I like Ben from L.S.U. He is a huge center with great power. I think he hurt himself this year, but he is still a great prospect.

By most accounts that I've seen, McKinney is rated as one of the top centers in the NFL, usually rated at about 9 or 10. The big knock on him is that he occassionally gets man-handled by the bigger DT's and NT's.

I really like Raiola, but I do have one concern. Look at his numbers - he is a McKinney clone. If he gets bigger, and he needs at least 20 more pounds, will he lose some of his quickness and mobility.

This is why I'm beginning to like the idea of taking a chance on Wilkerson. Players almost always come back from his type of injury and the repaired knee is often stronger than before. But before his injury he was rated as the number one center and seems to have all thats required to zone block in our system. What I really like is he's intelligent and "excels at making all the line calls".

I like him for pick 3B, but will he be available?
 
picking a center in the second round seems like reach. there isn't really a top center in the draft that could go that high. wilkerson from LSU could have been, but he got hurt and the only other center who could go in the 2nd in Jason Brown and thats only if he sets the world on fire during his work outs. a free agent like Jason Ball from the chargers or that dude from the ravens seem like a better choice.
 
Take a G in the second round...our guards have Carr running for his life! Chester Pitts went from a really OT last year to a really bad OG this year. What happened to him? :hairpull:
 
I think Ben will go around the bottom of the 2nd, or top of the 3rd. In either case we will have to trade up to get him.

NFL Draft Showcase has Ben Wilkerson being taken in the 1st round. Something to think about.

Something else to think about. I remember that some of you were pissed that the Texans didn't take Randy Starks with the 11th pick, and he didn't end up getting picked until the middle of the 3rd by the Titans. So when you evaluate . . . .
 
we could get Jason brown in the third, probably with our second pick. he looks pretty good to me.. and he is damn strong.

Centers are hardly ever drafted in the first, much less centers coming back from a season ending injury.
 
If Eslinger declares, he's the one I want. A dominate center form one of the Big 10s best running units. Sounds good to me.

Ben Wilkerson will not go in the 1st round. Period.

And yes, it is hard to determine who is going to fall in the draft.
 
I think that I would rather have Jason Brown because he is basically just as good, but for a lower pick, and they say that he may break the NFL combine bench record. :hmmm:
 
I like Eslinger. I watched him in the Music City Bowl or whatever, and I think this guy coule be a steal. Maybe a little undersized, but this kid plays tough. And better yet we could get him I think early on the second day. Besides the way we are going to work this out, this guy will get experience little by little, just what he needs. In 2 years he could be starting full time for us and shock a lot of people about how good he is. I just don't know if we could wait 2 years.............

If we go for a person like Wilkerson, its going to be at a high price. And I like Wilkerson............but have we thought about taking Wilkerson and moving McKinney to guard? Just another option to look into............

I thought this was one of the biggest surprises of the '04 draft. Many had
Starks ranked right in the there with Wilfork (Miami) & Harris (OK) amoung
DTs, and we were apparently giving him active consideration with one of our
top 2 picks, although the cagey Casserly had other ideas as of course he
didn't use his 1 or 2 on a DT. But I'm still puzzled as to how Starks could have dropped all the way to the 3rd round ? Maybe it was just a supply & demand thing, because there has been a lot of good DLine guys in recent
drafts.
 
Starks was not expecting a first round selection. He figured he was a 2nd rounder the whole time. The only people that had him ranked high were the internet draft Einsteins.

This is the second straight year Maryland has lost a potential senior All-American to the pros. Randy Starks was a 2004 third-round selection by the Tennessee Titans.
Maryland staffers pressed Starks to remain, fearing correctly he wouldn't match his expectations of getting chosen in the second round.

My votes on these two guys. Honkey Tonk hit it right on the nose...it all depends on what kind of time table we are looking at but one of these two guys would be great. I also watched the bowl game with Eslinger and he consistantly beat his man and got the secondary to block upfield. Great looking kid with a high motor at center.
Good thing is we ALL SEE AND AGREE that the Center position needs to be addressed this offseason...hopefully the bigheads upstairs see it the same way!
 
beerlover = einstein Starks is exactly what the Texans could use a young, strong nose tackle of the future, I thought and still do that Randy was a steal for the Titans (with our pick too :rolleyes: ).

Eslinger did look good, don't know a whole bunch about him, if he declares & has a solid combine the Texans would be lucky to aquire him in the 3rd.

a solid need fullfilled, yes. a better value with a 3rd, yes. Also lucky if he's still availalble, thats all I'm not sure what your inferring other than what was stated. Still a blue chip CB, which is really deep this draft (if the right player is available) or one of the underclassman middle linebackers such as Crowder or Thurman out of Georgia would be my personal preference in the 2nd, thank you for asking :heh:
 
brandon would by an excellent compliment to Dunta on the corner, off the top of my head I recall him being very tall (6'2-6'4) with sub 4.5 speed. Sounds to me like an elite prospect that since he has now declared early to enter the draft will be one of those who rise up the draft day boards. As a matter of fact I think I already put him in the 1st round going to the Seahawks in my work in progress Mock Draft. I doubt he will be available in the 2nd but if he were I'd be all for him :jumpbanan
 
I wouldn't be to suprised if the texans go for a corner back in the 1st round, I would like to know how much money they have to spend in the off season?
