Texans General Draft discussion

Didn't Banks play hurt some of last year? Curious what games you watched.

You can actually see the lack of punch and extension from his Youtube highlight tape, even through he wins the block. Letting an NFL guy get his hands on you first will lead to bad things. Watching him against Georgia is probably the worst game I saw him play. Again I'm not arguing that he isn't a great player, but this is really just trying to scout him as a LT.

Based on what? Everything that we see or read seems to disagree with you.

Seems like the consensus is that Egbuka will be a very solid number two guy which is perfectly fine with me at pick 25. The Robin to Nico's Batman. And there's always a chance that he's more than that. Great football character and underrated athleticism along with the prior chemistry with Stroud. Hard to hate it.

I can’t imagine any GM not calling teams beforehand to get a idea of what to expect. Because you don’t have much time to chat during the draft. Example would be call and ask before hand if you’re expected to be interested to move in draft, if it’s with Texans then what are your interest in compensation, are we using the standard trade chart. Would you rather have a player of ours, future picks are this years picks?
You write all this down for all teams and when you have 5 minutes to talk your ahead of the game. You’re a crap GM if you don’t do this, lol.

He was playing on a hurt ankle which limited his mobility and helped cause these issues. Like I said, go back and watch his 2023 tape against WA/Turner if you want to see what Banks is all about.

Yes, that is how Nick was able to make the deal so quickly with Baltimore in 2023.

I don't see him as an explosive WR. He's going to have problems gaining separation in the NFL. He looked nothing like Marvin Harrison Jr and Jeremiah Smith in the same offense.
Interesting as separation is one of his best abilities. He has been compared to Ricky Pearsall and J S-N and Xavier Leggett.

Whomever is the 1st rd draft pick should have impact this season. The team is not that good to have an early round luxury pick yet. Either protection or a weapon for CJ.
Agree and that's why I have been leaning towards a wide receiver. However, if you can get your future franchise left tackle even if he has to sit until Robinson leaves, that is probably the way to go.

As a fan of Charles Grant, with knowledge that all LT will probably train, it opens round 1 for another position or trade down.

Every year some of your fine ladies and gents find small school gems that one or more members here get behind...and every year we pass on them.

Nick doesn't draft small school guys on day 1 or 2...or hardly 3. Maybe round 6 or 7 or UDFA.

In short, get ready to be disappointed, Charlie Brown, because Lucy is pulling the football...again.

I prefer an offensive lineman but if the top guys are gone and Egbuka is there...I have zero issues. His floor is very high imho. Worst case, he's a solid if somewhat unspectacular slot receiver. A mild disappointment in that case, but not a true bust. Still a valuable piece. Upside is above and beyond JSN...who made the pro-bowl last year. He's also swarmy as hell for a receiver and has a lot of intangibles that are plusses.

He's got a chance to be a better version of Kirk, and can replace him next year. And next year...add a true burner/outside receiver. Now you've got 3 guys that can all burn you.

Heck...I'm not even opposed to doubling up and getting a guy in the 3rd round that can be that guy.

Trading down to, like, 30, should get the Texans that team's low round 3. With that 3 and a 2 next year, we should be able to maybe trade 58 and jump to the top of round 2.

Except Grant was one of the Texans 30 visits as well as a pro day visit.

They sometimes visit with guys that they like, but probably won't draft. Once they are FA's now they have a complete profile. Once he is in the league, the small school thing totally goes away. Now you're dealing with a 4 yr (or longer) vet...but now you go back to your notes from your top 30 to help in the eval.

It's all puff and smoke until tonight, but this idea that o-line will go early and often has been gaining steam for a week or so. Most mocks are moving guys like Banks and even Booker up. I've seen Banks as high as 6 and Booker as high as 12. We'll see tonight as the proof is always in the pudding. But if this is true, I hope the Texans don't make a desperation move. I'm ok moving up a few spots if necessary, but if you're talking top half, that is too costly imho. The second-tier guys like Ratledge can still be found later and be a good add to the line. Let the draft come to you Nick. I know....he has never done that! But there's always hope.

I just read a suggestion that the Eagles would trade 32 and they're round three plus a 2026 round 6 for 25. I countered with 32 and 64 for our 25 and 89. What are your thoughts?
If Simmons med evaluation is good, I think he is a Texan.

The Texans visit small school participants that they don't draft? Darn, I was convinced Nick was smart.

I just edited above post and realized there were three in one comment. Perhaps I'm not leaving enough time in between posts but my fingers get happy this time of year.

1) I would make that deal with the Eagles no question

2) God I hope not. I don't want anything to do with him, and he also won't play this year. No way Jose.

3) And 1000% yes. You think they draft every guy they have in the top 30? Since when did they have 30 draft picks in a year?

It's beginning to make sense to me. And while the Texans have additional ammo from the Tunsil deal, I think they're farther back than the teams willing to deal want to go. Sitting at 1.25 and taking Donovan Jackson looks to be the best move.

I'm more than good with that result. I like Jackson a lot. Very unsexy pick, but a foundational piece for the o-line rebuild.
