Super Bowl LI discussion

First, when this type of thread can be placed in the Texans Talk forum that will be a great sight to see.

Now...my initial thoughts...to echo sentiments in the AFCCG thread, I would love to see the Pats win...I'm a big fan of greatness and those guys are great. The greatest. Plus to see Goodell hand them the trophy...I'm going to save and record just that moment if it happens...

And even though I'd love to see the pats win, it would be great to see the Falcons take it as well. Either way the pats legacy is cemented. Win-win for me regardless of outcome especially because I think this is going to be a heat game with plays being made on both sides of the ball.

Right now, I'd have to give the pats the edge. Even when they've lost in conference championships or super bowls it's been close. Belichick is going to be prepared. This is a huge game for them to even further their greatness.

I can't wait to watch this game. Absoulutely the most anticipated game for me this year.

I'd like to see Ryan get #1 before Brady gets #5 but this just lines up too perfectly with the Goodell/deflategate fiasco. It seems like destiny for him to get that thrown in his face on national TV right after the game and I for one cannot wait.

I was literally shocked that they beat the second best team in the AFC by 19 points.

An I wrong? Was there another team that had a chance to beat the Patriots? The Chiefs?

I don't think so.

Same for the Falcons. They beat the 2nd best team in the NFC by 23 points.

That's just wild.

It's going to be a heck of a Super Bowl.

I'm tempted to try to go to this one.
As long as I don't have to take out a loan to buy a ticket....

Once I got over the relief yesterday that it wasn't us getting blown out in the championship game, I began to warm to the idea of the "other teams" and I will be rooting for the Falcons. Both teams are exciting to watch, but it's just something about the Falcons that would please me to seem them win the Lombardi. At any rate, I plan to have a super Super Bowl week. Ticket prices probably increased again, and barring a miracle I will be at someone's SB party.

I need to look at the calendar of events for the SB and decide the days I can attend. I will find time to go to the NFL Experience at GRB, would like to go to opening ceremonies which I did last time the SB was here. I also plan to attend the gospel concert at Lakewood. Although it isn't part of Super Bowl, since I purchased a ticket months ago, I will attend Yo-Yo Ma concert on Saturday evening and while downtown, spend some time with the Super Bowl crowd after the concert. I would also like to attend some of the players autograph appearances so that I can enhance my sports memorabilia area. Last time there were appearances at many of the Academy stores and other stores throughout the city.

Like I was with the Final Four, I feel bad for the cops that have to round up all the homeless people and hide them from the national media. I will enjoy the tourism news that all the local stations will have. Days of no one being robbed or murdered.

Hope the Falcons roll, can't stand the Pats.

I cannot stand the Cheatriots. Just the thought of them winning a SB in our stadium makes me nauseous. Go Falcons!

Both teams have great offenses. Patriots have been there before and have the experience from a lot of big post season games including one SB win.

Patriots have a pretty strong defense to try and contain the ATL offense, and I think they should have more luck in doing that than the ATL defense will be able to do against the Patriots.

Patriots should be able to hold off the Falcons to about 23 points or so I think. Pats should score around 32 or 34 possibly.

Last I heard they were like $3,800 for nose bleeds.

When they first came to Houston against Carolina, I remember almost buying a ticket for $1,000 back then.

I wouldn't do it though man. You're not a big fan of either team. Take that money and go to some spot like Bora Bora, South Africa, or Switzerland for 10 or 12 days. You'll remember that a lot more than one game at NRG.

Watching Matt Schaub win a Super Bowl ring as the Falcons backup quarterback would make me feel a little bittersweet. Sort of like when David Carr won a Super Bowl ring as the Giants backup quarterback when they had defeated Tom Brady and the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

I felt bad enough seeing our old coaching staff (Gary Kubiak and Wade Phillips) along with tight end Owen Daniels, winning the Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos last year. I don't need my face rubbed in that bitterness again this year.

I may just cheer for Tom Brady to win his 5th Super Bowl...
Sadly, it is what it is. Cheaters or not, they got the job done fair and square this year.

I saw something on Twitter the other day, Monday morning matter of fact. Largest transaction on StubHub Monday was for 83K...6 front row seats, 30 yard line. Almost 14K a ticket. As Tyson would say, "that's ludicrous"

That we know of. We only know about when cheaters get caught. We have no idea of what cheating tactics they have done and gotten away with. For all we know, they bugged the visiting locker room.

My only thought at the moment is if New England wins the only Super Bowl Champions to walk out of the games in Houston belong to the AFC East. Not much of a trivia question, but it's all I got...lol.

Carr was a lazy ***** who had his daddy interfering with practice - last in, first out. Seeing him get a ring annoys me. Schaub gave all he had for us, dude was the league leading passer with Eric Winston and no run game. Haynesworth's highlight of his record breaking contract was telling the media how Schaub yelled when his foot was turned into an accordion. His injury combined with impossibly bad luck made Schaub look like a failure, but he was top 10 until then. There is no ill will from me towards Schaub, he did all we asked of him and he worked his butt off for this city. If he gets a ring, good for him for AGAIN working his butt off to make it.

AMEN

I knew someone was going to say that. I should have qualified it by "another" SB in our stadium obviously

Brady is pretty lights out in our stadium.

I have hard time looking at this match up and seeing them lose.

Any Guven Sunday always applies though.

The only thing that gives me hope is that every time I watch the Falcons play I wonder, "Are they really this good?" They make it look so easy and don't go about it in a flashy way. I'm hoping they can sneak up on the Pats and take their lunch money

I've never liked the two-week wait for the Super Bowl. It messes teams up and is completely unnecessary. I know, all about the money.

Looks like perfect weather this weekend in Houston, especially Sunday. Sunny with low humidity. Perfect. Next Sunday, maybe not so much. You can't predict the weather years in advance, but still a wasted perfect weekend, weather-wise.

The Falcons offense can score with the best of them. The Patriots have the #1 scoring defense but I wonder how much that will come into play with the Falcons being tied with New England in committing the fewest turnovers in the NFL. I question if the Falcons defense can stop Tom Brady but I also had my doubts that they could stop Aaron Rodgers and they held him to 0 points in the 1st half. This doesn't have an any given sunday feel like the NE/NYG game years ago. It has more of a 'which defense can stop the other team?' feel. I would loan Atlanta our defense for a week if it meant the Patriots would lose this game.

Falcons have quite a few young players that will be experiencing the bright lights all week of the media and the whole circus shibang. This Pats team has been there before. They'll used to it. I always hear players say in interviews how their week sometimes didn't go well in the SB week due to their entire structure changing because you head over to that city a week early instead of the day before. I think the Pats take this.

Still can't believe the Pats sent Jamie Collins to Cleveland for a late 3rd. Seems like they might miss his skills on the edge in this one. Gonna be tough to contain the Falcons RBs.

It is not often as football fans that we have a chance to witness true historical greatness. Brady and Belichick winning no. 5 would certainly be that kind of once-in-a-lifetime chance to see such greatness.

I have always liked Brady since 2001. His story is truly legendary, especially back when he got the start and all the media talking heads were predicting the end of pocket passers. Guys like Vick, McNabb, Culpepper, were all the rage, the so-called "prototype QB" that was to be the future of football, and nobody would ever stand in the pocket throwing passes anymore. That was their exact predictions. Fast forward 16 years later, and not only were they wrong in their assumptions, none of the trends emerged. Running QBs are prone to injuries due to their style, so they never mature into passing QBs that have the cerebral game that you see with guys like Brady, Manning, and even a Matt Ryan.

I'm not a Pats fan, but I'm not a hater in any sort of way. I'm rooting for history with this game. Let's see it!

I am conditioned to always root for the AFC in Superbowls, but the more I chew it over the more I see myself hoping the Falcons kick the crap out the Patriots.

Hoping for a high scoring competitive game.

Falcons win 45-42

I'm just tired of seeing former Texans win the Super Bowl when it should be us! And I did mention it was "bittersweet" to me. I was in favor of keeping Matt Schaub around by the way. I never booed him when he sucked that final year here, throwing a pick six literally every other game, when so many of you others booed him, talked trash about him and even burned his jersey (not saying you in particular). I also wanted Gary Kubiak, Wade Phillips and Owen Daniels to stay too. I supported them while they were here when many others didn't.

Patriots 27, Falcons 17

Got a feeling it's going to be a lot less scoring than people are expecting.

Same score as Super Bowl 30 (Cowboys vs. Steelers).
I was just watching the re-run of that game on NFL Films.
Wow, where did the past 21 years go? The time flew by fast.
That game seemed like yesterday when it was played.

I was bartending during that game. We had a contest to see who could predict the score or get closest. Winner got a Cowboys t-shirt, free drinks for the day, and $100 cash. My prediction was 27-17 Dallas and people were so dumb they thought since I was working there the contest was rigged...lol.

The free drinks were used after my shift. The cash was spent pretty much within 24 hours, and the Cowboys shirt was used when I ran out of toilet paper. :D

I'm rooting for the Falcons. It's become redundant watching the Patriots. I appreciate greatness. I appreciate all the work and innovation and talent that goes into these championship runs. I can only see a show so many times though before losing interest though.

I could care less if Brady gets his 5th win or not. History? Impressive? Yep. Just doesn't move my meter much. What I would like to see is a replay of the last Super Bowl played in Houston. Only this time Matt Bryant kicks the 41 yd FG to win the game, 32-29.

I don't have a dog in the fight. Not much of a fan of either team but I'm a fan of football, so I'll watch. I like rooting for the underdog, so I'll be quietly hoping the Falcons win. What has there been, 10 playoff games so far, and all but ONE have been ho-hummers. Let's hope the SB isn't a Ho-Hummer.

Many people here in Orange, TX are rooting for Matt Bryant to kick the winning field goal.

I'm rooting for another "wardrobe malfunction"

If the Falcons win it will be another team and city that wins a Super Bowl before Houston did. At least that's the way I look at it. If the Patriots win they'll win a fifth Super Bowl with Tom Brady. To me it's like so what? It could have been six or seven but he lost to Eli Manning and the Giants twice in the Super Bowl.

I've handled the Pats success before so why not now? It does sting a little more because they beat the Texans in the divisional round but I'm over it already. We competed for a half with the best team (down 17-13). That's the best we could do. And plus a lot of our coaching staff has ties to the New England Patriots. I can't help but think they are like our big brother in some ways.

NRG Stadium may as well be named Tom Brady Stadium.
He has a chance to win two of his Super Bowls here in H-Town!

It's probably because my favorite professional teams (Texans/Astros) have never won a championship before, but when I see a team in that same boat in the Super Bowl, I tend to root for them. I have no interest watching dynasties repeat every year.

I don't have a dog in this fight so I don't care who wins. I just want a good game and for this event to be over and gone from Houston. I never thought I'd be anxious and eager for Monday to get here.
