Super Bowl Trivia

Showtime100

Got JJ?
I figured this might be a fun topic. I'm interested to know what strange or unusual trivia is out there. I'll roll the ball and see how far it goes........

If you went to Super Bowl I and all you had was $10, you could walk up to the gate and buy a ticket (avg $6 according to a show I just heard) and probably have enough for a hot dog, large soda/beer, and a parking pass.

Both NBC and CBS showed the game live, but taped over the game to save money, leaving no film record of the game in its entirety, the cockknockers.

Super Bowl over/under - over 24 times, under 23 times....
NFC teams are 11-5 in indoor Super Bowls....
The team with the most rushing yards in the Super Bowl is 38-10....
Heads has landed 24 times, tails 24....

Demaryius Thomas broke the Super Bowl record for receptions last year. Who had set the prior record?

Without looking, Jerruh.

Partially correct, shared record - Jerry Rice, Dan Ross, Deion Branch and Wes Welker.

Remembered Welker shared it but had to look up with who.

Someone will get this one easily: who is the only player from the non-winning team to win SB MVP?

Not looking it up...

It was a defensive player from Dallas wasn't it? When they lost to the Colts. Can't think of his name, proving I didn't look it up.

Help?

Chuck Howley, MLB in Superbowl V I think. But I could be wrong.

ps I promise I posted this before reading post 10. And yes, I was a Cowboys fan back then.

No clue, but my WAG would be Lechler in '02.
The number is more important (to me) than the punter -- probably put you off track w/my hint. More random than Lechler.

Funny no one knows last year's MVP. I couldn't recall.

Add: Most turnovers by one team in a SB? Number/team.

Malcolm Smith - lol. As a Super Bowl gambler I've got that one covered. He is 100/1 to repeat his feat this year and retain the MVP crown.

I was going to guess either Earl Thomas or Kam Chancellor because their defense dominated that game. I looked it up and found that it was a Linebacker that only has 37 tackles this year and 129 in his four years with the Seahawks. Pretty random selection for MVP.

What's the record for punts in a SB? Hint: local connection.

14? Matt Turk?
11 Brad Maynard, N.Y. Giants vs. Baltimore, XXXV

Close enough, 9 Buffalo vs. Dallas, XXVII

Off the top of my head I think he had 2 ints, and one of them returned for a TD at a point where the game was still quite close.

Ahhh - almost. Just looked it up - the TD return was to make it 22-0, and he also recovered a fumble later in the game (not a 2nd INT though).

He had a pick-6 and a fumble recovery to go with nine tackles in the game. He had a good game but it's probably the only one he's had in his career to this point. :kitten:

Haha - yeah. 2 career interceptions in 4 seasons - 1 of them goes 69 yards the other way in the Super Bowl.

I'll take it!
