Pendry is adamant that there was nothing different in Carr or the offense from the first half to the second.

The numbers tell another story.

In the first half, Carr completed 16 of 20 passes for 93 yards. The Texans had 190 total offensive yards in the half.

In the second half, Carr completed six of 13 passes and the Texans finished the half with 63 total yards on offense.

He was also sacked three times and threw one interception.

I think its a good time to let him take the responsibility .... Unless the coaches are afraid he may make them look like !d10t's :rolleyes:
 
This week, the plan is for Pendry to make the calls in passing situations. Carr's decision-making will be restricted to run situations.

Let's not give the game plan to the opponent or anything and certainly wouldn't want to follow up on a successful test, I mean geez the play-offs are hanging in the balance on this game. Brilliant!

OK, all the players aren't collectively so stupid about football that they don't know when something is different. Nice attempt to cover your butt Pendry--better keep it going by not letting it happen again--oops already covered above. Buh, bye Pendry.

I thought the same thing about that article as I was reading in this morning. It seemed to me, not only is Pendry trying to cover his butt, but also taking a shot at the players.
 
Carr said he has not pointed out to Pendry the 24-6 point differential in their halves.

"No. No chance," Carr said laughing. "Joe would punch me in the face. I'll stay away from that one."

What a "coach".

Actually Carr would just join Wand, Armstrong, and Murphy in that doghouse that I've been told here doesn't exist.

Hiring, keeping, promoting, and listening to Pendry is one of the worst if not THE worst decision this team has made.

In my opinion.

Pendry is a Capers man, so there is no doubt that this entire front office needs to go asap. We don't need Capers to stay as DC, or any variation of this staff.

The team, from the beginning of the season, just lacks direction. We've debated back and forth about the talent level, but the reality is that Capers & Co. would bring any group of players down with their lackluster gameplans and less than inspiring leadership.

Complete overhaul still required.
 
The truth is in the numbers. They need to just let the kid go these last two games and see what happens. Worst thing that could happen is they lose right? I think next year is going to be really interesting. If the next coaching crew let's Carr just do his thing and he starts blowing the place up then Dom and Co. are going to look REALLY bad. Not that they don't already, but it would put an exclamation point on how bad they really were.

Hate to say that I'm looking forward to next season already but what else have we got?
 
Maybe they let Carr call the plays and it backfired on them, then they "took control" the 2nd half to conserve a win. Plausible. Maybe they were thinking that David Carr didn't have the smarts (like some here have erroneously suggested) and that if they let him fall on his face the decision to not give him the bonus would be easier for upper management.
 
I think the problem with the second half of the Cards game was that we had the lead. And with Capers, leads are to be sat on like a 500 pound gorilla. It is his coaching philosophy, and the essence of the "play not to lose" mentality. Fortunately, Arizona is in much worse shape than us, and they were unable to capitalize on our extremely conservative playcalling in the 2nd half.

How was it backfiring? They put up how many points in the first half? Maybe I'm just misunderstanding your statement. Would seem to me that maybe they took over in the second half to try to make the coaching staff look better and it blew up in their faces. Maybe the team was playing their butts off for Carr in the 1st and when the coaches totally took over they lost their motivation.

Guess we'll see how it goes on Saturday. Can you imagine the crap they would get if they gave Carr total control the rest of the season and he just blews up the scoreboard? Won't happen but man, they'd get chased out of town.

If he did that he could possibly win this team over and maybe the other guys would play harder for him.

Well the coaches didn’t help much either. Most rookie QB usually has a good veteran quarterback as a mentor. Like Brady had Bledsoe, Brees had Flutie, Palmer had Kitna…:brickwall

I suppose you could call any run-down-the-clock offense a prevent offense. Taking a knee is certainly a prevent offense.

It prevents the other team from using the time-consuming parts of their playbook.
 
This is all just another "X" on the Capers and Co. coaching skill. Staying away from anything that seems to work.

(X) - Dont let Carr call plays...especially after scroing the most points in a quarter in Texans history.

(X) - Dont let Mathis go long for a pass...especially since the one time he did it he caught a TD pass for the longest play of the season.

(X) - Keep Armstrong on the sidelines...evertime the ball gets in his vicinity he catches it.

.....just add on to the list.
 
When Houston got a new franchise, yeah, that's what I wanted. Prevent D and Prevent O. :cool: If Carr doesn't start off calling ALL the plays tomorrow, then they better win big or I will be THAT MUCH MORE SURE that this coaching staff needs to take a hike. Most of the time when they find something that works, they immediately decide not to use it. It's still possible that Carr calling plays is not the answer, but he definitely deserves a chance to do it until it stops working.

It prevents them from scoring.

My take is very similar to Infantrycak's. Why are we telling the Jags what plays Carr will and will not be audibling out of? That makes no sense.

As far as Pendry's other statment, my Spidey senses are tingling. I would bet my two front teeth along with Cousin Eddy's one, that he is fibbin just a wee bit.
 
I just don't understand why they still treat Carr like a year one QB. You can't progress until you get some pressure put on you (not sack pressure, carry the game pressure). They need to let him go and see what happens.

I'm not a football analyzer, I watch the games and say what I think, ignorant opinion or not. What I see out there is not from Carr, it's from the coaches. Look at Eli Manning, year two and he is holding his own out there. You can talk about the Giants line all you want to but I think he gets more room to work from his coaches. Here we are, year four (this is year four right?) and they are playing the same games as in year one. Nothing has changed. It's time to **** or get off the pot.
 
Had the article in my hand at work, a very lax day, and didn't get to look at it. But from the headline, this Texans' fan wants Carr calling the plays. He should have been calling the plays since season 2. He would have developed as a leader and maybe things would be much different as far as the season. That being said, time to whoop the Jags.

In previous weeks they looked to be running the "Go-Ahead" offense ........ just "go-ahead" and punt it on 1st down and get it over with . :heh: :brickwall
 
Pendry is such a :homer: ! He's just a stick in the mud and will be gone with the rest of them. I'm sure the teams are lining up for him to be their offensive co-ordinator! :rofl:

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out which was more productive, Carr calling the plays, or Pendry's conservatism!

If they let Carr call the plays again, don't expect they will give him much to work with. It will look a lot like last weeks game plan and the Jags will be jumping the the routs. They are NOT going to give him ANYTHING in way of a game plan/practiced plays that will again make them look like the duffuses they really are.
 
If you are Dan Reeves, and you see the stats...and the players' reactions...and the fans' reactions to the difference between Carr calling plays and Pendry/Capers calling plays, I think you get the idea that Dan's smart enough to see that Carr is worth keeping around the next 1-2 years.

Pendry's comments are his ultimate undoing. There's no way Pendry can put a positive spin on what he (Pendry) said in reaction to the difference in play call.

You just get the drift that Carr knows it's his show next year, and this looks more and more like McNair has assured Carr that the worst is behind this franchise in terms of Mickey Mouse strategy and playcalling.

I mean, for Pendry to openly say that Carr will be calling run plays, etc., etc., if that's not some sick ploy to deceive the enemy (Jax)...then I am just baffled. I honestly hope it was just a ploy to deceive. If not....then my goodness I am ashamed FOR Pendry. :twocents:
