TCU should be in the Big 12

TCU is ranked #4 in the country in football right now:

If Texas were to lose to Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship game on Saturday, TCU would have a legitimate argument for being chosen to play the winner of Florida-Alabama for the national championship. And this year's performance is no fluke. The Horned Frogs have won at least 10 games in a season in four of the last five years, and they have won 11 games in three of the last four. TCU has consistently fielded remarkably strong football teams.

TCU has also been competitive in Baseball.

On the other hand, Baylor has struggled mightily since day one in the Big 12. The Bears have been routinely outmatched. Maybe they are just now finding their stride, and will be competitive from now on. But so far that has not been the case.

TCU should be invited into the Big 12 South, and Baylor should be permitted to find another conference where they have a more reasonable chance of being competitive and establishing a winning tradition.
 
TCU's strength of schedule is actually rated tougher than Texas this year.

Baylor will stay in the Big 12 because of some rule that talks about if a conference has a private school then certain records can be kept private for all the schools in the conference. Don't ask me to explain.

Baylor will continue to be the doormat for the Big 12 for eternity.
 
Personally I was thinking Baylor and UH might want to think about switching conferences.

Either way it would make the Big 12 South the toughest division in the land.

TCU is a private school just like Baylor. If they were to switch places, TCU would enable all of these privileges that you mention to be maintained.
 
Baylor is not going to leave the Big XII. They will be content to be doormats every year just to cash those checks each year.
 
i never understood why tcu didnt get the invite to the big 12 over baylor that being said my thinking is having baylor in the big 12 boosts the academics of the conference and with a team like baylor in house keeps texas and oklahoma from having to play teams like tcu or boise

Yep, Baylor had too much political pull.

I would like to see both TCU and UH in the Big 12 South. They could then move OU and OSU north and kick out 2 lame North schools because that division is so lame.
 
Old Southwest Conf was good. Just think Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, Texans A&M, Houston, Arkansas SMU, Baylor, and Rice. This aint bad group. Especially, bolded unis.

yeah the southwest conf was the best. but after smu got hit with the death penalty that was the beginning of the end

coogs got hit in 89 smu got hit in 85 ncaa found out they were still paying players then dropped the hammer in 86. no football in 87 no home games in 88 lost 55 scholarships school added a self imposed extra year of prob no tv games from 86-89 and the list goes on imagine if ohio state or florida or usc got hit like that! smu after 23 years is just now recovering imo and that's why there will never be another death penalty sorry about going on and on but i have a weird obsession with the smu death penalty

I read a book about it years ago.

Cant remember the name of the book.
 
When I was in high school, back in 83' or so, one of the star football players was also the State champ shot-putter. One Saturday morning, he did not show up at the school to ride the bus to the track meet. We waited around, the coach called his house. He could not be reached.

We left without him and arrived at the stadium about 25 miles away. As we were piling out of the bus, our shot-putter drives up in a brand new silver 280ZX. He had signed with SMU the day before.

He went on to have a great career at SMU and played for many years in the NFL.

If your talking football only, ok, but Baylor has the second most National Championships in the Big 12 to Texas.....

there's a couple of them but my fav is "a payroll to meet" its goes really deep into why they still paid players even after they got caught the first time and how everybody from texas to tcu and a&m could have gotten the death penalty too! very good book but very hard to find because its a collectors item lucked up and found my copy at a garage sale in fort worth:woot2:

True, before the Texas game they carted their tennis team on the field to congratulate them for their Big 12 Championship. Despite Texas killing them on the football field a few Baylor fans were taunting us saying "at least we kicked your a**es in tennis!".

Knowing we lost at tennis really took the fun out of killing them in football. I had no comeback for that.

I've got a good one. Some of you Cougars probably won't like it, but it's been verified by a few coaches that I've met who were around at the time.

During his senior year of high school Eric Dickerson was being recruited heavily by all the teams in the Southwest Conference. He came down to a final three of Oklahoma, Houston, and SMU.

On his official visit to UH he was presented with a brand new Pontiac Trans-Am. The UH athletic department figured they would get to Dickerson before SMU could because everyone knew they were eventually going to try. Well it backfired. Because the very next day, Dickerson drove up to SMU's campus in his brand new car and committed on the spot. He kept the car that UH gave him though.
 
I'm all for TCU getting back in the conference. And yea, bring the the U of Houston back to. And while they're at it they could lose the "Big 12 North" which just waters-down what conference strength there is. It's much weaker than the South division and just restore the old name of Southwest conference, or better yet just Texas-Conference for all of you guys who get all excited with anything that's got "Texas" in it. I mean Arkansas is long-gone, so it would be an all Texas Conference.
But the Big 12 is in shambles this year, what maybe the 4th or 5th best conference in the country ?
 
It isn't going to happen but I wish it would. Out of my friends I have always been the one to get beaten down because they would all talk UT or A&M smack in the 90s and now and I really couldn't counteract with much. Plus I had two older brothers go to UT so I really grew up a UT fan too. Anyways, the rumor always was that Ann Richards forced their hand to take Baylor. Funny thing is, TCU has been good for close to a decade now. This isn't anything new. With Patterson staying on they are going to be a consistent team for awhile.

I think what might happen is the Mountain West will expand and if they added UH or someone then the conference would have some more power.

At the pace they are going at, the Mountain West will not even have to add more teams to gain BCS conference eligibility.

Agree. I had heard rumors about making them a 2 division conference and UH was mentioned. What they really need is to have teams like Colorado St, who used to have some great talent, get out of the dumps. I'm not sure a New Mexico or UNLV will ever get there but the Top 3 along with Air Force and some others getting back into shape will help.

hahaha, thats a Baylor football fan for you. I love Baylor athletics because my dad used to live or die with it as i was growing up and also worked for them, I went their for a year and was disgusted with most of the people and most of their attitudes towards Baylor sports. I couldnt get my friends to get up and go to Baylor football games at 11:30 living 5 seconds from the stadium. We wreck in womens sports, track and field, and like you said tennis.

Baylor football finally looked like it may break through this year then one of the best QBs in the country in Robert Griffin tore a ligement. Hopefully we are back next year.


I am all for the TCU in the big 12 and think it would be great, if it wernt for my dad id say kick Baylors "holier than thou" ass outa there....

What sports are you talking about? The only major NCAA sport NCs that I can recall Baylor having won are women's basketball in '05 and .... men's tennis in '04, which I had to look up...
 
Truth is, Boise State is too good for the WAC and should move to the MWC along with Houston and maybe Nevada and Tulsa. That would create a BCS worthy conference in both Football and Basketball (the only two sports that pay for themselves). U of H would have to upgrade Robertson Field again to make it hold more people to meet BCS standards or move their football games somewhere like Rice Stadiums or Reliant temporarily. Rice is probably not a player.

IMO extra travel costs would be more that offset by Bowl receipts. The MWC would have 5 top twenty teams this year.

On another note with Mangini leaving Kansas, Coach Sumlin might be under increasing pressure to make a jump. Of course, U of H making a move to MWC might help.

Doesn't College Baseball pay for itself?
 
I doubt it. Field maintenance, equipment purchase and maintenance, Travel expenses, not much of a purse for National Champion. Just can't see making much if anything. Most schools probably don't even charge students for going to the games (may be some donation out of student fees whether they attend or not).

Maybe it does at some of the elite schools but I would imagine that would only be a few.

Here at Sam Houston we lose money in every sport except men's basketball (which pays for itself) and football (which has to cover the losses of everything else).
