Today's video is from the Eagles Vs. Texans game. Recent posters have suggested Andre Johnson is done, washed up. This video demonstrates the effect Dre still have on opposing defenses and how they play him. If he was as his detractors say, I am pretty sure DC's would not be rolling coverage his way, or bracketed coverage. This is one play, but the same scheme is used throughout the game.

See Video Here

a 'wow' play for me against the eagles was seeing them move a linebacker to the LOS on top of andre. the linebacker's job was to tie up AJ, with the corner dropping into a read cushion. i cant place the safety off the top of my head, but no fewer than 2 defenders were assigned 'andre duty'.

I will be producing that video also. If you watch the coach's film you see them scheming against Dre alot. Which is why DeAndre was so wide open. More film to come.

I commented to axman during the game about how that play worked because they were more concerned about AJ.

To the AJ thread, I don't think AJ took "you're going to be a big part of the game plan" as "you'll be pulling coverage away from other receivers."

Exactly! Which is probably why his attitude is sh!tty. While being a decoy is part of the game, they seem to be doing it too much instead of working him into the game plan as an actual receiver. He does seem to drop a lot more balls than usual, but perhaps that's because he is not getting enough balls thrown his way.

Here's my analysis of the Texans playbook:

0) Paint the TE's with invisible ink
1) Foster left
2) Foster right
3) Foster up the middle

result:

4) Score or punt.

and occasionally:

5) JJ Watt freak play for a score

I think it'd be a different attitude if we were winning. We're not and he's pissed and rightfully so, imo

Interesting stats: AJ is having his lowest targeted % caught since 2005 yet he has no dropped passes attributed to him this season. This gives weight to Fitz' accuracy and decision making. Or lack thereof.

Ever see Brady make that throw to Welker?

Now if we could start running rubs for the SlotWR... maybe with a taller QB?

If I may ask, why is the video private?

I subscribed but if videos are private I can't see when you upload a new one

I will find them, but I remember watching the games and seeing probably 3 that he dropped. Maybe they do not consider them drops if they hit him in the hands but he does not haul them in. I am not sure how they rate them. I will find the plays when I have some time and put them up.

I was expecting to see this play a lot, but I do not recall seeing it yet. Pats run the rub routes a ton, as do the Broncos. Especially in the Red Zone. You think it has something to do with the height of the QB? Our slot guy seems like he would thrives with a big body like Dre creating a little rub to spring him over the middle.

They are not private, they are unlisted. I think I am just trying to avoid getting them blocked by the NFL. They got one minutes after it was put up just based on the video title or description. So I have to be care so they do not get copyright notices. Even though legally I am entitled to use them under "Fair Use" since they are being used for education purposes.

I am not tagging them so other can view. They are specifically for us. I can try to make them public, but I fear they will get blocked for copyright.

Edit: The videos have been made public. Keep your fingers crossed they do not get yanked.

I'd keep them private. No need to tempt fate, no upside imo.

Crossers in the middle of the field. Fitz hits Hopkins wide open. #Texans https://t.co/oE3vOrFjdH

Nuk's TD was a rub concept, too.

I'm not in the AJ is washed up camp because of skills, but my question is: how does this play illustrate AJ being a "planned" decoy? The play is called and they don't see the defensive alignment until they get to the LOS. To me it looks like the Eagles are most concerned with keeping any play in front of the 1st down marker while hoping to make a play that prevents a conversion on 3rd and long. If that safety takes the slot receiver right away that would leave only DeMeco to protect the middle against a square in or comeback for both AJ and Nuk (possible options). Our QB hits the receiver in the flat (game manager). A QB commanding his offense would probably step up, pump fake to the receiver in the flat and hit another target streaking down the field (possible option). Within all my assumptions, the QB and receivers have to be on the same page while reading the defense. OB just gives them a play that he thinks will be successful based on situation. FWIW, I'm not making this about Fitz.

The defense makes that decision, and ideally the QB reads the coverage and reacts. I say ideally because you see too many times Fitz predetermine where he's going with the ball... makes an educated guess based on playcall and defensive alignment... instead of reading and reacting.

Now there certainly is room for predetermining where you're going with the ball, say if you get "that" LB matched up over your speedy SlotWR you know you want to take that. Or maybe AJ one-on-one with no help.

But as far as AJ, defenses are choosing to take him away from us lately or pressure is too quickly in Fitz's face or by the time AJ gets open he's outside of Fitz's effective arm strength.

Good lawd, I see the pressure but who was that wide open at the top?

Have to go back and look but pretty sure that's Damaris.

Nuk's TD was a rub concept, too.

I am talking about when both WR's on on the same side of the formation. Not crossing routes where a natural rub occurs. Kind of like with the play where Hopkins and Martin collide. One was supposed to go over the top and the other below. The Pats and Broncos run it all the time in the red zone.

Because the coaches watch the films on how Dre is defended. They know what teams are going to do, or what they have done in the past based on certain action. So they give a look to the defense knowing they will behave in a certain way which decoys them from the actual route. Dre was not looking for the ball, Damaris was.

This was meant to go to the slot receiver to beat the blitz. It was the perfect call IMO. The point is that if DC's think Dre is slow and washed up like some here are saying (not you), they would not have bracketed Dre like that, and the safety would have driven to the slot WR at the snap. Instead he hung back until the ball was thrown.

Good lawd, I see the pressure but who was that wide open at the top?

That's exactly why he needs to be benched.... why he shouldn't have been playing in that game.

But I bet that was Dre that they were looking at. Totally ignored dude on the outside, because they didn't want Dre catching that ball.
