Texans high marks on 2006 draft from Philly newspaper

Grading the Overall Class of 2006
Top Five
Houston Texans 7 picks, 27 points

Green Bay Packers 12 picks, 25 points

Baltimore Ravens 12 picks, 25 points

New York Jets 10 picks, 24 points

Indianapolis Colts 7 picks, 21 points

Note: All 919 players drafted in rounds four through seven since the 2002 season were given a point total for their production with the team that selected them. They were not given points for what they did with other teams. Players received four points for each season they made the Pro Bowl, three points for each season they started all 16 games, two points for each season they started at least half their team's games, and one point for playing in at least half their team's games. Only 18 of the 919 players taken on the second day of the draft in the last six years have reached the Pro Bowl.

Its bittersweet reading those rankings...

I'm happy our first draft with the new regime netted us players like Mario/DeMeco/Winston/Daniels who will be cornerstones to our team for a long time barring injury. But at the same time I am quite saddened that the 06 draft has already become our most productive draft class to date and they've only played 2 NFL seasons :(

A slightly different way of looking at it would be on a points per pick:

Houston 3.86
Indy 3.00
NYJ 2.4
GB & Balt 2.08

It would be interesting to see how they assigned points.

Stop looking that far in the past. Remember that was new franchise material. Now we have real professionals doing great things. Start looking to the future.

Considering the Texans had the top pick in each round (and the top 2 in the 3rd), they should have come away with the best draft. Nevertheless, an outstanding job by Kubiak, his assistants, and the scouts.
