PManning said he always hated that stat. Said if he has a "Game winning Drive" it means he didnt do his job the first 3.5 qtrs of the game....
I've heard that quote from Manning, as well. I understand his perspective, but at the same time, I do think it is one of the good metrics for analysis of a QB among others. I'd rather have a QB that can finish strong as opposed to one that starts strong but cannot consistently finish the job.

Exactly. The epic stories in pro football often involve end-of-game heroics. Joe Montana's pass to Dwight Clark - ie "The Catch" - comes to mind. Not many folks remember that he threw 3 picks in that game. But none of that matters because of that play and the 49ers won. That's where I disagree with Manning's take. Sometimes the other team is just as good as your's.

Peyton shouldn't be ashamed of that stat. Sometimes it's out of the qb's control. The defense could of given up a score in the final minutes. Doesn't mean Peyton could have done something before that could have prevented that.
I agree. Manning is credited with 52 game winning drives in his career, a very impressive stat to me. Looking at all of them, though, and only one was in the post-season. Maybe that's why he doesn't like that stat? He's never been known as a big game QB.
His buddy Brady does not have as many (43 GWD), but many of them were in the post-season (including Super Bowls).

OK, probably the 6th seed winning the 2 playoff games won't happen, but it is not about realistic possibilities, just mathematic ones. Still, I would like to see it happen - mostly for the crapfest that would ensue when the Texans starting cancelling PSLs for people that they told "there can not be a home playoff game".

Once again I was proven wrong... thanks! This works. Since the Chargers must split, and KC loses in week 17, that means Chargers must lose to the 49ers in week 16.

We need a good quarterback, perhaps even an elite quarterback, if we ever expect to win a Super Bowl or actually defeat the Indianapolis Colts on the road for the first time in franchise history (0-13 now).
Making the playoffs is nice. We've done it twice before and even beat the Bengals in a couple of wild-card games, but I'm tired of not being a realistic Super Bowl contender. Until we find that special talent at the quarterback position we'll always be in this same situation. Wondering, hoping, relying on the next draft or free agency to sort of save us. Our franchise is only respectable right now because of J.J. Watt's MVP caliber performance this season. He's had one awesome year to say the least.
All we need is quarterback who can kick ass and take names. A lot of teams are in the same boat as us. Those teams, for the most part, don't typically go to the playoffs or reach a Super Bowl. Bill O'Brian is a heck of a head coach. I'd argue he's the best head coach in the AFC South, even better than Chuck Pagano of the Colts. But Pagano has Andrew Luck he can lean on. We don't have jack-$hit at quarterback if you know what I mean. Pardon my frustrations. I hid it with a dollar sign.

Definitely agree with you.
I'm going to take the optimistic view and say I think Ryan Mallett can be that guy. I hope like heck we resign him, and let him have the job from day 1, or at least have an honest competition from the start.
BoB is a good coach, who's done a really good job with a 2-14 team from a year ago. Even though the playoff chances are small, for the Texans even to be in the conversation in the next to last week of the season is pretty darn good.
We have most of the pieces, we just need the most important one.

Even though you're on my ignore list, I checked to see if you replied to me because I knew you'd misunderstand me----as usual. Sure enough you did.
No, we're not eliminated and that's my point. I was referring to the post by Bulls on Parade about how he's sick of playoffs and just wants to make a Super Bowl. Uh, yeah. We all do. But we have to make the playoffs first. Teams usually go from sucking, to middling, to contending for playoffs, to being a playoff regular, to being a Super Bowl contender. Only after being in the playoffs regularly can you make the jump from that to "realistic Super Bowl contender as he put it. And his cure for this ill is to find an elite quarterback. Well yeah, no ****.
His underlying point is that making the playoffs doesn't matter to us anymore if we're not going to contend for the Super Bowl. Well, you can't make the Super Bowl if you're not in the playoffs and there are 10 teams every year that make the playoffs but don't make it to a Super Bowl. I'd gladly be one of those 10 teams every year regardless given the choice of being one of those 10 teams, and not being so.
More "if you ain't first, you're last" nonsense from the modern day sports fan mentality.
The way I see it, if you're a Super Bowl contender, you're in the play-offs every year. If you're a play off contender, sometimes you make the play-offs, sometimes you don't.
And sometimes you make the playoffs and sometimes you don't, then one of those years you do you go on and win the Super Bowl

The game right now is huge! The Texans chances improve significantly with a SD loss (so, that red zone fumble was unpleasant!). The Pittsburgh vs. KC game will provide clarity regarding the path needed for the Texan playoff chances. On its own, though, it doesn't determine that much .
Here are the scenarios:
If SD wins, the following things need to happen for Texans to make playoffs (in addition to winning their last two games):
if KC defeats Pitt tomorrow, all the following must also happen
1. Buffalo must lose at least one game (Oak, NE)
2. Baltimore loss to Cleveland in week 17.
3. Pitt loss vs. Cincy in week 17.
if Pitt defeats KC tomorrow, all of the following must also happen
1. Buffalo loss one or two games
2. Baltimore loss vs. Cleveland
3. SD lose vs. KC
IF SD loses tonight, it is a much more likely path:
if Pitt defeats KC tomorrow, then both things listed below must happen)

Here is the game report I would file:
Dominating first half by Frank Gore gave SF a commanding 21 pt lead at halftime. However, an even more dominating 3rd quarter performance by Jeff Tripplett got San Diego within one score. San Diego will need someone besides Tripplett to step up if they are going to win, though. (35-21) with 9 minutes to go.
2:00 to go, San Diego with the ball down 35- 28
If I take something from this game, it's that SF plays with no discipline and Kaepernick while extremely athletic plays with very low football IQ
