Texans random thought of the day

Another thing, if Obrien didn't treat his hand picked QBs like high schoolers. B. McNair wouldn't have to tell them to get him a QB asap. Both him and Rick were tired of seeing that circus show.

Lol that skit was ridiculous

RS should've drafted a QB somewhere in the 6 yrs before BOB was hired. It's like not drafting a QB became an annual event. He made no attempt to draft a QB and for neglecting the most important position in sports for over a decade he should've been fired.

He drafted Yates. But Matt Schaub were there guy.

So we have conflicting stories and neither one of us are going to change our minds. It's time to move on.

A little research can prevent a lot of back and forth . I posted this as well. Bill O'Brien starts these conflicting stories. One minute he's saying this , then the next he's saying what you posted. Not in that order disclaimer alert.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000646489/article/what-made-bill-obrien-fall-for-brock-osweiler

The Texans coach gushed over Osweiler during Tuesday's AFC Coaches Breakfast, talking about what he discovered while watching every snap from the former Broncos passer.

"I think the first thing you look at is his film, how he plays the game," O'Brien said. "He's a big, tall guy with a strong arm and he stands in the pocket. When the rush is bearing down on him, he delivers the ball. Now, look, it's not always clean, but there's a lot that goes into that. I think the one thing I like about this guy is that he's got good leadership ability."

OPINION // JEROME SOLOMON
Proof is in the film, according to Brock Osweiler and Bill O'Brien
Osweiler says game tapes show he can start in the NFL; Texans' O'Brien was sold on the QB after reviewing film

After watching Broncos game film, Texans coach Bill O'Brien, left, was impressed Brock Osweiler, right, stayed in the pocket to deliver the ball under pressure. Did last season tell a different tale?

I believe in taking the high road when it comes to the failure of athletes, especially when talking NFL quarterbacks.

Now, some guys just aren't good enough. Some guys aren't built to handle game pressure.

Other guys get caught in bad situations, with bad teammates and/or bad coaching, and struggle.

So, of course, it was easy to have fun with what Osweiler had to say last week about the "proof is in the film" when he said he could be a starter in the NFL.

"I'll take films no one has ever seen for $1,000, Alex," was my tweet on the matter.

But let's not ignore that Osweiler was caught in a bad situation, with some bad teammates (bad as in a receiving corps that was too inexperienced for a quarterback with his talent) and bad coaching (bad as in an offense that might not work and doesn't fit his skill set, run by a hardheaded, hard-as-nails coach for a quarterback who apparently needed cuddling).

When it comes to what he sees … Osweiler isn't the only one whose film-watching has some Stevie Wonder-like qualities.

Bill O'Brien won't talk about Osweiler, but he had plenty to say about what he saw on film after the Texans signed Osweiler to a $37 million guaranteed contract, making him the second-highest-paid player in Texans history after J.J. Watt:

What do you like about QB Brock Osweiler?

"I think the first thing you look at is his (Denver game)film, how he plays the game. He's a big, tall guy with a strong arm and he stands in the pocket. When the rush is bearing down on him, he delivers the ball. Look, it's not always complete, but there's a lot that goes into that. I think the one thing that I like about this guy is that he's got good leadership ability.

"Like I said, he's tough, he's got a good arm, he's accurate. We spent a lot of time studying a lot of different guys - college guys, pro guys - and we felt Brock gave us the best chance to win."

Do you see QB Brock Osweiler as a particularly good fit for the Texans' offense?

"Absolutely. Yeah, I thought he was a very good fit, obviously. We felt like he was a guy that everything that he brought to the table, from his command at the line of scrimmage to his skill set as a passer. For a big guy - I'm sure you guys know his history, he played basketball - he's a very, very good athlete. We think he's a great fit for our offense."
( Like I said he was on board)

Beyond QB Brock Osweiler's size and athleticism, what did you see that you like on film?

"You look for little things. The biggest thing to me was I felt like he had really good command at the line of scrimmage. You could tell on the coach's tape when the play was called, he knew what he was being taught to do by (Broncos coach) Gary (Kubiak), get to the line of scrimmage, get them into the right play.

"Then, the other thing that really stood out to me was when he dropped back to pass, like I was saying in the New England game, they were bringing some pressure on him. Some of the guys were unblocked. He was having to deliver the football and take a hit. There wasn't one time that I saw where he ducked. He stood in there and delivered the ball.

"That's one thing that I know that a quarterback has to have, the ability to stand in there, keep his eyes down field, deliver the ball and take a hit. He did it time and time again in that game and other games. That was one thing in addition to all of his skill set that I like. That was one thing that stood out to me."

So we have conflicting stories and neither one of us are going to change our minds. It's time to move on.

When you say it's time to move on, do you mean it's time to stop bringing this up? Because the only time I mention it is when you bring it up.

I would like to see the Texans make a complete break from trying to be the Patriots South. I don't want any of their back office guys b/c the success they've enjoyed is due to BB.....I don't want any of their coaches b/c their success is due to BB and Brady.

I'll mention this again b/c in my mind one of the better young GM's with solid potential, just keeps moving up the ranks and I'd really like to see the Texans make a move for this guy before another franchise does. Currently Eliot Wolf is the Asst. GM to John Dorsey in Cleveland and I don't see Dorsey stepping down anytime soon since it appears that the Browns are on the rise and Dorsey would want to be the man that made it happen. Also, I don't think Dorsey would stand in the way of Wolf landing a potential GM gig.

I've mentioned his credentials many times and he's worth the look-up to see why I like him as the Texans next GM.

One of these years, this organization is going to win it all. It's funny switching from being a Vikings fan to a Texans fan because it feels exactly the same. We're one of those teams that is usually going to be competitive but it feels like we're never going to win it all because a bunch of morons are in charge (how most long term fans feel for both teams). We're the same thing with different uniforms (not referring to just this year) -- fairly well run teams, with fair coaches that have talent that could win it all if they catch lightning in a bottle. But we now have a legit super bowl QB that could be part of a dynasty w/ coaches riding coattails. One of these years, this organization is going to win it all and this could be the year.

I got fed up with the Cowboys in the mid 90s & decided to follow the Saints when they drafted Ricky Williams. That turned into a clusterfk that most Saints fans were used to. I thought they were onto something when Haslett came in & they saw a little success. That didn't last long. Ricky Williams was traded, Aaron Brooks was exposed, Kyle Turley moved on... when Joe Horn left, I didn't care for the team anymore & found my way to the Texans.

Kubiak coming in & what he did over the next 4 years was very similar to what Haslett did in New Orleans. Changed the atmosphere in the building. Instilling a winning culture. 4 years later, the Saints win the Super Bowl & the Texans finish 2-14.

I'm going to go on a 4 year hiatus. If you need to contact me, check out the Patriots board.

I got two big F U’s:

F U colts. You are going to get the number one draft pick this year just in time to draft Tua.

F U OB. You have killed my passion to watch the Texans. With Luck retiring you will Forrest Gump your way to the playoffs again. It will be interesting what you will do when you can’t run Lamar Miller up the middle for no gain.

I hope Nick Foles, Mariotta, and Brissett stomp a mud hole on the Texans’ arse! Maybe that’ll light a fire under Cal’s ass to step in and bring CHANGE! Please, do not wait till Watson gets physically and mentally destroyed like Luck did!

With the firing of Gaine, I’m not sure that’s necessary. There were 2 audio clips played on the radio during the off season that were promising IMO.

1) Wade Smith played some audio where Cal basically said “we know the areas on our roster where we need to improve just as all the fans know the areas we need to improve. We have the resources and we going to get it done “ I think this is why Gaine is no longer here. He was just too conservative in the off season. Just my opinion

2) after Gaine was fired, BOB said Cal was very clear with him on what he needed to improve, and to me he sounded very humble when discussing this with the media

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...al-mcnair-very-clear-on-what-we-need-to-grow/

I hope BOB improves this season, if not I hope Cal brings someone else in. I think Cal truly wants to win and I’m hopeful he’ll do the right things to get it done

I'll say this one more time:

1. Cal, hire Bill Polian to be an Advisor and your right hand man for 2 seasons. Bill is still involved in football and knows his stuff.

2. Hire Eliot Wolf as the teams next GM. Young, talented and knowledgeable.

3. Cal, step out of the way and let Wolf / Polian find the next HC.

Edit. Forget my original thought. Just enjoying this beautiful windy night with Miles Davis blowing on the wind.

I wonder if Cal McNair still thinks O’Brien is the one to get the franchise to the promise land? If so, WHY?!

Anyone still up to stand outside of NRG with “Fire Bill O’Brien” signs? Lol

Why do people always address the Texans front office by their physical location?

Do people ever talk about how good things are down on Crawford?

Or wonder what's going on over on Polk?

Caesar’s Sports Book Line for Monday night....
Saints -7
O/U 53.5

My prediction
Saints 34
Texans 20

Goes over by the half point.

The Bills just released McCoy. Wonder if he’s worth a kick in the tires for The backfield

Woke up to this news and have been surfing around getting informed. He’s 2 years removed from a 1000 yard season. +4ypc when he’s healthy. Thing is he’s 10 years in. Lots of mileage on those legs. I felt the AP possibility would have been better due to play style, Shady is a shifty runner, this OLine would nullify his impact IMO.

Pass for me.
