Inside Look: Texans Coaching the South Squad at the Senior Bowl
The Houston Texans are set to start a busy week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, working with the South squad the entire week leading up to the game on


The Houston Texans are set to start a busy week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, working with the South squad the entire week leading up to the game on Saturday. As they work closely with the prospects, the Texans will be able to gain valuable information which they can use when it comes to draft time. General manager Brian Gaine will lean on the coaches to gain more insight on the prospects.


“As we come through the all-star games, we’ll begin to assign our coaches' player evaluation responsibilities as well,” Gaine said of the coaches helping evaluate players. “And then as we move through our meetings in February and April, it’ll be my job and Coach (Bill) O’Brien’s job to consensus build that information and the evaluation process so that when we put a grade on a guy, we put a ranking on a player, that’s a Texans grade, that’s not a coaching grade, that’s not a personnel department grade, that’s a Texans grade.”


Bill O’Brien will also be getting his new-look staff together and will have a trial run on practices with the prospects, most importantly, allowing the players to get their time to shine for other NFL teams to evaluate also.

Since coming into the league in 2014, Clowney has played in 47 career games. He's freely labeled as "injury prone".
In that same time frame JJ Watt has played in 40 games. At what point do we look into the "injury prone" label for him as well?

My dream scenario was JJ and JDC lined up next to one another on a third and long. It saddens me that we may never get them in this situation and both of them are healthy/not coming off of rehab. I still have hopes though of them crushing Tom Brady tho. Sigh...

Good one. Folks can drone on and on about RS but the Texans have had sh!t injury luck. It's not the number but how key.

DeMeco & Cushing could have been the best ILB duo in the league - both injured.

Watt & Clowney - both certainly with shortened careers.

Foster, AJ

Even Schaub to a degree.

Remove any 2 of those and the Texans have a very different record.

I found it interesting Jerrah bought the Cowboys for $140 mil in 1989 money ($276+ mil today) and that Forbes list says the Cowboys are now worth $4.8 billion.
Yeah, Jerrah's team still tops the list.

J.J. Watt can’t wait for next season

This time last year, J.J. Watt was saying the same thing he is saying this year: He can’t wait for next season.

The Texans defensive end has not played a full season since 2015. He played three games in 2016 before more back surgery and five games in 2017 before surgery to repair a tibial plateau in his leg.

Watt reported his rehab is on track.

“I feel very good,” Watt said Friday, via John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. “It’s a day-to-day process. I’m really pleased with the progress we’ve made. I’m really, really excited about next season.”
 


Former Texans employee sues team for sexual harassment

A former Texans employee alleged that she was sexually harassed by the team's former director of football operations and is seeking $1 million in damages in a lawsuit filed Friday against the team and Jason Lowrey.

Kristen Grimes, a former suite sales account executive with the team, alleges "improper treatment," and "assault" from Lowrey and "negligence" from the organization, her attorney Scott Hunziker said.

The Texans said the "matter was properly investigated and addressed at the time the complaint was made (November of 2016)" and "will vigorously defend ourselves against this litigation."

Grimes worked for the Texans from 2013 to 2017. Lowrey is no longer employed by the Texans after his department was reduced in size after the season.

I was thinking the same thing. I honestly think they should keep Eddie and McNair since they spent most of their time in Tennessee.

I second this. Eddie and Steve were Titans; drafted Oilers but were Titans. This whole thing is the sole reason for my hatred towards the Titans and the entire state of Tennessee. I just want OUR history. Man keep the colors and logos; I don't even care about those anymore. I want our history, our stats. Those belong to the city. Tennessee doesn't give a damn about Oiler legends...but we do. It's some BS. Yes I'm still mad about it. I'll probably only get over it when DW4 delivers our 7 SB wins.
 
It will never happen, but if it did... just split by either 1) number of years played for the team (so Oiler Bruce Mathews) Titan (Steve McNair) or 2) just wherever you finished your career (last game played for Hou/Ten as an Oiler your one of us last game a a Titan your against us)...

Former University of Texas standout football player D’Onta Foreman has entered into an agreement with Travis County prosecutors to dismiss all charges related to a July 2017 arrest in which campus police found a gun and marijuana in his vehicle.

Foreman on Jan. 22 pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct for making unreasonable noise, according to his Austin lawyer, Sam Bassett. The charge will be dismissed if Foreman stays out of criminal trouble for 90 days from the commencement of the agreement, County Attorney David Escamilla said. As part of the deal, Foreman also must pay a $500 fine and forfeit the SIG Sauer P226 .40-caliber handgun that police found in his vehicle.

“It’s the right result for the situation,” Bassett said Tuesday. “It’s not like Mr. Foreman didn’t learn a lesson from this, but he didn’t commit a crime.”

I'm a bit confused. Maybe someone can explain the part "he didn't commit a crime." I was under the impression that a plea deal occurs only in a criminal case.

How can they make him give up his gun?

Have they ever heard of the 2nd Amendment?

It is Austin/Travis county so they just make up things as they go it seems.

Standard practice all over the country. Parole is offered with conditions which you accept or you get prison.

He was an all pro CB in 2016. Did not play well this year but partly could have been due to issues with the coaching staff and team after a bitter contract negotiation/watching Gilmore get the money he felt he earned.

Maybe he’s not an all pro CB going forward but he’s certainly better than he showed this season.
 
He was guilty of not doing anything wrong. Sort of like Texas speed trap. Pay the fine and get on down the road.

I saw that the Texans were 20:1 odds to win the Super Bowl next year which is the same as the Cowboys, Rams, Seahawks, 49ers and strangely, the Jaguars. How are the Jags 20:1 though? The Steelers are 8:1 (Jags beat them). the Patriots are 9:2 (Jags should have beaten them) and the Eagles are 6:1. The Jaguars are as good as any team in the league, IMO. Their defense is stacked. Blake Bortles is more than capable and they'll have a stud wide receiver coming back healthy next year, Allen Robinson, who tore his ACL back in Week 1 against the Texans.

But 20:1 odds are pretty high for a 4-12 Texans team but I guess it's not impossible if you factor in a healthy Deshaun Watson (the most important player to keep healthy), and perhaps, J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus as well.

If we have perfect health in 2018 I could see a Super Bowl run. We would certainly be right there with the Jaguars, in a real fierce battle for the AFC South. I could see the Texans and Jaguars both going 12-4 or 11-5 in 2018.

The Titans, a playoff team, get no respect nor should they!
The Texans spanked them 57-14 with a healthy Deshaun!
However, the Jaguars should definitely be higher than 20:1 odds.

I can't believe how all these Super Bowl and Power Rankings being put out this early can be taken seriously.

Pretty big business, IMO. Always great to take some bets this early. Get some great odds on a few surprise teams and rack up the big money in the end. I kind of wish the Texans were like 40:1 or 50:1 odds. I would have put some money on them.

But even Vegas is wise and knows with Deshaun Watson we're more than capable of competing against any team. We had the Patriots and Seahawks on the ropes, with the lead late in the game on the road, before O'Brien's bad playcalling happened. But Deshaun had us in position to win both games.

But 20:1 odds on a 4-12 team. Eh, not worth it to me.
Even though I could see the Texans winning it all next year.
It would take a lot of luck and a lot of good health though!

He pleaded to the disorderly conduct; everything else was dropped. As part of the plea he handed over his unregistered (I believe) weapon. That's how I'm understanding it.

I understand all that. But the "didn't commit a crime" part seems to conflict with the fact that a plea deal was involved to begin with.
