Nice work!

Hodges is intriguing. Could you expound in more detail?

Hodges started off at Penn State at S, he is good in coverage. Had over 100 tackles his last 2 seasons and can lower the boom. Very competitive has the ability to be a 3 down backer. Looks like he got bigger from year to year and seems to have the frame to play around 245. Plays fast. If he is asked to play on 3rd down or is not able to get off the field on a passing down he will not be looking like Bradie James out there. With him and Cushing on the field we will have 2 guys who can cover like San Francisco. The Texans have shown interest in him.

What gives you the idea that the Texans have shown interest? When you make a statement like that , you need to substantiate it ....

I think he's an interesting option .... kinda that hybrid SS/ILB type I refered to in another thread. Its a pick I would seriously consider.

they (the texans) interviewed him at the east west shrine game. Hold on and i will get you the name of the person. Sorry, i'll go to google real quick.

Yes i think he is a good option. He weighed in at 239 at the east west shrine game. He switched from s to olb in 2010 and also played wlb and slb.

HERE IS WHERE I SAW THAT THE TEXANS HAD INTERVIEWED GERALD HODGES.

By Charlie Campbell - @draftcampbell

Here is a recap of the player interviews that were conducted on the field after Monday's practice by the East team. Typically, these interviews with area scouts are to set up longer, formal interviews for a night during the week. While teams say they "talk" to every player, teams do not take the time to conduct formal interviews with every draft prospect, so this can be a clue as to which players are on their radar.

Baltimore - Memphis guard/center Jordan Devey, North Carolina State safety Earl Wolff

Detroit - Glenville State offensive tackle Mark Jackson

Houston - South Florida cornerback Kayvon Webster, California (PA) guard/center Eric Kush, Connecticut linebacker Sio Moore, Penn State linebacker Gerald Hodges

Jacksonville - Navy wide receiver Brandon Turner

Minnesota - Virginia Tech wide receiver Marcus Davis

Football courses through the Geathers family - especially in SEC country.
Kwame's brother, Robert, played for Georgia from 2001-03 and is currently a member of the Cincinnati Bengals. Another brother, Clifton, went to South Carolina and is also in the NFL now with the Indianapolis Colts. Their father, Robert Geathers, Sr., also played for the Gamecock and was a third-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 1981. Uncle James "Jumpy" Geathers" played 13 NFL seasons after starring at Wichita State.

I think that we are going to target an ilb who is better in coverage. Nico is a liability coverage, not what we need (Patriots game). I don't think that Geathers is athletic enough to play nt in our system and we need someone who can start from day one. John Jenkins has exceptional athletic ability for a man of his size and is showing it at the Senior Bowl. Nico Johnson's production was not that good at all. I personally think Hodges will go higher than most. He had amazing college production, is great in coverage, plays fast, and is far more athletic than Nico Johnson. After watching more tape and reading more reports I might mock him in the 3rd.

thanks mussop, i think they would really help out our interior d. Jenkins should get a lot of 1 on 1 matchups and we probably would have an ilb who can stay with a rb unlike bradiie james.

That's exactly what I want and think we will end up doing. Don't know if Wade will go for a BIG DT or another penetrating type. Bit I bet we go DT and ILB early.

The thought of having a really good NT playing next to Watt, who will be getting game planned for constantly, makes me drool :)

The way I see it , there are five major area's of need (before we factor in losses in FA) , two on offense and three on defense. RT and WR ..... ILB and NT/DT and the 3rd safety.

The defense was riddled with injury all year .... Cody and Jamison up front (im forgetting someone here) , Cushing , Sharpton , Dobbins , Reed and James all missed time at LB while J.Jo , McCain and Ball missed time in the secondary and was really good when healthy.

The offense was relatively injury free all season .... they looked good early but faded late because A) they couldnt run the ball , B) They lack a WR that can stretch the field (Posey probably doesnt factor into next season at all) and C) Schaub , which I blame the lisfranc for his issues.

I think they have to spend some premium picks on the offense on both skill positions and the line as they are old , slow or lacking talent all over the field.
While the defense should get better by getting healthy ...

Im looking at WR and RT with the first two picks while adding ILB , S , NT and a pass rusher in no particular order later (you can add a QB somewhere along the way)

I see where you are coming from and I wouldn't be upset at all if we ended up going that route. I just don't see it that way. I think the OL is going to come together quickly after they decide who is the permanent starter. They weren't as bad as some make it out to be. Actually they played pretty well considering their age and experience and the fact that they were getting swapped out seemingly every other game.

IMO once the OL gels it will solve a lot of the offensive woes of this season. The way I see the defense is that there are weak spots with shady depth. Fix them and we are elite. ILB has no depth whatsoever. Really other than Cushing who is coming off a manor injury we have nothing. This defense is built around the LB's. the better they are the better the defense will be. Then there is the DT. Cody has never been more than a plug in. Now he has back problems and is getting old. Mitchell is only slightly better than a healthy Cody. He should never be more than a backup. I really believe if we fill those two spots with high quality players and we are there.

Another reason I want to crank up the defense is that I don't see us out scoring the top offenses by adding more weapons on offense and only filling in the blanks with average guys on defense. At least not as long as Schaub is our QB. I can see us becoming a team with a Dominating defense and a solid offense that doesn't need to score a ton to win similar to the Ravens.
