Steelers Dan Rooney dead at 84

What did he do? Inherit a team.

His daddy did a lot.

Well he did a lot for minority coaches with the Rooney rule. Before the Rooney rule minority coaches almost never got interviewed.. so there's that.

Also his Dad was just the figure head.. Dan started running the day to day operations in 1969 and was credited as the one who personally selected Chuck Noll as Head Coach and Bill Cowher (2 HOF coaches). From 1972 and on the Steelers won 15 divisional titles, 8 AFC championships, and 6 SBs

Was he born into wealth, yes, but he did more for the Steelers than his Daddy ever did and made them what they are today. Before Dan Rooney took over, they were Much MUCH worse than the Texans, Browns, and old Bucs. The only playoff appearance that they had in franchise history was in 1947 and it wasn't even a clean playoff berth, it was a tiebreaker game to get into the payoffs against the Philadelphia Eagles..which they lost 21-0.. The Steelers success is directly tied to the Dan Rooney era.

I hope Cal can accomplish 10% of what Dan Rooney did when he inherits the Texans.

He was a good guy. Everyone that has ever worked for the Steelers has positive things to say about the man. He actually cared about his players and made it a point to get to know them as individuals. It was more than just a profitable business to him.
