Texans in the NFC West

I was thinking the other day (and that really hurt) that the Texans should have joined the NFC West when the leagues were re-aligned.

The Seahawks should have stayed in the AFC West and the Chiefs would have moved to the AFC South....

We could have had a winning record by now.......

From a competition stand point it would have been nice. But they would have never moved the Chiefs away from their long standing rivalries w/ the broncos, raiders, and chargers.

I still don't understand how Indiana is considered "South". South of what? Michigan?
And how is Dallas in the East. The Saints are more east than the cowboys...

Established rivalries took precendent over location. Chiefs-Broncos, Chiefs-Raiders has too much history to eliminate. Cowboys-Redskins, Cowboys-Eagles, too much history to eliminate.

The AFC South is the division of late comers and non-loyal teams. Indy and Tennessee both screwed their former cities by moving and therefore had no established histories to speak of. Jacksonville and Houston are newcomers to the league.

I always thought Tenn would've gone to the AFC North just because of their history with Pitts, Clev, and Cincy. Instead we got them.

But that probably had more to do with them being the former Houston team.

Not a bad division, though.
