Terrell Owens wants to rework contract

This is from the foxsports.com's rumor section, I can't get the full article because I am not a member of the newspapaer they got it from...


The Inquirer's Ashley McGeachy Fox reports that Philadelphia's Terrell Owens wants to renegotiate his seven-year, $46 million contract. Owens may not attend some of the Eagles' off-season workouts if he isn't given a new deal. :thumbdown
 
You have to consider the fact that if TO were a step slower the Eagles would be releasing him as NFL contracts are not guarantee'd . See Troy Brown (Patriots) J. Foreman and J.Sharper (Texans) all three cut / released because of thier contracts. If it were someone other than TO this wouldnt be front page news.
 
Give him his money. Without TO, the eagles would not be in the postion to win SB. QB would not have 64% completion percentage. Give him his MONEY!!!
 
How can you say this isen't true? lol - He only fired his agent, and hired the worst agent in owners nightmares.... Drew will get him more money.
 
Well he did have like the best year of his career and helped the Eagles over come their super bowl drought.

He didn't play in any games leading up to the superbowl, so that argument isn't really valid

hmm yeah i'm sure its really tough to live off the salary he is making now,,,,give me a break all these guys are way over paid, i hope he gets cut. :loser
 
I hope the Eagles don't give him anything.... Why? you ask ? mainly because he is one year into a 7 year contract that HE AGREED to.. I hope TO sits out and the eagles hold him to HIS contract.
TO needs to be a MAN and live up to his contract..

I get tired of these babies crying about getting not enough money on their contracts when they are the ones that sign them. esp after having a good season, then they want to renegotiate it... well when do these players (say like David Boston) give some of their money back when they underachieve? I have heard of one player doing that and for the life of me can't remember who it was and what sport. he didn't feel he did well enough for what he was paid and gave his yearly salary to a charity.
 
I can bet you anything that he will get more money. Like last year when he was going to the Baltimore Ravens but then said that his agent forgot about the deadline and he had alredy struck a deal with the Eagles. I dont know why they overturned that. It's the agents fault he forgot about the deadline thats his and his clients problem why are they going to change that just for him. Like the saying goes " If you give the mouse a cookie, then he will want a glass of milk!"

Interesting point you bring up about contracts and living up to them. Do you feel that if TO lost a step or two in a year or so that the Eagles should, by what you say, honor his contract? Please, there is no loyality on either side. If he feels he's worth more money, I see no problem with him asking for it. Besides, it's the EAGLES choice (not ours) to give it to him or not. Hey, last time I checked, tomorrow isn't promised to anyone.

We all get tired of hte "selfish player act" but to put things into perspective , NFL contracts unlike NBA / MLB contracts (who's contracts are guarantee'd for the duration by both parties) dont bind the team to the player for the duration , only the player to the team meaning the player can be cut at any time the team feels the player isnt living up to the contract or is just too much money against the cap . This is why teams make most contracts so back loaded and players demand such huge signing bonuses .
Should the team not be bound to the contract just as the player is or do thye play by a seperate set of rules ? Sounds like a double standard to me ..... Just ask the ultimate team player Troy Brown of the Super Bowl Champoin New England Patriots or Eddie George of the Titanic's , how bout J.Foreman and J.Sharper of our own Houston Texans for a few examples , these are but a few of the many players caught in salary dumps across the NFL . (the only "Cap Hit " the teams take is a pro-rated portion of the signing bonus) .

What should happen ? .... both parties should be bound to said contract .
What WILL happen ? ....... T.O. Will ge ta new contract with a large signing bonus and a heavily backloaded top end salary which at the point becomes to expensive he will get CUT .

that is exactly what will happen.. He will get his money. I just find it stupid that after a year of signing a contract he is griping about it because he did so well.. But again.. who knows .. next time Roy(or whoever) tackles him,..it could be his last play of his career... never know

Exactly why these players want to get what they can while the gettin is good which to me makes perfect sense business wise but these things cramp the salary cap of ALL teams to some extent .
Im no attorney but if you ask me whoever these players have representing the players in negotions such as these with the league arent getting the job done , the NFL is the only of the big three sports that dont bind the team to the contract as well as the player ..... although you do hear of MLB and NBA players holding out its not nearly as often. :hmmm:
 
Just another selfish player trying to get a few more bucks.Some of these guys forgot long ago what its like in the real world or maybe they just dont care. Makes me glad we got A.J. and not someone like this. Hey I think maybe I'll hold out from work tommorow.
 
i agree i'm gonna go there demand 20 bucks an hour and tell them if i dont get it i'm going to ummmmmmmmm :hmmm: wal-mart lol. i hate some of todays greedy athletes they have it made while some of us work 12 hours a day 6 days a week just to try to pay or bills, and its still hard.
 
Please. I don't feel sorry for Owens or any other nfl players with big contracts that whine for more. The guy signed for 7 years and whines after the 1st year because he thinks he single handedly got the Eagles to the superbowl. Forget the fact that the Eagles have been to the nfc championship game 4 straight years and 3 of those years without him and the 4th year he was hurt and didn't play in the nfc championship. He could retire for a lifetime off his signing bonus or even 1 years salary. Stop crying Owens.
How about guys like Boselli, Joppru, Hollings, etc that cost teams pretty good money and don't get anything in return? Every team has them.
