Texans Playoff Picture

I think we have a much better chance of winning a wild card spot than the division. Colts might lose one more game.

That doesn't make sense. If the Colts lose this week & we win, we're a game closer than we are now. Then if we beat them @Indy, we're both 8-6 with two weeks to go.

They'll have the Cowboys & the Titans

We'll have the Ravens & the Jags.

I like our chances of winning the division at that point. No way I'm rooting for the Browns who still have Cincinnati & Baltimore after the Colts.

You must not fully understand how the tie-breakers work, because tying them does very little unless we have a better division record, which losing to us and the Tacks would create. So again, the Browns winning hurts us more than it helps. We need them to lose so it is one less team to battle for the wild card spot. The Colts need to lose to us and Tenn. in order for us to have a shot at the division title, unless they fall off the earth and lose 3 out of 4.

I like our chances of winning our final two games more than I like the Colts to beat the Cowboys & the Titans (provided the Titans win the next three NyG, NyJ, Jacksonville).

The Browns still have to beat Cincinnati & Baltimore to finish 10-6, I don't think that's going to happen.

So the Titans that have won only 2 all year have a chance of winning their last 4?

Slow down TK

Yes. They're definitely better than the Giants, Jets, & Jags... someone has to win those three games. With that string of wins (if they win) I'm hoping they'll at least make the Colts work for it.

Besides, it's the Cowboys I'll be rooting for. They Colts would finish 9-7 at best. Granted, it's unlikely that the Colts will lose the next three in a row.

They might be with Mettenberger... with Locker I'm not so sure

The Browns win does ZERO to help us catch Indy, unless they lose 3 out of the last 4 which is unlikely. We all need to be Colts fans this week.

If you want to have a shot at the division, you need to run the table and then have the Tacks win vs Indy in week 17.

It changes things from them having to lose 3 out of 4 to them having to lose 2 out of 3. That is considerably more than zero,

Texans don't turn it around today, this thread can be deleted

Pittsburgh winning today was bad for #Texans. Their conf record goes to 7-3, Hou at 6-3, plus obviously they beat Hou H2H.

Now we need the Titans to pull a miracle out of their ass so we can win the division.

If they lost to the Browns today, then lose to us next week, then it's just the Cowboys who may very well win that game anyway.

Now we need the Titans to pull a major upset with a QB that can't throw for more than 200 yards.

Colts a win from clinching the AFC South. #Texans have never won in Indianapolis. Crazier things have happen.

After a 2-14 season it's nice to still be talking playoff football in December instead of who we should draft #1 overall.

Texans beat the Colts in Indy for the first time ever next week.

If the Texans win out, they'll get a wildcard. Sure there are scenarios where that doesn't happen. But they're unlikely.

Chiefs need to lose to the Cards before it becomes a "certainty" but other than that, yes.

Yes, but scenarios where the Texans lose at Indy, then finish with wins vs. Baltimore and Jacksonville are important... It is very possible... I'd say more possibly than the Texans winning their final six games.

If Arizona, New England, and Denver take care of business today, then that opens up many more 9-7 possibilities for the Texans. Almost any scenario for the Texans must include a win vs. Baltimore.

True. Originally I thought both WC spots were coming out of the AFC North but they spend December beating up on each other.

For the most part, I like what I've seen out of OB as a coach in this first year here. Everything hasn't been pretty, but it is pretty good to at least be in the hunt after going 2-14. If the QB position wasn't so bad, we'd very likely be going.

That's right...if the Texans had to lose one more game, I'd definitely prefer it would be to Indy...in that scenario, and if games go the way they should the rest of today, it's not too much of a stretch to see the Texans in at 9-7.

Another example of mental toughness today:

On the road and calls not going there way early in the game... offense is stifled early and Andre Johnson leaves the game... The Texans outscore the Jags 17-0 in the second half... in previous years, we lose that game.

Well, we still don't control our own destiny. We still need help to win the division.

So near as I can tell, if we lose against Indianapolis, we'd have to beat Baltimore and Cleveland would have to beat Baltimore in Week 17 for us to get in.

At least that's one one-loss scenario.

The Texans almost certainly go to the playoffs if they win out. If they lose one it's going to be a remote shot at best to get in with Pittsburgh, San Diego and Baltimore both being at 5 losses after tonight if NE wins.

It's much more complex than that. We would need to win the last two and also need only one of the following teams to finish with 10 wins (KC, SD, Pitts, Balt, Miami, Clev, Buffalo)... assuming Cincinnati wins the AFC North. It is not unlikely, but there are a myriad ways for it to happen and also for it not to happen. I'm just happy that the next couple games matter... makes things more interesting.

Kinda silly to me that we're talking playoffs before week 15 this year.

Why? That's what fan bases with teams at or above .500 do in December... You would be laughing hysterically if you lived in New Orleans, Atlanta, or Carolina right now.

Yeah... with Cleveland choking, the division is out of hand. You'd need Tennessee to beat Indy in week 17. No way Indy will lay down for them knowing that game could decide whether we play them at NRG or at Lucas.... they'll definitely want the game at Lucas Oil.

So forget about the division, not gonna happen.

Actually, the Cleveland game had little impact on our chance to win the division... nothing changed. We have to beat Indy, finish with the same record as Indy but have a better division record (which means Indy has to lose another game and it has to be within the division-Tennessee)

Considering last year was an anomaly of epic proportions, I'm glad we're back to competing for a spot this year. Frankly, we lost games against Dallas, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati that we probably shouldn't have and even if we won 2 of those 4, we'd be 9-4 and where we should be given the course we were on on 2011 and 2012.

& that's not going to happen.

They needed to lose 3 out of 4, with Baltimore, Houston, Dallas, & Tennessee on deck. We've never won in Indy, but if we did, then they're one bad night in Dallas away from being second in the division.

Longshot, I know. But it started with losing to Cleveland. That didn't happen, so now there is no way they finish less than 10-6, because they're not losing to Tennessee. Especially with Tennessee losing to the Giants today, they're going to start planning ski trips & sabbaticals & things like that.

3 teams ahead of us in the standings. The Texans just need to go out and take care of business.

This Indy game is not the biggest game in franchise history but it is the biggest game of the season.

It might be. Just because we've never won there and losing is devastating. I would say top 3 game of importance all time for sure. I hope we don't lay an egg because you know we wil be prime time in the noon slot.
