Texans Playoff Picture

even if we do make the playoffs we will prob have to go UP to Denver or Pats or both to make it to the SB

Wouldn't mind that at all...that would mean they made the playoffs, a year after being 2-14. I think anyone here would take that.

What!?!?!? You mean the only way to the Super Bowl is by beating the best teams in the conference?!?!? Next thing you'll try to say is the only way to win one is to beat the best team from the NFC. :shocked

Making the playoffs is always important, because a team could always turn all New York Giants and just be the best team in the NFL at just the right time. The Texans have been the best team in the NFL before, but it was early 2012 and not playoff time. Shame to peak at the wrong time, but it would be worse to peak late and not be in the playoffs.

People would kill themselves if Fitz took us to a SB and Clowney had the game winning fumble sack.

The Colts will not lose to the Titans the final game of the season but they could lose the next three games in a row against the Browns, Texans and Cowboys That would give them a 9-7 record. Which means the Texans can just win out and finish 10-6 to win the AFC South outright. I don't want to worry about any complicated tiebreaking scenarios.

i swear I was just thinking about that today. What if this game just made it all click for Fitz and Clowney shows up in the playoffs healthy and lights it up? Oh man the kaos here would be hilarious. Heres to that happening

I actually ran a couple of unlikely scenarios which get the Texans the first seed on the AFC where all AFC entrants are 10-6

I really want to believe. But beating Indy in Indy?? eek.
Although this team has shown more guts at times than I can remember

If they lose to the Browns (Cmon Manzeil kick some ass!!!) then we beat them the following week its all tied up baby. Anything is possible. Of course I'm jaded so I'll be expecting us to either lose a close game to Baltimore or even worse, win at Baltimore then lose big to the Jags in the final game.:overreact:

This team, under this coaching staff, is much more mentally tough that anything we are accustomed to. Of course it is unlikely, especially given our challenge at the QB position. However, it has happened... I vividly remember, as a Cowboy fan in the 80s and '90s, how the Jimmy Johnson Cowboys earned their first playoff appearence (1991)... Aikman was injured during a week 11 win at Washington. Steve Beurline played the remaining 5 regular season games and led them to 5 victories... and to a round one playoff win. That was a Cowboy team who had not made the playoffs since 1985, I believe. There are enough similarities to offer me hope, at least.

This is what has to happen for the Texans now....

Piece of cake. :spin:

You fall down, go boom, climb back up and do it over again

Too many teams are 7-5 in the AFC. ESPN listed them all on their playoff picture late on that ESPN game last night. They didn't even show the Texans at 6-6 anymore. But with four games left we're still very much alive in the playoff race. I think if we win out and finish 10-6 we'll clinch the last wild-card spot in the AFC. Hopefully the Colts lose to the Browns, Texans and Cowboys the next three games. We can still win the AFC South. I doubt the Colts will lose to the pathetic Titans in the final game. The Titans already maled it in this season. That team is a joke.

Titans have the Giants, Jets, & Jags over the next three weeks. If they don't win all three, then I'll think they're mailing it in. After winning those three, they may very well be looking forward to playing spoiler in week 17.

We've tripled our win total from last season, so that's an improvement. I think we'll win another game or two, but playoffs? Nah

@ Jags - Much tougher than their record
@Colts - Pfft! Haven't won there yet and don't see it happening this year
Ravens - Winnable, but doubtful. Likely won't matter anyway
Jags - Who cares

That Baltimore game is going to be interesting. Wonder how Gary Kubiak is going to game plan against JJ Watt.

With his back turned and eyes closed?

Good one.

However, Kubiak's offense looked very good in the only Ravens game I've watched (Monday night game against the Saints). Having a good quarterback like Flacco makes a big difference.

They've gone from 25th on points/29th on yards to 6th/10th.

While losing their RB.

@ Jags - Much tougher than their record

They started the season 0-4 losing by an average of 38-14

Week #5 - played a good defensive game and lost a close one to Pittsburgh

Week #6 - lose a close game 16-14 to another equally bad team in Tennessee

Week #7 - play a good game and beat a Cleveland team that every now knows was smoke and mirrors

Then they go 0-4 again losing by an average of 29-14

Week #13 - win a close game 25-24 against another equally bad team in NYG

I am honestly trying to see anything in these numbers that say they play tougher than a 2-win team.

I was at the game against Dallas here in London. That was not a good team that they put on the field.

As far as the defense forcing 6 fumbles in their last two games, it needs to be noted that both Indy and NYG rank at the bottom of the NFL in fumbles lost. So that was just as much them as it was the Jags.

The Pitt/Cincy games will be critical to our chances. A sweep by either and we're good to go, a split will knock us out

We just need them to end at 9-7 or less

splitting The Pitt/Cincy but having pitt lose vs KC would be the same.

I don't think our chances are as remote as they were making them seem on the radio.

they were saying we HAVE TO win in Indy.... to me it seems like the single games could easily end up in a way we need them to. all of them, that's more difficult of course, but not impossible

We just have to finish 9-7 or better and have a couple things fall into place. We can't lose both the Indy and Ravens games.

While it is possible that 8 AFC teams end up 9-7, I find it very improbable.

1. Buffalo: @Broncos, @Packers, Raiders, @Patriots -- 8-8
2. Dolphins: Ravens, @Patriots, Vikings, Jets -- 9-7 or 10-6
3. Bengals: Steelers, @Browns, Broncos, @Steelers -- 8-7-1?
4. Steelers: @Bengals, @Falcons, Chiefs, Bengals -- No idea... 9-7
5. Browns: Colts, Bengals, @Panthers, @Ravens -- 8-8, maybe 9-7
6. Ravens: @Dolphins, Jaguars, @Texans, Browns -- 9-7, maybe 10-6
7. Chargers: Patriots, Broncos, @Niners, @Chiefs -- no idea, they could lose all of these and finish 8-8, or win 2 and go 10-6.

A lot of these teams that are competition for a wildcard spot may be in better positions right now, but there are a lot of tough games in their future.

Thats what I have been saying. If we win out, it is HIGHLY likely we get in at least as a 6th seed. Those other teams have very tough schedules and lucky for us, they play each other.

The perfect scenario is for the Bengals to win the division.

It is too bad the "HIGHLY likely we get in at least as a 6th seed" is cancelled out by the HIGHLY unlikely "if we win out".

While the Texans looked great this past weekend, the Ravens and Colts aren't the Titans. I think their playoff hopes, while still alive, are on life support.

If we can win one of those two (long shot I know), the odds are very very good that we will get in

Thankfully we have a legitimate MVP candidate in J.J. Watt who may come up with some big plays to win those two games against the Colts and Ravens. We can also beat the Jaguars twice. He nearly brought us back from down 24-0 to beat the Colts in Houston. Had we won that game our odds to win the AFC South would look a lot better right now. 10-6 is our goal right now. This is not the time to doubt it. We have to support the cause until the end.

No room for realism?

This is not the thread for pragmatism, man. :koolaid:

9-7 isn't going to be good enough. It's 10-6 or bust at this point. If we lose one more game I'll be discussing the draft (doing a three-round mock) and looking at who we may select in the first and second rounds, in particular. We'd be picking kind of low in each round. Compared to last year anyways. The perfect time to gamble on either a quarterback, secondary help or perhaps another wide receiver. If Ryan Fitzpatrick plays like he did last game in these final four games we'll probably make the playoffs. Ice that arm up and let it rip. Also the fact Arian Foster is back helps our offense look more complicated to defend.

One out of two is much less a long shot than sweeping them, so there's that.

=======================

Speaking of sweeping, I've already chalked up the two Jags games as wins. What was the Texans record against them last year when the Jags were almost universally acclaimed "the worst team in the league"? The Texans need to take care of business every week the remainder of this season. In years past they haven't always beaten the teams they were supposed to.
