Texans need....... Offensive Playmaker

Anywone else gets Lance ZierLein's From the sideline Newsletter?? It's pretty cool, and good reading...

Here is an excerpt from his latest.

Houston Texans

Draft Pick Rich/Poor:
The Texans are loaded in this draft with five picks inside the top 100 and the first pick of the fourth round. They did, however, trade their fifth round pick to the Bills for Moulds. With these picks, the Texans should be able to address their needs but they also have the leeway to move up or down. Look for the Texans to trade down with one of their third round picks and pick up an extra fourth round pick since this draft is so deep in the middle rounds.
1. Playmaker (10) - Whether it is Reggie Bush or Mario Williams, the Texans have to find a guy on either side of the ball who can make big plays.
2. Offensive Tackle (9) - The Texans were a disaster at both tackle spots until they got Wade and Riley out of there. Texans have to find someone who can become a starter at tackle.
3. Pass Rusher (9) - If Mario Williams isn't taken with the first pick, the Texans have to find pass rush help within the first four rounds. Terrible pass rush continues to be major problem.
4. Cornerback (9) - Faggins just isn't good enough to be a starter in the NFL and Buchanon is a disaster. Help is abundant at CB this year and there will be one taken by the third round.

he says we need a playmaker more than anything else......

Now, IMHO, most of these guys are saying this, to make their analysys fit what they think the Texans are going to do, because the don't want to look silly.

My question to you, is do you still feel the same way?? do we need an offensive playmaker as much as we need anything else in the draft??

I think since we've filled our wholes, more or less, that we can afford to draft the BPA, regardless of need....... & that's the way I'll justify a Bush pick, or a Mario, or a D'Brick, or even a Vince Young.

But offensive playmakers....

-- DD (say what you want...... but getting caught from behind after a 30 yard gain is still pretty exciting to me).

on a smaller scale.....
--Mathis(his speed alone will stretch the field)
--Putz(his size, and hands should occupy defenders in the middle... safeties especially)

Deffensive Playmakers...
--Dunta Robinson
--PBuchanon(in a perfect world)
--Peak(lacking consistency)
--Babin(again, in a perfect world)

I think we need LINEMAN defensive and offensive. In my perfect world are first two picks go M. Williams and E. Winston.

Yes I'd like to see a CB taken in this draft. Maybe a sleeper pick like the kid from Abilene Christian. I think PBuc could bounce back and play wonderful but too just put raw hope on that is foolish. Also to have 3 good corners now is mandatory.

If not taking a CB in the first 3 rounds please OHHHH BABY BABY PLEASE take a Safety.

At #1 you better be picking a playmaker either way. It's too high of a pick to address purely need, but you don't draft where there is no room. (like QB) I could go either way with Bush or Williams, preferably a trade toget Williams. with some solid blockers later in the draft, I think Bush makes the offense to explosive to pass on, not to mention the team fun to watch. I want some solid defenders drafted after him with some OL help and then next year hopefully upgrade the D more in free agency and the draft. With bush and Winston/Scott/Colledge and maybe a later round Eslinger, I believe you have your offense set for a couple of years. Let the Offense gel with the new players and coaching staff. Sure I'd love to win the super bowl next year, but get real.
I believe Carr will thrive with solid protection and multiple weapons. If all else fails, how hard is it to dump the ball in the flat to Bush or the FB on the opposite side of the field. We have so many options and potential players demanding attention that someone has to be open. In the following years improve the defense and maintain the offense.

The organization is totally convinced that Carr can get it done. If you assume that and you take Reggie Bush, there is no need for another QB, RB, WR, or TE. We already have plenty of players that can fill out those positions and on paper is an explosive offense if you believe Carr can bring the goods.

After Reggie they should focus on the offensive line and anything on the defensive side of the ball. If you don't count the Dunta Robinson pick several years ago, we are horrible in drafting on the defensive side of the ball.

This organization has either neglected or drafted poorly with several positions and they need to make up for that in this year's draft or it will won't make sense keeping the current core group of guys for another 3 year building process.

Isn't this the approach the Colts took?

I mean seriously people forget that a DEFENSE needs to gel as well and usually takes longer than an Offense.

Our offense at worse right now as QB- Carr, RB- Davis, WR- Johnson and Moulds, TE- Zulitzer(Sp), and we could improve the line. Bush would be nice but not necessary.

Our d-line.....Weaver, T. Johnson....Umm???? No playmaker.

Solidify your TRENCHES. Williams & Winston should be our first two picks or Williams and D'qwell Jackson.

I keep thinking the offense would still be too slow if they decided to stand pat. Moulds, Putzier and Walters look like excellent downfield blockers. Reggie Bush is the remaining piece. They should field a potent offense with the addition of RB.
