Texans interested in Trading FOR Kaepernick

That's a move that reeks of desperation. They never planned on losing Brock.
They're desperate, no doubt about it! But, according to the Manning fans and the NFL Network, the Broncos were "unwilling" to give Brock "that kind of money." It's not that they couldn't afford it, it's that they were "unwilling" and we were "dumb enough" to give an $18M/yr contract to someone who isn't even good enough. Even though they offered him $16.5M/yr to stay.

Brock never gave the Broncos much of a chance to negotiate. He clearly wanted out of there, and of all the teams that are "a QB away", the Texans were the most appealing with regards to money and talent on both sides of the ball.

I'm just glad it's not the Texans working negotiations for Kap right now.

I seriously doubt that, there were reports saying that the Broncos countered our initial offer (whatever that was) by offering him $16.5M/yr which also happened to be their final offer. It was no secret that Elway was in cap hell, which he brought upon himself, and we were able to capitalize on his mistakes and snatch Oz. I agree that he obviously wanted out of Denver, I mean, who wouldn't after being treated the way he was at the end, being benched, and pushed to the side until the diva made up his mind.

I bet they never thought he'd actually get up and leave because they're the "defending SB Champs." But the truth is, that team is no more and probably far from getting back there again. He did what anyone with any common sense would have done.

In a league where very little money is guaranteed and injuries are a snap away, good for Kaep. Secure your future.
Kaep likes that money, baby!

He's a smart man. Also if he went to the Broncos that would be a lot of pressure. Taking over the defending Super Bowl champions. When he knows they lost a lot of talent on defense this off-season (free agency hit the Broncos hard).

The Broncos have been stingy trying to re-sign their best player, Super Bowl MVP Von Miller, as well. They franchise tagged him after failing to lock him up long term the past two off-seasons. They lost Brock Osweiler as well who many considered a big part of their future.

If I were Kaepernick, who has already led a team to a pair of NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl, I wouldn't be overly thrilled with the Broncos' situation anyways. It's not like this guy hasn't experienced winning at the highest level. He was a game-winning drive away from potentially winning two Super Bowls in a row.

I'd want my money first and foremost. Guaranteed money in the NFL is your friend as a player. Teams can release you any time. It's in Kaep's best interest to do what he's doing right now. Even if it means staying in a bad situation in San Francisco. That's money he'll make no matter what. Even if he has a freak injury tomorrow and can never play again.

I've never seen a Super Bowl champion, even during the strict salary cap era, have so many limitations as the Broncos have shown this off-season. They won't even pony up a long-term deal for their best player. If I'm Von Miller I'm seriously thinking about leaving Denver in the next off-season or two. Especially when they stop winning Super Bowls, which as of right now, I think they've fallen from the best team in the NFL to third, fourth or even fifth best in the AFC. Being franchise tagged has to suck for him (money wise it's great) but you want a long-term deal.

Whether they won the Super Bowl or not, they would have been in the same situation. They probably didn't think he would leave Denver because that usually don't happen.

Elway also has that, "My sht don't stink" air about him.

After Manning retired he had $19M to work with. He went to $16.5M & supposedly Osweiler didn't give him a chance to match our $18M... but that may have been spin we generated to help Elway save face. He probably understood we didn't have a $19M ceiling.

I believe the Broncos can tag him one more time. By the time 2018 rolls around, they'll probably have cap room, but Von won't be the same player.

Kinda strange that he wouldn't want to get out of SF and be a starter in the league. SF isnt going to do much this season.i guess if money is what he will settle for, then he will enjoy being the highest paid clipboard holder
It will be interesting if they draft a qb .

Or he might be getting paid to extend his career another year.

I'm not sure what you are doubting since most of your post agrees with my points. :um:

If the doubt is that Brock did not give the Broncos much of a chance to negotiate, that's not even debatable. His agent stopped returning calls and Brock signed with the Texans within the first 24 hours of free agency. Any Broncos counter offer was too little, too late. I'd say that's not much of a chance to negotiate when other players take days and even weeks waiting for the best offers to materialize.

I believe the Broncos can tag him one more time. By the time 2018 rolls around, they'll probably have cap room, but Von won't be the same player.

Actually, per the CBA, there is no limit on the number of consecutive times a team can tag a player. The first time, the player would receive 120% of the previous year's salary, or average of the top 5 salaries of everyone else playing that position, whichever is higher. The second time, the same rules would apply based on the first tag salary. But from the third tag on, the calculated percentage would be based on 144%, not 120%. You can see how this progression would become an outlandish and unrealistic burden on the tagging team.

It was mentioned at the time of the signing, but one potential downside to RGIII going to Cleveland would be Josh McCown going on the trade market, and under-cutting any value Hoyer might have.

The Broncos won't be signing Johnny Manziel, but they will consider Josh McCown if they don't trade for Colin Kaepernick, league sources told Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Although ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday that Broncos coach Gary Kubiak talked to Manziel after the Browns released him about being a potential fit in Denver, the club has no plans to sign him, sources told cleveland.com.

Mike Klis of 9NEWS in Denver also reported Thursday that the defending Super Bowl champs will not sign Manziel.

They will, however, consider trading for McCown or signing him in the event he's released if they don't land Kaepernick, sources said. McCown is expendable in Cleveland now that the Browns have Robert Griffin and are set to draft a quarterback.
