Texans 2015 Free Agency

Is Moore better than Lewis?
A poll is included

New York Giants missed out on prized free safety Devin McCourty. They have thus far given the cold shoulder to their own big-name safey, Antrel Rolle. They have, however, often been mentioned as suitors for two of the top remaining safeties, Rahim Moore and Ron Parker.

With 2015 NFL Free Agency opening officially at 4 p.m. ET Tuesday, both of those players could quickly be off the market.

Really hope we can sign Rahim Moore and Wilfork.

Moore, Wilfork, and Nate Irving would be a great haul. Irving is an elite run stuffing ILB, but has a very small market right now as he's coming off ACL surgery.

Wilfork and Irving would be great additions to the run defense while Moore would give us our best deep safety in who knows how long. Would like to re-sign Lewis if we can. He would be a very good 3rd safety and could replace Swearinger in some pass sets.

My wish list is:

Wilfork
Moore
Bowers
Bruce Carter or Akeem Ayers

Saw a Tweet from Bowers this morning. Sounds like he might go to the highest bidder, which might take us out of the bidding

I have no issue with players looking to get paid. I only have a problem with my team being the one that does the overpaying. Ha

Do you guys think Lewis was that bad? Didn't he lead the team in INTs?

Lewis played really well last year IMO. Moore is one of the most underrated players in the league though.

Seriously, as soon as his name was mentioned 2 gif's of his blown coverage in his rookie year appear. Yet nobody mentions that was 4 years ago and that he has graded out as a top 5 FS in each of the last 2 years.

Only reason the Broncos let him walk is because they signed Talib and Ward last year and extended Chris Harris during the season. They don't have the money to re-sign Moore and allocate that much to one position group.

I think Moore would be a great addition to the team as it allows us to play Swearinger in the box where he is far better. Safety is a far more important position than it used to be, so I would love to see us invest in a good one. Rumors also have that he could be seeking as low as 5M a year ($5-8 million a year it said), which is a solid price if he will take on the lower end.

I would also love to see Carter as a cover LB for us. I think those two alone would make a huge difference. As much as I like the idea of Wilfork next to Watt, I just think we could find a decent NT cheaper and that he would have less of an impact as a solid Cover LB and Safety, allowing others to focus more on the run defense.

I've been told some agents are holding back their guys to sign with teams forced to spend boatloads to catch up to the cap. Raiders are going to have to sign some dumb $$$ contracts.

It's not an either or proposition.

ESPN's Tania Ganguli has...
mentioned that the Texans are very much wanting Kendrick Lewis back in Houston for the upcoming season. Some would expect that the Texans will let the first wave of free agency pass then make their move for Lewis. The Texans currently have three free agent safeties heading into the new league year in Lewis, Danieal Manning, and restricted free agent Eddie Pleasant.

Any more word on Bowers? Has he visited? Is there a confirmed visit scheduled? Or was all that just internet noise?

The impression I get is that it will take a lot of money to bring in Wilfork, and I am not sure we have the cap space to grab Wilfork, Moore, and Carter. If that turns out to be the case, it could very well be a either or proposition.

I heard on 610 that we re-signed Pleasant.

Depends on whether you consider $4-5 mil a year a lot.

Moore is not going to get McCourty money and his 1st year cap hit is $6 mil.

Carter is going to be a little more than Reed who has a 1st year cap hit of about $3 mil.

I'd like to bring in Moore at FS and re-sign Lewis as a SS.

Swearinger can sit on the bench. If he improves in coverage he will earn playing time. If not, he can kick rocks.

I also really like the idea of getting a year or two from Wilfork.

Thoughts on safety Rahim Moore as he visits Texans
Moore, a second-round pick out of UCLA in 2011, spent his first four NFL seasons with the Denver Broncos. He became infamous for allowing a big touchdown catch to then-Ravens receiver Jacoby Jones in the 2012 playoffs but bounced back in a big way in 2013.

That 2013 season didn't end as planned, though. Moore couldn't finish the season due to lateral compartment syndrome in his left leg. Moore's leg has completely recovered, but it was a scary injury and he nearly lost his leg in the process. Many people with the same condition have their legs amputated.

Moore is smart, athletic, has good range and is a physical player. He works hard and as such is good in the locker room and on the practice field. He made four interceptions last season, had two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery, and did a good job patrolling center field. His tackling was a work in progress and he did get distracted at times looking for the big play.
Ummm, calling Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard... Dr. CND...?

Sounds like we will: http://hou.scout.com/story/1526172-eddie-pleasant-to-re-sign-with-the-texans?s=116

Yes, please! A tackling dummy should be his best friend right now too.

Any fathers out there looking to show their kids tackling techniques should stay far away from Swearinger film

Former Cowboys LB Bruce Carter signing in Tampa Bay, per source.

would love to get rahim moore. i wanted houston to draft him a few years back.
disappointed about carter to tampa because again i wanted the texans to draft him.

how about mason foster, rolando mcclain (he reallly improved last year) or spikes to fill the LB void??

moore, spikes and wilfork would be a haul and a half (the extra half being wilforks mass)

I loved Moore comming out of college also. I think you can cross Rolando McClain off your list. To many character issues for us to pursue him.

As expected, #Bucs are preparing to cut S Dashon Goldson, per @NFLSTROUD. Signed five-year, $41.5 million deal in 2013.

Dwayne Bowe is a pile of garbage as a WR. A rookie would easily be just as bad.

I don't know if I would say he's garbage. Chiefs ranked 29th last season in passing offense. As a matter of fact, not one wide receiver caught one TD pass all of last season for the Chiefs. In 8 seasons Bowe has 7155 receiving yards and 44 TD's. Just saying can't hurt to take a look considering everyone on our depth chart behind Hopkins is pretty much garbage. Stevie Johnson and Micheal Crabtree intrigue me as well.

Actually, running backs tend to have the highest "rookie ceiling".

Here's NE recent draft history for WR: (these are the guys that made the squad and actually started games) - All Hail FA!

Julian Edelman - 1st year - 37 REC, 359 YDS, 2 TD (*5th Season lead NE in Yds)

Aaron Dobson - 1st year - 37 REC, 519 YDS, 4 TD

Taylor Price - 1st year - 3 REC, 41 YDS, 0 TD

Brandon Tate - 1st year - 0-0-0 (He was the 3rd rounder the year they took Edelman in the 7th)

Matt Slater - 1st year - 0-0-0

Chad Jackson - 1st year - 13 REC, 152 YDS, 3 TD

Bethel Johnson - 1st year - 16 REC, 209 YDS, 2 TD

Deion Branch - 1st year - 43 REC, 489 YDS, 2 TD (*2nd & 4th Season lead NE in YDS)

David Givens - 1st year - 9 REC, 92 YDS, 1 TD (*3rd Season led NE in YDS)

My suspicion is that this indicates which receivers came into a system with established starters or not more than the ability to play in the NFL. The third year success rate would reflect the departure of the established receivers and the opportunity to show what they have.

2014:
96 Targets 60 catches 754 yards 0 TDs

He'd be new garbage to the pile behind Nuk...with questionable hands at best.

  • 9 Michael Crabtree WR SF 68 7 108 63.0% 6.5%
  • 12 Dwayne Bowe WR KC 60 7 95 63.2% 7.4%

2 of the 3 guys you're interested in rank pretty high on last years drop list. With the huge question mark at QB I prefer guys that will pull in the ball when it makes it to them. I'd take my chances with a rookie instead of a "name" that drops a lot of catches.

Good, I need a shot of adrenaline. I was beginning to slide into a lack of Texans news daze despite being up until 3 this morning working on a new draft mock.

Rahim Moore...isn't he the guy that completely misplayed the Jacoby Jones TD that lead to the Ravens win and eventual championship?
