Texans Possible Draft Targets (Player Visits, Pro Days, etc.)

Insideop

All Pro
Didn't see another thread with this type of information so I decided to start one. If there is one already out there Mods feel free to move this.

If you come across any information about players coming in for visits, workouts, interviews, etc.. feel free to post them here. Also, if you know of a coach, scout, or the GM going to a Pro Day to look at a player they may be targeting, please let us know. It's always good information for those of us who like to follow the Draft and gives us an idea about what the Texans are thinking as far as who they may pick. Thanks!

Good thread Insideop. Most of those mentioned I'm not interested in with exception of kid from Deleware as an UDFA. I do think we will sign quite a few UDFA. I'm hopeful that Texans continue to hit on 2-3 really good players after draft. Who is going to be this years Dylan Cole? It would be amazing if it was a left tackle.. :fostering:

You may not be interested in these players badboy but the Texans seem to be! They got to have their draft board ready for the Draft and even after for the UDFA's!

Bilal Nichols does seem like a good prospect but I'm not sure he lasts through the Draft. Just curious why Gaine went up there personally to check him out. He was the only GM there. I don't think they even had any Head Coaches there to check him out. Just position coaches.

You’re not interested in John Kelly?

Shrine Game participant Dejon Allen tested well and looked good in position drills. He measured 6023 and 295 pounds, completed 29 reps on the bench and touched 30.5 inches in the vertical jump. His 40 time clocked in at 4.98 while he timed 4.73 in the short shuttle and 7.5 in the three-cone. (hawaii)

Allen, who played left tackle for Hawaii but projects to guard or center at the next level, interviewed with the Minnesota Vikings, Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals and Green Bay Packers.

(Hawaii), safety Trayvon Henderson, participated in the Senior Bowl in January and had a fine week.

Henderson posted a vertical jump of 39.5 inches, touched 10-foot-4 in the broad jump and timed 4.54 in the 40, 4.04 in the short shuttle and 6.88 in the three-cone.

Henderson met with the Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans, Cincinnati Bengals, Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams. He has an official-30 visit scheduled with the Houston Texans.

No I am not. I just don't see him successful in NFL at his weight. He took a lot of hits and he is ranked by most in third or 4th round and Kelly is not worth either. Which Kelly plays in NFL last four games or first four games? Actually last three he had 1.9, 1.9 and a 2.0 avg. He was all over board and ended with 778. He had only two strong games losing one and a win over Georgia Tech in game one that went into two OTs. Some of it was the Oline but when I watched him it was Blah. Surprised that you and Mussop are excited he met with Texans; seems like a misdirection move to me.

Never said I was excited about them meeting with Kelly. Just posting they had a meeting, that's all. I was curious about why Gaine went to Delaware Pro Day to check out Bilal Nichols. I also think all most of these guys they are checking out are late round picks or UDFA's, but they still have to do their due diligence and check them out.

As a third down back late in the draft or as an I drafted FA he would be better than Irvin.

During Senior Bowl practices RAC singled out two prospects that stood out to him:

LB Shaquem Griffin and DL Da'Shawn Hand

Both players would be considered "luxury picks" because they aren't the biggest needs on the board but I think Texans take one of them if they both fall to the 3rd round. Griffin in particular would fall in line with what the Texans are looking for at LB during the draft process. An athletic LB that profiles as a special teams demon increasing the team speed. Hand would add more insurance for JJ and would be a nice depth addition to the DL.

If I were at the grocery store and Gaine said I got to pick out a piece of candy I would choose Griffin because of his outstanding motor and ability to exceed expectations despite his disability.

Nathan Shepard is working out with the Texans after he works out with the Cardinals.

6'3, 315, I think he's a perfect fit for what Romeo wants in a DE or NT.

Hope he's there for the Texans. DraftScout.com has him going in the 2nd rd but NFL.com has him going in the 4th or 5th rd. He's raw but has all the tools to develop into a solid NT/DE.

Here's another article about Dalton Schultz from TexansWire that I thought was pretty good: Dalton Schultz should be Texans' top tight end target in NFL Draft

Here is some information from the article that shows the Texans are very interested in Schultz: "There is certainly interest from Houston: Schultz dined with the Texans last week the night before Schultz’ pro day at Stanford, and is believed to have worked out privately for tight ends coach Tim Kelly. A junior entry into the 2018 NFL Draft, Schultz will not turn 22 until July and is one of the youngest players at his position in the class."

Wisconsin CB Nick Nelson worked out for the Texans last week.

Despite Aaron Colvin’s signing and Johnathan Joseph’s return, the Texans could still stand to add more talent at the cornerback position in the draft. One player who appears to be in their thoughts is former Wisconsin Badger Nick Nelson, and the cornerback worked out for Houston on Monday, per Josh Norris of Rotoworld and NBC Sports.

Texans eyeball a pair of Blue Raiders at MTSU pro day.

Wideout Richie James is under the radar a bit thanks to playing just five games in 2017, but he’s a natural slot receiver who caught over 100 passes in 2016. At 5-10 and 183, James has great acceleration and sticky hands over the middle. He’s also an accomplished return specialist. James is a late-round candidate to replace disappointing Braxton Miller in Houston.

Cornerback Charvarius Ward put on quite a workout. The 6-0, 191-pound JUCO transfer blazed a 4.47 40-yard dash, posted a 37-inch vertical jump and an 11-foot broad jump. The plucky Ward is a late-round/priority free agent prospect.

Southern Mississippi safety Tarvarius Moore will make a visit to the Texans.

Moore stole the show in the 40-yard dash, clocking a 4.35 on his first attempt and a 4.32 the second go-round. The 6-1, 199-pounder also finished the day with the best vertical, at 39 ½ inches, and the top broad jump, at 11-feet, 1-inch.

“I feel like I did pretty good. Put up some pretty good numbers,” he said. “A lot of scouts told me they like what they see. I have a lot of meetings scheduled these next two weeks. Cleveland (Browns), Miami (Dolphins), Houston (Texans), Indianapolis — a lot of places all over. I’m just enjoying the whole process. Just want to go in and impress them in the meeting, show them my football knowledge and hopefully make a team.”
