TBDIAGO Draft (Beer)

TBDIAGO = The Best Defense Is A Good Offense....Draft

OK
so
Wade Phillips is a decent hire as DC right? Well so is drafting 4.5 1st round Defenders recently. Mario, Okoye, Cushing and Jackson and I count Demeco as a half. 2 lineman, 2 backers and a DB 1st round should be enough for a successful guy like WP to handle right? Add a decent 4th round DB and Antonio Smith and you've got about half a solid defense right? RIGHT?!?

SO screw the defense on this draft. This is the Houston Texans. We've seen beast mode off of a few lineman and backup potential skill players (Slaton, Jones, Anderson, Walter, Daniels {Ouch, I went there didn't I?}, Dreesen, and uh...that backup named Matt Schaub) so what if they decide to load the offense balls to the walls?

1. Julio Jones WR. Across from AJ? With Schaub flingin pigskin? Yes please. A real #2 option.

2. Kyle Rudolph TE. Are you kidding me? Another TE? You bet. Offers the size to make a difference blocking and the athleticism to make a difference in the passing game. OD Who? I don't buy the few catches at the end of the year. Damaged goods. Passing game = unstoppable.

3. Derrick Locke RB. Lightning to Foster's Thunder. + whatever Ben Tate is? RB set. Oh and no more Slaton returning kicks.....

4. James Carpenter OG. Another Alabama interior lineman. Sounds good to me.

Take that conventional thought processes.

I do trust Kubiak to evaluate offense over defense. I've already taken heat for Mocking Julio #11 to Texans. It's not just he could be BPA, its the type of WR he is & how well he would fit in a WR blocking heavy, opposite Andre Johnson, not a Diva play-maker who steps up in big game situations. Also I've not brought this up because I didn't want to risk Texans #2 WR to injury but Julio is rated as the #2 returner in the nation behind Patrick Peterson, just another feather to add even more value to the pick.

After WR if I could choose another pick on the offensive side it would be on the OL. The Texans got two players to the Pro Bowl, Arian Foster & Vonta Leach but I think they forgot about Wade Smith. He played at a high level the entire season & had to battle to earn his starting LG position. When healthy Mike Brisiel is fully satisfactory however he cannot stay on the field because of injury's. While I'm not giving up on Antoine Caldwell he has looked lost at times & overall been disappointing. I thought 6th rd. pick Shelly Smith looked promising, he should push Kassey Studdard off the roster. Then over achiever Center Chris Myers. He battles every play despite being over matched & enjoy's good chemistry w/Matt Schaub. However we've been saying for a couple years the Center position is in need of upgrade. Chris can also fill OG position if needed so he has versatility & like Pittsburgh back-up Center Doug Legursky is serviceable behind true starting material like a Maurkice Pouncey. Now his brother Mike Pouncey OG/C Florida 6040 310 if still available? would be hard to resist unless Phil Taylor is still there? Mike could start day one as Texans RG while learning system & gaining confidence of teammates & coaching staff until he is ready to take over full time Center duties or via injury.

1st. - Julio Jones
2nd. - Mike Pouncey, OG/C

I really can't go any further on the offensive side. those are two big holes filled on offense the rest must be defensive. I suppose could add a QB to develop? like your 3rd & 4th rd. picks just flip them around :)

Pouncey in the 2nd....probably not there but I'd take it fashow. JJ (Julio that is) would be what JJ (Jacoby) isn't. The dynamic threat opposite THE dynamic threat. If Schaub threw for less than 3 bills every single game it would be a travesty with that kind of firepower. And the lanes it would open for Foster? Unholy.

My big point is that any DC worth his salt can take the core of the D (Mario, Okoye, Demeco, Cushing, Jackson throwing in Barwin and Quin and maybe, maybe, maybe Pollard) and turn out a product that at the very least....isn't the very least. The standard we're looking for is something better than a unit that sucks at an all time rate. Where are the big names on offense? AJ. Daniels sprouted in a friendly system, as did Schaub (though I believe Schaub is just more talented than OD) as did Foster, Walter....I mean the list goes on. Take this elite group of nobodies and make it one of the all time great offenses. Screw the defense. They suck. But it won't matter if teams can't score 40 every game.

BTW I'm not drunk anymore. Last night, despite my ability to spell, I was tossed. Funny that the only real response I got is from a guy named "Beerlover"....hehe...
