The Super Bowl XLVIII committee has spoken: There will be no tailgating allowed at MetLife Stadium on Feb. 2, 2014 prior to the NFL’s championship game.

Committee CEO Al Kelly told ESPN.com’s Jane McManus: “You will be allowed to have food in your car and have drink in you car. And provided you’re in the boundaries of a single parking space, you’ll be able to eat or drink right next to your car. However you’re not going to be able to take out a lounge chair, you’re not going to be able to take out a grill and you’re not going to be able to take up more than one parking space.”

Kelly also revealed more plans for the logistics of this season’s Super Bowl, and they’re somewhat unusual. Fans will not be allowed to to park and walk to the East Rutherford, N.J. stadium; nor will they be able to arrive via taxi or limo, because only vehicles with parking passes will be allowed near the premises.

Say Whaaaaaaa????

Since when does the wine and cheese crowd of the Super Bowl have interest in tailgating outdoors in February in New York?

won't most everyone be arriving mass transit anyway?

I remember when the Texans limited the amount of people in the parking lot it used to be badass felt like Woodstock every week

now its kinda sad :kitten:

but obvs I know why they did it to many people mixed with beer = bad news plus all the inmates and gangs there sonner or later someone would end up shot or stabbed over a debate over football LOL in not like the checked u for weapons at the gates

My favorite line.

“You will be allowed to have food in your car and have drink in you car."

At least we know why the Texans chose to stink it up this season. They didn't want to play in NY in February

That sounds like the Oilers tailgating policy when they were in Houston. I remember pass a football in the parking lot before an Oilers game and the security guy told us to get inside the 'dome or leave the parking lot immediately.
