Wow, they are pretty sore he left Penn State.
He looks like a fatter version of Matt Schaub with a crater chin.
The nittany lion is butthurted, needs some salve.

O'Brien literally will battle for his players. He almost came to blows with Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald on the field during a game in 2012 when they disagreed over an officiating decision. Both Irish Catholics - O'Brien from Boston, Fitzgerald from Chicago - neither would back down until separated.
Later that season, according to John Bacon's book "Fourth and Long," one of the Nittany Lions' leaders, an upperclassman who become an early O'Brien convert and chased rival recruiters off campus, suffered a severe knee injury. O'Brien visited him after the game, the coach shaking so badly he couldn't hold the player's hand. O'Brien left the room in tears.
McNair may or may not have hired a good head football coach. He hired a good man.
Dude spent some serious money to do this. Props to Mcnair and also props to Rick Smith who obviously had some say so in this. I can no longer call him cheap. I just hope that O'Brien causes them to be more active in trades and free agency when good opportunities come along.
They were talking on the radio that the Penn people were saying that O'Brien was always an outsider and now they need to bring in someone from the inside to preserve the tradition.
Screw that place. They should have burned the facilities to the ground, but instead those inbred morons circle the wagons and talk about pride and tradition.
I like that O'Brien never fit in and told the Paterno cult to go screw itself. He is his own man and is not kissing ass for a job. I respect those qualities.
Pretty much every championship winning coach has an aura about them that makes the outsider think he's a dick or a-hole. Lombardi, Parcells, Belichick, (among others), all considered hardasses. Two that were aloof - Walsh and Landry - were still stand-offish and could stare a hole through players.
Many of them have quick tempers and do not tolerate bull****.
After watching the Lombardi documentary on "A Football Life" the past couple of weeks, his son nailed it when he said Vince had a quick temper and perfectionist attitude. Two great things for a coach but lousy for a father.
Would rather have had Zimmer, but O'Brien seems like a safe hire.
Hopefully he can bring Houston and the fans back to their winning ways!
2 out of 11 is not really winning ways, if anything i think what happened this season was more of what pro sports houston fans are used to....just saying !
you better check your facts, sir. We've had 3 winning seasons.![]()
O'Brian looks like a detective on a TV show.
I'm not that worried about what Penn State people are like right now. The way I see it that's a seriously confused bunch of folks up there and I even sort of understand why. The runaway cult of JoePa is the fault of the school and the people who got fired and charged with crimes were the ones who should have been fired and charged with crimes. The average lifelong Penn State fan who's still clinging to legend I feel mostly sorry for (but really want no part of).
They've got a warped sense of perspective because they were fed the fairy tale for so long and bought into it. Think about that guys longevity for a moment. 44 years the head coach and figurehead of that school is amazing. 409 wins (before many were vacated) and a pair of national championships. If you wanted to sell the fans of a college football team a fairy tale you would have a hard time doing better than that.
Then in a relatively short time they find out that what they could see and what they'd been told was in stark contrast to what the man had failed to do when the time came to "walk the walk".
I think those long time Penn State fans are going to be screwed up about the Joe Paterno myth for a long, long time. They're very similar to Alabama fans and their attachment to Bear Bryant but the scandal seems to have twisted their attachment to JoePa all out of perspective.
Getting back to the topic O'Brien is fortunate to be getting out of there and I think he knows it. Coaches who followed Bear Bryant at Alabama walked into a losing situation for decades. Coaches who follow Paterno are in the same boat but the boat is full of crazy people without life jackets.
Just welcomed Bill O'Brien to Houston. Nice #Texans tie. Firm handshake. What else would you expect?
Feels more like a rally than a presser. Packed. Who are these people?
Texans presented new HC Bill O'Brien to VIPs at a breakfast. They brought out the Texans pep band to greet everybody.
Interesting that all 3 coaches in #Texans history have started their tenure with the No. 1 overall pick
Bill O'Brien telling #Texans sponsors he's proud to be in a football city and a football state. Nice ovation.
Cushing on O'Brien: "I'm excited 2 find out what scheme we're going to play. He's got talent to work with. This isn't a rebuilding project."
Brian Cushing on Bill O'Brien "He's had a lot of success at New England and Penn State and I'm fired up to play for him."
Duane Brown on Bill O'Brien: "I heard he's a great coach.I heard he's hard-nosed, very loud & direct. I'm looking forward to working w/ him"
Duane Brown "Since I've been here I've known only one system, but change can be good."
Duane Brown on Bill O'Brien "I'm excited to work with him. I'm glad the process is over. I'm ready to get acclimated to his system."
Bob McNair: "I'm ready to kick 2013 out the door. I've had enough of 2013. It's with great pleasure to have 2014 arrive on the scene."
crap ur right, the 9-7 season we missed the play-offs. good call ok so 3 out of 11, pretty sure even with the 3 we are more used to losing or average.
The WCO and the ZBS are out and the Earhardt-Perkins and the Power Run offense is in.
The 3-4 Defense could be out and the 4-3 could be in: http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools...pdf/2012-13/depth_chart_non_event/FB_6-14.pdf
Those folks can't see the forest from the trees . They let a pedophile run free because it was more important to keep up an image . I would have cloroxed that whole place twice then burnt it down .
It's actually 3 out of 12 seasons.
Right on. I'm really digging the dynamic nature of O'Brien. No more of the protect-a-lead / play not to lose mentality. I think this cat is all about ruthless winning and never giving the other team a chance to catch their breath.
The name "Penn State" will always be tarnished in my mind. The only way that I could ever imagine not being tarnished is if the fanbase decided to purge themselves of everything pedo-demon by banishing football for a decade and demolishing then building new facilities. Instead, they cherish tradition that served to provide a protection mechanism for one of these most heinous crimes around. They want to be proud of an old bastard because he valued winning and protecting a brand over doing the right thing. That's their tradition now.
I am loving BO'B during this press conference. He is a very good communicator and gets his point across clearly. I have never been this excited as a Texans fan. He is making me ready to go out and put the pads on. The players are going to love playing for this guy.
Jayson Braddock ‏@JaysonBraddockO'Brien: Can't wait to get going and put together a winning team, which we will have, for the city of Houston.
Dale Robertson ‏@sportywineguyRick Smith on personnel decisions " We're going to work hand and hand, I have no problem listening to this guy as he's very smart". #Texans
Greg Bailey ‏@GregBailey13O'Brien: We'll put together a staff of great teachers and demanding coaches who hold players accountable and are good family men.
Houston Texans ‏@HoustonTexansO'Brien: I want to hire coaches who make players accountable and who know its important they get family time too. #Texans
O'Brien will sit down with every member of the coaching staff tomorrow. "We'll go from there." #Texans
"Right after this I'm going out and buying my first pair of cowboy boots." -O'Brien .."That was a requirement." -McNair #Texans
seriously, what's the point of having Cal McNair in any press conference?
seriously, what's the point of having Cal McNair in any press conference?
Not much actual football talk, just "let all be lovie dovie and build a good football team"
He's the future owner/CEO/HNIC of the Houston Texans.
so our future is in the hands of a mute?

I actually feel confident we can win a Super Bowl or two with Bill O'Brien as head coach. I remember watching Gary Kubiak's press conference back in 2006 and I wasn't as optimistic. I feel extremely excited for the first time in a long time about the Houston Texans. I wish week 1 of the 2014 season started this Sunday. The hard part now is waiting...blah blah blah blah
I do like the new guy though. He seems like the type that could lead the team. But the substance of this conference is ZERO
