completely wrote off Newton returning in my mind, but in the miraculous event that he is able to make comeback and contribute, I do agree a position change would be in everyone's best interest, but I think to RG where I think if healthy, he would be a solid RG

$9 million reasons... they picked up his 5th year option that will cost them that much. They are trying to sign him to a more friendly deal, but no success yet

Watching replay of Seahawks game and the play where Watson strained/tore his knee happened on a play at the end of 3rd where edge rusher tried to jump over the blocking RB and the pileup ran into Watson and buckled the knee .. he immediately reaches for the knee.

I thought it was a blown offensive assignment or a QB rush .. nope just a fluke play.

The Texans have been working out several punters in the last 2 weeks. Wonder if anything is going on with Lechler..........or just to become familiar with them in case something happens to Lechler this season.

If memory serves, they've had another punter in camp the last 2 years at least. Probably just to take some of the load off the old man's leg in camp.

I think it is just we have a soon-to-be 42-year-old punter. There is point where the Texans are going to need a new one.

Texans "Season Ticket Holder" gift selection came in the email today. Holy crap! Looks like they selected them from the damn Dollar Store bargain rack.
A phone charger with the Texans logo on it and a "Season Ticket Holder" wall décor thingie. Come on man!

Still have my tie pin in the shape and colors of an Oiler helmet. Can't remember any other "rewards".

Had two mezzanine level season tickets for several years. Failing memory says first year I purchased them the tickets were $7 each and parking was $3.

Some years I felt overcharged.

Bud blew the budget to gift his season ticket holders.

:coffee:

This shouldn't surprise any season ticketholders. We are talking about the McNair's here. Gotta make up that lost revenue from the lost Dallas preseason game.

I'm done here.
