Texans hope to trade Glenn for 3rd Rounder??

This is the dumbest rumor yet. I don't think that this is the case, but a friend told me this.

Maybe a 1st and a 3rd. Think the Redskins would give up their 9th pick for him? They like the older players over there...

LP mentioned a possible Glenn trade to the NYJ. I really don't think it will happen, but stranger things have happened...this offseason.

• When unrestricted free agent and four-year veteran Andre Dyson opted on Thursday to take a five-year, $17.5 million contract from the Seattle Seahawks, it meant the Jets likely lost their best viable option, outside of the draft, for upgrading at cornerback. And since New York officials believe in their hearts that starting cornerback Donnie Abraham is not coming back for '05 -- the savvy nine-year veteran has stayed away from all the offseason workouts to this point as he deliberates his future -- there could be a crisis of sorts at the key position.

The list of still-available veterans is not a promising one: Ty Law, Artrell Hawkins, Chad Scott, Dewayne Washington, Aaron Beasley, Dainon Sidney.

But here's one golden oldie, a guy whom New York brass is eminently familiar, that Jets officials might want to at least think about: Aaron Glenn. Yep, the same Aaron Glenn who played the first eights seasons of his 11-year NFL career with the Jets before moving to Houston in the 2002 expansion draft to help stock the Texans roster. The acquisition of cornerback Phillip Buchanon this week, in a trade with Oakland, did not automatically make Glenn expendable. In fact, Texans general manager Charley Casserly and coach Dom Capers both went out of their way to note that Glenn remains in their plans. They cited the need, with Indianapolis in the division, for having three top-shelf cornerbacks on the roster. But the addition of Buchanon, and the presence of second-year veteran Dunta Robinson, the 2004 first-rounder who was arguably the best defensive rookie in the league last season, gives the Texans a pair of young corners.

DeMarcus Faggins emerged last year as a very good "nickel" cornerback, so much so that Houston signed him to a new contract. The bet here is that Glenn could be gotten from the Texans for a pretty modest price. Sure, he's going to be 33 in mid-July, just before training camp begins. And, yes, he still has some of the most dubious hands of any corner in the NFL, and drops as many interceptions as he makes. But Glenn, who almost certainly would have to restructure his contract for the Jets, still had five pickoffs in 2004. He's had four or more interceptions in five of the past seven campaigns. Look at the other veteran corners still in the unemployment line, and suddenly, for the Jets, Glenn might not look like such a bad option.

ESPN

TEXANS WANT TO MOVE GLENN
With cornerback Philip Buchanon recently acquired from the Raiders, the Houston Texans now hope, we're told, to trade holdover Aaron Glenn.
The Texans sent a second-round and third-round pick to the Raiders for Buchanon, a former first-rounder who badly wanted out of Oakland.
Glenn could enable the Texans to recapture the third-rounder that was dealt to Oakland. Last month, the Pats acquired cornerback Duane Starks from the Cardinals for a three.

I'm gonna have to call BS on that one...or at least anything that comes from profootballtalk.com

Offer Glenn to the Skins for their 25th pick... :hmmm: I have been thinking about it, we signed a nickelback when we signed Lewis from the Browns, add that to the nickelback we already had in Faggins, now we have DRob, Glenn, and Buchanon...So we have 3 CB's that are starting CB's in the NFL and 2 solid nickelbacks, why are we loading up at the CB spot....

Do these guys watch any football or do they just think everyone else is a dumb-a

I think LP's article is more a product of the NY bias that tends to always surround the draft. The NYJ could pick up Rolle or Jones in the draft, and the NYJ fans would still probably boo the pick. It really wouldn't make any sense for the Jets to trade for Glenn since he'd be nothing more than a stop gap player who'd play a season or maybe two at most then be gone. After he left they'd still be left with a hole at CB.

I'm gonna go ahead and call BS on this...If it were reported by a half-way credible source, I may actually think about the repercussions of trading him...

Even if we don't trade him, this is probably his last season with the Texans, or am I thinking crazy again...

If Buchanon plays well, I think it's very possible that it could be, and I'd hate to see him go, but if PB proves he's worthy of a starting position here, then so be it...

Honestly, I look at this year as the year Capers better make something happen..otherwise his job will be in jeopardy.
Trading Glenn would be a suicide...especially with someone like Buchanon coming in, where Glenn could tutor him.

This deal won't happen...at least if Capers wants to keep his job for another season.

yea theres no way we should play glenn, has he lost a step yea sure any player will with aage but hes still alot better than buchanon is RIGHT NOW and can teach him and glenn IMO is still one of the top corners in the leauge. i also think glenn is one of the more mature defensive players i have and we need a leader on the field ur right texans84 it would be suicide

profootballtalk is about as shady a source as you can get.

Looks like the only real info we have is the conjecture from ESPN.. which states plainly that the Texans have made no indication they want to deal Glenn, and have in fact said that having 3 quality corners is what they need in our division.

Most dubious hands in the NFL huh? I've never seen him drop an int, and he also returned punts in college. Pbelly talking nonsense again.
:listening

I'll be very upset if they trade Glenn for a measley third rounder. He still has game and Pbuch can play the nickle as he learns the defense. Next year might be a different story.

The only negative thing I can say about Glenn is that every once in awhile he tries to make a play on the ball and ends up missing the INT and losing the WR...

PastaMan probably just doesn't like the Texans. First, he calls Carr a bust in his wholly unoriginal Tedford article, and now he state that Glenn has bad hands. Does Pastaman watch any film, or does he just pore over stats. Sure Carr's three year stats are overly impressive, but it is in line with other tops 3 QB picks excepts Manning who sets the standard for everyone. I going to address this next question to Vinny, since he catches most of the Texans games. Has Glenn's game declined over the past years; does he have terrible hands as Pastabelly alluded to; also, can he still be a viable starter for us next year??? Thanks for your input. If I'm lucky, I only see one to two Texans games a year.

I'll chime in even though my name isn't Vinny. IMO, the perception Glenn slowed down last year was vastly overstated and was much more a result of the new rule emphasis which affected all the CB's across the league, but Texans fans naturally notice Glenn more than other CB's (see Champ last year) and some attribute it to age. Pastabelly is an ***** about Glenn's hands IMO. The only time I have seen Glenn display "poor" hands was on a day he was an almost dominant CB--last year's Bears game. Glenn got his hands on 4 balls and INT'd 1. Keep in mind it was 12 degrees without the wind chill. IMO at Reliant he had 4 picks and still defensed the passes. IMO, he is not just viable he is very good--not elite, but one step down.

I think that is a very fair assesment of him although I'm not Vinny either.

good post i agree with everything u just said and u have to also acknowledge that he also had a groin injury that slowed him down a bit.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully we can him for at least another season. Don't want him to become the 2005 Lawyer Milloy.

Infantry's response was good. Glenn gets to some balls and gets his hands on passes that many guys never get a shot on. He likes to jump routes and still has great reaction time. He makes good decisions and understands the game. I find the bad hands rap a strange one.

yea i dont find it strange....glenn has great hands, but sports writers that dont watch every game and really study the player will see one bad game in this case the bears were he was droppin all the punts and kickoffs....which i think is a load of **** cause like infantry said he had 4 passes def. and 1 int so its just some writer not sure on wat hes writing to have a story.

Since this is a LP article I couldn't resist.

-- Jets Could Target Glenn --
Fri Apr 22, 2005 --from FFMastermind.com

ESPN's Len Pasquarelli reports with a pressing need at corner, CB Aaron Glenn could be re-acquired from the Houston Texans by the New York Jets for a pretty modest price. Sure, he's going to be 33 in mid-July, just before training camp begins. And, yes, he still has some of the most dubious hands of any corner in the NFL, and drops as many interceptions as he makes. ESPN.com is a reliable source, but I still hope that the Texans don't get rid of Glenn because I think he could easily still start if he does stay. Not sure if this was already posted, sorry if it was.

Were those 2 seperated at birth that's great. good post.

I always wondered why LP doesn't get any air time on ESPN. ESPN discriminates against commentators who look like. Like Mort and Clayton, he is privy to lots of inside info, yet we never see him on sportscenter. Only once in a while on EsPNews. What's up with that??

NO WAY we trade glenn, we need all the CBs we can get to compete in the AFC South, plus Glenn is still a top 15 CB in the league.

Vinny! You thought I was negative before, wait till you hear this. If you trade AG who represents what's good about the Texans and probably the defensive leader, you can kiss all of the goodwill and respect of players goodbye. I hope this is just another one of those wild rumors, but when Capers talked about AG's meeting with him to me there was something missing. May be there is something to this rumor. No O-line change and trading AG smells like a coaching staff in a tail spin. Capers was fairly emphatic about having done a through study of Buchannon. Is Casserly too trusting of Capers? Capers has blinders with respect to any other part of the game, except for Defense. Again, that's his comfort level and to the hxxx with everything else. AG met DROB with open arms. Perhaps they consulted with AG with respect to the draft. If you listen closely, its apparent they did not let AG know about this trade until after the fact. May be AG knew some things and would have liked to have had some input as the Defensive Team Leader and a devoted Texan. May be it looked to him like he was being pushed out. May be Sharper was right?

When you listen to Buchannon he sounds like an alright guy. Even mentions the Lord in his press conference. Says he wants to work with Glenn and respects him. Then you read about some of his antics with Oakland you begin scratching your head, because it doesn't sound like the Buchannon you just saw and heard in an interview. Did Buchannon do some of the things he did because of peer pressure? In other words did he do things to look like one of the guys (Oakland)? I would expect they are kind of a strange group to get along with.

I hope all of this is a miscommunication and that its basically untrue. The Texan's really don't need this kind of nonsense. AG means too much to this ball club. I would like to see AG retire a Texan. He has been good for the community, good for the Texans, and good for the Fans. I would love to see an immediate response by the Texans squashing this rumor, particularly, since some of it seems to be coming from a National News Organization like ESPN. In fact I would almost call it tampering.

This may be the first, and possibly last, time I agree with the Rabi...Glenn is the personification of what the Texans stand for...He is good in the community--just this past month, he donated $15,000 to the Aldine ISD scholarship fund (it may not be a lot for him, but every little bit counts...The fact that I am a past recipient of a scholarship from Aldine ISD has nothing to do with my bias, though :)), he is a leader on the field, a team player, and a guy that will never be found in any negative headlines...The day we cast him aside is the day that we take a step in the direction of the Crackboys...

Agreed. If we send AG packing, we lose all credability we have. I would love to see him retire a Texan. He is a great guy. If he gets traded/cut CC should get pimp slaped :slap: . I think we need AG more than ever. We need him to give PB a good role model, and we need him to keep teaching DROB.
