Texans' FA News

Bently got a ridiculous amount of money from the Browns, they were also his hometown team and he wanted to be there, that means we would basically have had to pay him Left Tackle money. I dont care how good he is, there was no way we could throw enough cash at him to get him here.

FYI. I heard on ESPN that Witherspoon is expecting to sign with the Rams(?) (not sure about team) and is expecting a signing bonus around 13M.

Lavaar Aaringtonn wants at least $10M up front....

Does anybody know if we even made an attempt at signing LeCharles Bentley??????????????:brickwall :brickwall :brickwall :brickwall

we're looking at flanagan the GB C...sherman knows him well and obviously thinks he'll be our starting C

Gaffney was the only Texan that I couldn't really get excited about since he caught the game winning TD on a crap call against my Vols when he held it for a fraction of a second way back when. Gator free I love it. I'm loyal enough to root for him as a Texan but this really doesn't hurt personally. Easily replaceable and he does stuff like drop the ball before he walks into the endzone. Another bad draft pick g-o-n-e.

I don't know much about Weaver but he looks solid and had decent #'s for a 3-4 end. I don't think double digit sacks is a stretch since 4-5 in a 34 is more like 8-12 in a 43. Most likely the youngest quality DE available so I can't see how this isn't a solid aquisition. Overpaid at 13 mil guaranteed because Alexander got only 15 mil I think but that hasn't been clarified so maybe it's for 5 years. If so we just filled a big need for reasonable money. If not well...

Overall I like the moves so far as we have been cutting our losses and making sensible additions. Hopefully there's an o-line signing out there somewhere. Apparently my glass half full :homer: is feeling charged though at first I was wondering here we go again.

Red means UFA and the player is now free to negotiate with anyone.

Black means RFA, meaning the player's movement is restricted but only if they have received a tender (offer) from the Texans to stay on. According to the article on NFL.com, only Ragone, Wand, Peek, and Armstrong have received tenders.

Blue means the player is under contract and locked up.

Thanks AJ, that part I understand. . . I was referring to the confusion about somone is gone, no they are here, no wait we still have them, no they've left! Sometimes these threads get so much stuff in them it's hard to sift through it all.

How can this be right? Banks in on there in BLUE and I believe he's not "locked up," I believe he's long gone.

Him, Coleman, and Hollings are all in the free agent/released row.

They are listed in the free agent/ cap casualty (FA/CC) released section and those happen to be blue as well. I was talking about blue in the main roster area.

Before you go back to Titansland, any news from around there or the league of interest?

I was waiting until the 15th to renew my season tickets but this is too good to be true. I'm sending in my payment tonight.

I remember meeting Gaff after we drafted him his rookie year and getting a beautiful autograph from him on a Texan's helmet. Nice guy. I hope they bring him back, but if not, good luck to him.
Wells always played hard, but I understand if he moves on.
Peek has got to come back! Peek and Wells consistantly played with the most heart and passion over the past few season. Those were two guys that brough it every play. If we were to somehow loose both of them, that would be a pretty big blow.
Peek better come back.

Armstrong and Peek (among others) are both restricted free agents, so they have not been released to the open market yet, they still have time to sign them to a restricted free agent tender before they can receive offers from other teams.

According to the site http://www.houstonprofootball.com/ (scroll down to the bottom of that first page) the Texans tendered Peek to the high tender level ($1.55M), meaning any team trying to get him will owe us a 1st round pick, and Armstrong, Ragone, and Wand signed low tender ($712k), so Wand or Ragone would yield us a 3rd round pick if any team signs them away, but those four players have been signed to their tenders for now and are not released to the free market.

Texans | Ragone tendered
Sat, 11 Mar 2006 20:55:41 -0800

The Houston Texans have tendered restricted free agent QB Dave Ragone. The team would receive a third-round draft choice as compensation if he signs elsewhere for the 2006 season.

Texans | Peek tendered
Sat, 11 Mar 2006 20:50:48 -0800

The Houston Texans have tendered restricted free agent LB Antwan Peek. The team would receive a first-round draft choice as compensation if he signs elsewhere for the 2006 season.

Texans | Wand tendered
Sat, 11 Mar 2006 20:55:54 -0800

The Houston Texans have tendered restricted free agent OT Seth Wand. The team would receive a third-round draft choice as compensation if he signs elsewhere for the 2006 season.

So, in a lost season we just couldn't get Ragone on some NFL game film huh? Too bad we aren't that forward thinking as an organization yet.

I totally agree, we did a huge disservice to Ragone not playing him late last year.

We also tendered Derick Armstrong, although we don't receive any compensation if another team signs him, just a right of refusal, however those work exaclty.

I wonder if Linehan would give up a third round pick to get reunited with Rags. He's one coach that probably has confidence in him, NFL game film or not.

Peek won't be going anywhere if someone has to give up a first to get him....I mean....would you do it? Not me. Now Rags could have someone take a shot at him. Relatively cheap in the scheme of things.

There is a season's worth of film playing well in NFLE
That's worth exactly squat. You don't work against NFL caliber talent. If you can beat NFL coverages or react to hot reads against the actual league the film would have tangible value. Every second of film in nfle would be pure spec. Every second of NFL game film has zero speculation.

I doubt anyone would be willing to give up a 3rd for Ragone, but if someone offers we'd better take it. We can easily find a better talent in the 3rd round than Ragone (not necessarily at QB, but I'm sure we can find one there too, i.e. Reggie McNeal).

Wasn't Peek's tender $1.55 million or close to it?

Is this sarcasm? Looks like sarcasm. OK, probably is. I just wanted to be sure.

now Vinny, you know if Ragone had come in behind that 'non-existant O-line' and somehow managed to win a game it would have done nothing but upset the apple cart for pretty boy Carr.

There was absolutely no reason in the world for Ragone to not get some gametime in some of those blowout loses last season. Except of course, to avoid controversy. :spy:

SO if these guys go to different teams do we get the picks in this years draft??

FYI. The tender levels were low--$712k, mid--$1.55 mil and high--$2.06 mil. Peek was given a mid level tender which does carry a 1st as compensation. A high tender garners a 1st and a 3rd as compensation.

I thought there was supposed to be a 3rd one but hadn't seen the $2.06M one mentioned yet so I wasn't sure.

A RFA tender is simply a qualifying offer made by the current team. It doesn't mean the player has signed anything. RFAs have until April 21 to accept (sign) the current team's qualifying offer or entertain offer sheets from other teams. If they accept an offer sheet from another team, the current team has first right of refusal - meaning they can match any other club's offer. If the current team chooses not to match another team's offer sheet, then the compensation stated above would kick in.

About the comment in another post about Armstrong and first right of refusal: When a player who is given a RFA qualifying offer (tender) was not drafted when they initially came into the league, then there is no draft compensation if another team signs that player - but the current team has the first right of refusal (right to match any offers) on offer sheets the player receives from another team.

Updated Ourlads depth chart... the roster I posted yesterday afternoon was updated overnight. They have moved all the UFAs off the main roster. It looks pretty weak at a number of positions right now..... wide receiver, offensive line, middle linebacker ... yuk.

Don't pay too much attention to the Center depth. Those are tweaks that will come in the next few days. They won't move McKinney to G until it happens but they will probably slide Washington behind Weary....I'm getting sick just looking at that o-line. Nice work Sabo...you are the best when it comes to this stuff.
