RD1 DaQuan Bowers DE Clemson- Solves the pass rush problem. Bowers is an all around DE who can really rush the passer and is the perfect bookend for MW. 2nd choice Aron Williams CB UT

RD2 Von Miller OLB TX.A&M- Miller can really rush the passer. He has great quickness off the edge. His numbers have fallen off this yr due to an ankle injury and he's being asked to drop into coverage more but has proven to be adept at it. 2nd choice Mark Herzlich LB BC

RD3 Deunta Williams FS North Carolina- Simply put he would be the best FS in franchise history. Great in coverage, also good in run support. Is a good hitter. 2nd Choice Amahad Black FS Fla.

RD4 Sharece Wright DB USC- Only reason Wright is availabe is because of his injury history. He also has had some academic problems. Wright is on par as a cover CB with K.Jackson and only fell this far because of the above mentioned issues. I would trade up to get Wright if I had too. 2nd choice Adrain Taylor OKLA.

RD5 Will Hill FS FLA- FLA has the best S tandem in the country. IMHO Hill is a fast playmaking S who only needs experience to become a starter. But has alot of ability. The Texans will be lucky if Hill falls this far. But a Hill, Williams S tandem would be a great young playmaking tandem. It would solve a problem this team has had at the S positon since this teams inception. 2nd choice Colby Whitlock DT TTU (Never can have enough former wrestlers at DT)

RD6 Alex Wujciak ILB Maryland- Smart instinctive playmaking MLB that has good speed and is a sideline to sideline type of guy. Will be a great ST guy. 2nd Choice Casey Matthews ILB Oregon- you cant go wrong drafting a Matthews as a LB.

RD7 Eddie Jones DE UT- Jones has shown potential as a pass rusher. He's a developmental guy. But has shown he can come off the edge.
2nd choice James Dockery CB Ore. St.

These guys can put pressure on the QB. Something the Texans have lacked this season and are playmakers. This draft would seriously upgrade the Texans defense and the later rd picks would immediately upgrade the ST's at the very least and you might get lucky and find a diamond in the rough or two in the later rds.

Let the critquing begin.

Enjoyed the post and my thoughts are
1. Has speed and skills but has not impressed me so far and is living off his freshman season. Low 2nd round selection maybe a 3rd. like your CB pick here better. Since you did not identify where I am looking at 20-25.

2. I was a big Miller fan last draft but he did not come out. May be more of a 3-4 guy. I would not go LB this high.

3. Williams in third would be a steal. He should start cranking up soon from the suspension. Not interested in Black & reminds me of Brice McCain.

4. No way no how and for just the reason you mention. He is on par with KJ as a cover and KJ is not a cover CB.

5 Hill and D. Williams are true FS and playing both at same time would be interesting but don't see it happening. I'd like to try it, especially if Nolan still on roster.

What, no DT?

In your opinion, could we afford to do a all-defense draft? I can't see at this point why not...Although a beefier center would be nice..

IMO, yes. On my bye week mock, I go all defense except for QB in 3rd. I did originally have a CB there but we need a back up to train to help Matt.
Texans must turn this thing around soon.

I almost went all defense (http://www.texanstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76896) but had to include a big nasty interior offensive lineman.

watched Bowers but left unimpressed, will need to see more technique/effort from the guy before I would sign off a 1st rd. grade. not a big fan or Herzlich or Von Miller (injured). Wright had a tough day against Oregon but who doesn't? FS talent needs to be rated higher to have immediate impact. Casey will probably be gone by 6th so Wujciak would still be available which I have no problem with. Another DE & no DT help?

I agree with the rest of the people here. I think the Texans' draft will be close to all D, with maybe one or two picks on O. That is what the mock I am working on looks like.

I've studied Bowers closely, He can rush the passer and has a bunch of TFL's (Cant find the stats) He also plays the run well and usually plays the strong side DE. He had a bas year last yr due to a lower leg injury. He seems to have bounced back to his frehman yr level this yr. If there weren't concerns about Bowers he would be a top 10 pick. Talent wise he's a top 10 pick.IMHO

Miller supplies a playmaker to pair with Cushing and has proven that he is adequate in coverage this yr. In addition to his obvius pass rushing skills. Herzlich would've been a top 10 pick except for the cancer. With that said I expect him to be much better as a a pro next yr than this yr. He will have had another yr to get stronger after chemo treatments.
A LB corps of Cushing Ryans and Herzlich or Miller should be dominate in both the run and pass. The 2nd level would have playmakers everywhere.

I would be OK giving up the Wright pick for Taylor. I just didn't find value in taking a DT at the 20/25 pick in this draft in any rd. Taylor is the only DT I saw value in at the position he was picked.

I'm also ready to finally draft 1 or 2 S with potential. I'm tired of seeing no help over the top.

I think the Texans have huge holes at rushing the passer. LB and as always the S position. This mock fills those needs. I also agre that a DT needs to be added. (Maybe in FA)

I went to the A&M game this weekend and watched Tech go down. Gotta say though, Von Miller wasn't much good in coverage. He's great against the run and pressuring the QB, but he couldn't cover any of the underneath routes. He's there to make a tackle once the receiver catches the ball and takes one step, but he was never in a position to deflect the ball or make the QB look another way.

Thanks for the update.

I just want the Texans to be able to get pressure on the passer for once. Glad to know he is a force against the run. With his deficiencies against the run he should fit in well with the Texans defense.

This is Millers 1st season where he has been asked to cover the pass. He has the speed and quickness to improve against the pass.

If Miller was as good against the pass as he is rushing the passer/defending the run he would've been a rop 15 pick.

This deficiency is what will cause him to fall to the 2nd rd. But the good news is that the talent is there for improvement.

can't sign off all defense, need to add a big nasty OG, Center & OT :rake:

Agreed

Every team has a dominate side of the ball.

Which side of the ball is the Texans. Lets include ST's

This is the Texans problem. They chase filling holes in the draft instead of making ome side of the ball dominate.

After 5 yrs you would think they would be better than they were tonight.

When is the time to ask questions about this team and the failures in how they were put together?

makes you wanna throw your hands in the air & act like you just don't care :runaway:

I'm no longer sure this team can be fixed via the draft, I mean they have some talent but do they maximize their abilities & develop them into great NFL players? Jeff Fisher does, late round picks, unwanted free agents doesn't matter he get's the most out of his available talent, Im :pissed:

Hey, are you critizising the way I dance? Yes, the O needs help but at least looks like a presentable offense stats wise even if did not show it against Colts 2. I just can not figure out this team or it's coach. Major effort needs to go to D this off season to at least bring it up to par. The defense did look better than the O last night but still left me angry. When your SS can only attack the LOS and not cover, well he better do that well and Pollard did not.
