Texans/BL Mock Draft - 2010 FINAL EDITION

Recent Draft History suggest there will be multiple trade down options for the Texans #20. Chances are better than 50% an elite talent will fall who some team will have rated much higher on their board (because of need or evaluation) creating a buzz withen that war room to make a call to trade up. Facts support the most attractive draft slots where these coveted players are available most often are between #17-#26 so in other words the Texans draft selection is right in middle of mix teams target to give up later round picks to address a particular need/position. Since I/We have no idea who that trading partner will be or player in question is targeted (Byant, Clausen, Spiller) it makes too much sense for the Texans not to make a deal & trade back, in this situation its to address RB position late 2nd who will be gone by their 3rd pick (see last year) I also think its harder to trade up in third to 2nd unless you involve that first pick, so it has to be done in the first round to set-up your board.

Texans #20 trade w/Baltimore #26 & exchange Ravens 2nd #57 for Texans #81. Ravens get Dez Bryant, WR Oklahoma State

Texans 1st rd. pick Devin McCourtey or Taylor Mays
Texans 2nd rd. pick Dominique Franks, CB Oklahoma (if they don't get a cb in 1st) or address interior OL Vladimir Ducasse or Jared Veldheer, DL Torell Troup/Linval Joseph
Texans extra 2nd rd. via Baltimore Toby Gerhart or Jonathan Dwyer

Impact players CB, RB & OL/DL

Texans need to address CB & RB positions & combine that with impact player inside. Tough call which direction Texans would address here as all seem worthy late 2nd rd. prospects. Vladimir may settle in as a road grader type of LG while Veldheer would compete right away with Eric Winston @ RT & develop into a starting caliber LT down the road. After watching tape of Troupe I don't see a huge drop off between him & Dan Williams both can fill the 4-3 under tackle need while Joseph is more athletic than his size suggests so he does fit Texans inside needs. don't project any of these prospect available #81.

Texans 4th rd. pick - Blair White, Michigan State 6022 209
should be whoever they don't address on the OL/DL with that 2nd rounder. But if nobody is available the Texans should take the bpa. Re-signing Kevin Walters was key this offseason but Texans cannot ignore a postion of strength, if they want to keep it a position of strength if the right fit comes along to fill & replace players moving forward, small price with #118th pick.

Texans 5th rd. pick - Earl Mitchell, DT Arizona 6016 296
local kid have relations with family member so I've been following him awhile, keeping him under wraps until now. He is a converted TE, yes that's right but instead of moving to LT he moved to DT. has the quickness & athletic ability the Texans covet. inside one gap penetrator great rotational prospect with Texans current roster to develop.

Texans 6th rd. pick #187 - Deji Karim, RB Southern Illinois 5086 210
developmental back in Ray Rice/Maruice Jones Drew mold
Texans 6th rd. pick #197 - Shelly Smith, Colorado State 6027 300
every year gotta throw in a Ram (Kubiak) tested very well @ combine fits the mold for ZBS
Texans 7th rd. pick #227 Rusty Smith, QB Florida Atlantic 6050 230
In the Matt Schawb mold, developmental pick for sure but has outside shot to make it about what you expect in the 7th.

McCourty and Gerhart work for me as is what I've projected with a trade with Chargers. WIth the other 2nd round and Texans history on DTs I think Lamarr Houston may be their preference over Troup or Joseph. I'm ok with any of the three. No FS if Mays not taken in first? Hmm....

we've discussed the Texans safety position in great length, outside of Thomas falling to #20 or Nate Allen/Morgan Burnett #51 the talent currently on Texans roster Wilson, Pollard, Barber its comparable. Mays (if Cushing gushing about him) would be hard to overlook #26. I think this would work & if they do take Mays in this scenero Franks in 2nd would be a solid pick with Toby that would give you FS/CB/RB all of which would start.

Texans should have traded back in the first as outlined, if they wanted Kareem Jackson they could have selected him later.

like the Ben Tate pick, was really worried about Dwyer. Used Toby to trade down, actually approve.

I tried to wait until the very end to disclose Earl Mitchell, did not have time to explain pick as wolf had wanted but had it on relieable sources just didnt think they would take him that early.

Can't believe Blair was not drafted seemed perfect for Kubiaks offense (Manning/Colts have him, watch him make the team). they went intead with two more TE's one who may be Owens replacement if not resigned, & a slot receiver not really a TE at all (Dickerson).

Trindon is a guy we (rmartin65 & badboy) selected in our mocks with the 6th rd. pick.

Also nailed CSU OG Shelly Smith in 6th.

Both Rusty & Karim off the board by picks.
