Texans trade DW4 and a 2022 3rd to the Jets for Picks 2/23/34/Quinnen Williams/Sam Darnold and a 2022 1st

Texans trade Sam Darnold to the Washington Redskins for pick # 19.

Rd1/2 Zack Wilson, QB BYU- Most like Mahomes in this draft, can make all of the throws/great accuracy/toughness. Needs to show he can do it against top competition.

Rd.1/19 Zavien Collins LB/DE Tulsa- This guy can rush the passer very well and has the ability to cover too. Bednarik winner does all things well and his best football should be ahead of him.

Rd.1/22 Ifeatu Melifonu- Big rangy CB with great length/speed. Gets his head around and play the ball. Great at defending the 50/50 balls.

Rd.2/34 Jabril Cox- ILB LSU, Great leader, can defend both the pass and the run. Has the speed to be the perfect MLB in Lovie's scheme.

Rd. 3 Ellerson Smith DE Northern Iowa- Tall rangey slim DE with great 1st step. Reminds me of Jason Taylor coming out of college.

Rd.4 Keith Taylor CB Washington- Another big tall rangy CB with good speed. Plays the deep ball well and is very sticky with WR's. He will get beat on slant routes by quicker smaller WR's. Doesn't have good hands 0 career ints at Washington. I would trade up to get this guy if I had too, he really impressed me at the Sr Bowl.

Rd.4 Anthony Schwartz WR Auburn- Fastest guy in the draft, Malzahan used him like Reid uses Hill, Screen/Jet sweeps/deep balls etc... He's got surprisingly good hands. A threat to score every time he touches the ball.

Rd. 4 (Trade alert using the high 5th and high 6th) Kylin Hill RB Miss St. Well rounded RB that can catch/block as well as run hard. Was 1st team all SEC 2 yrs ago.

Rd.6 Bryan Robinson RB Alabama- Big bruising RB that's surprisingly agile. Has a nose for the goal line. Questionable pass catching/pro skills.

Rd.6 BJ Foster S Texas- Top tier recruit coming out of HS. Herman screwed him over but the talent is still there.

Rd.7- Grant Hermanns OT Purdue- Has played LT/RT at Purdue, fairly nimble for a big guy. Developmental OT, has had injury issues in the past but has talent.

Texans roster

QB's Wilson/McCarron
RB's Hill/Robinson/Howell/Phillips
OL Tunsil/Scharping/Fulton/Howard/Heck/Hermanns/Qvale/Johnson

TE's Akins/Brown/Fells/Warring

WR's Cooks/Cobb/Hanson/Coutee/Schwartz

Defense

DE's Ohmenihu/Ellerson Smith/J. Martin/Watkins (Watt is traded or Cut)

DT's Williams/Blacklock/Hall/Alufohai

LB's Cunningham/Cox/Collins/Adams/Kalambayi/Greenard/Emannuel/Cole

CB's Roby/Melifonu/Taylor/John Reid/Gaines/Brandon Williams/Crossen

Safties- Reid/Murray/Foster/LoJo

This team would be so much faster and if you hit on Wilson you would be set up in the next 3 yrs to be true contenders.

Rd1/2 ZACK WILSON, QB BYU, 6'3" 215 - Call him a one-year wonder if you must, but Zach Wilson's ascent isn't near the same as Joe Burrow's a season ago. Wilson was out here earning an 80.5 overall grade as a true freshman in 2018 while leading a team full of adults at BYU. A shoulder injury and hand injury limited him in 2019 before he lit college football on fire this past fall. Blessed with a snappy right arm, Wilson has thrown passes as far as 65 yards through the air this season (against WKU, to be exact) with little more than a flick. He can not only make all the throws, but he can also make them accurately.
(4) Future Franchise QB 😈 || BYU QB Zach Wilson 2020 Highlights ᴴᴰ - YouTube

Rd.1/19 TREVON MOEHRIG - S TCU, 6'2" 202 - No safety in college football has made more plays on the ball over the past two seasons than Moehrig. He led all safeties in pass breakups in both 2019 (12) and 2020 (eight). You already see his size (6-foot-2, 202 pounds) and length come into play — he can get all the way to the catch point closing in from behind receivers. He played a ton of split field coverage in TCU's defense, which often left him manned up on opposing slot receivers, and he excused himself admirably. There's little to dislike about Moehrig.
(4) Trevon Moehrig - Best Safety in College Football ᴴᴰ - YouTube

Rd.1/22 CARLOS BASHAM JR - DE WAKE FOREST, 6'5" 285 - Basham is a bit of an enigma. He has the physical tools of a bull-rush specialist, but a majority of his best reps are swim moves. He rarely goes to a true bull rush or long arm. There's a good chance some coach will get in his ear at the next level and unlock the special physicality he possesses. You can't coach a 6-foot-5, 285-pound man to fly around the field the way Basham does. Even though his efficiency took a bit of a step back in a different role this season, Basham beat up left tackles for 112 pressures between his sophomore and junior seasons.
(4) "BOOGIE" 💥 || Wake Forest DE Carlos Basham Jr. Highlights ᴴᴰ - YouTube

Rd.2/34 TYSON CAMPBELL - CB GEORGIA, 6'2" 190 - Movement skills are king at the cornerback position, and Campbell has those. At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Campbell can flip his hips with the best of 'em. While the high-end is there, the low-end we saw this season will scare evaluators. Nearly half of his 340 yards allowed this season came in one game against Alabama (162 yards). Alabama's receivers certainly got the best of a lot of cornerbacks, but that's what every game will be like for Campbell next season. Ultimately, he looks like an ideal fit for a press-zone-heavy team with his length and tackling prowess.
(4) Tyson Campbell || Georgia Bulldogs Defensive Back || Career Highlights - YouTube

Rd. 3 JAVONTE WILLIAMS - RB NORTH CAROLINA, 5'11" 220 - There was no bigger riser at the running back position in 2020 than Williams. After putting on 15 pounds in two years, Williams added an explosive element to his game we hadn't seen in the past. He broke the PFF record for broken tackles per attempt (0.48), and his 75 broken tackles led the country. His 95.9 rushing grade was also far and away the highest we've seen in a single season. That elusiveness translated after the catch as a receiver as well, where he broke nine tackles on 24 receptions. There's really not much to dislike about Williams as a prospect. (Shades of Earl Campbell)
(4) ACC’s BREAKOUT Star 🌟 || North Carolina RB Javonte Williams 2020 Highlights ᴴᴰ - YouTube

Rd 4 MARLON TUIPULOTU - DL USC, 6'3" 305 - In terms of sheer draft hype, Tuipulotu had played second fiddle to fellow defensive tackle Jay Tufele for much of his career. That is until Tufele opted out and Tuipulotu looked like a different player rushing the passer in 2020. His hand usage took a massive step forward, and he developed multiple ways to affect opposing quarterbacks. While that's unlikely to be his game at the NFL level, it's still nice to see he won't be wholly incapable in that regard. Tuipulotu will be a versatile run defender who can hold his own anywhere between the tackles.
(4) USC Marlon Tuipulotu “51 LOADING” - YouTube

Rd 4 SETH WILLIAMS - WR AUBURN, 6'3" 211 - Williams' numbers didn't improve in 2020, but his stock definitely rose a bit as he trimmed down and added a little shiftiness to his game. He went from 224 pounds as a sophomore to 211 pounds this year and showed much better as a separator. Unfortunately, he still had Bo Nix throwing him the ball and was subjected to one of the lowest catchable pass rates in the country. Williams has to shoulder some of the blame, as his ball skills aren't as dominant as you'd like to see from a bigger receiver. He dropped 16 of 148 catchable passes in his career.
(4) Most UNDERRATED WR in the SEC || Auburn WR Seth Williams Highlights ᴴᴰ - YouTube

Rd 4 BARON BROWNING - LB OHIO ST, 6'3" 240 - The former five-star recruit has always had the physical tools, but until this year he was more liability than difference-maker for the Ohio State defense. You could see the wheels turning in real time in years past, but this year saw a noticeable uptick in his play speed. The team simplified his role in the defense, and his natural ability flourished — to a degree. He still only earned a 71.8 overall grade. The one area he continues to intrigue is as a pass-rusher. His size and athleticism is tailor made for the edge, which would alleviate processing speed issues.

Rd 6 FOSTER SARRELL - OT STANFORD, 6'6" 315 -
(4) Foster Sarell Ultimate Highlights - YouTube

Rd 6 DAVIS MILLS - QB STANFORD, 6'4" 225 - After sitting on the bench for two seasons at Stanford, Mills finally got the call when K.J. Costello went down with an injury in 2019. He played well enough to force Costello to transfer for the 2020 season. However, he didn't quite take a significant next step in his development in 2020 on a limited sample. A former top recruit, Mills has a lot of prototypical pocket-passer traits. With how swiftly he operated Stanford's offense, it's easy to see him being able to handle an NFL one. That said, he still makes too many sloppy decisions and offers nothing out of structure.
(4) Davis Mills Junior Season Highlights. The DARKHORSE of the 2021 QB class. “Tyler Herro” Jack Harlow - YouTube

Rd 7 SADARIUS HUTCHERSON - OG SOUTH CAROLINA, 6'4" 320 - Hutcherson has come a long way since he first started seeing playing time as a freshman in 2017. Back then, his technique was little more than "try like hell to stay in front of the guy you're supposed to block." A former Bruce Feldman's Freaks List honoree, that part isn't difficult for Hutcherson. But even after refining his craft over the past few years, he still struggles to sustain blocks. The fact that we've seen improvement, though, should be encouraging for anyone taking a flyer on Hutcherson.

I like the idea of a trade with the Jets. I would go one step further and trade down with the 1.2 selection. I would ask a 2nd and 3rd this year and a 2022 1st. The QB I would be targeting is Kyle Trask, an excellent fit for a WC/Erhardt-Perkins offense. He's a pure pocket passer with an excellent arm in the short to medium range. Has only average arm strength for the deep ball, but throws the deep ball with touch and, in college, with few interceptions. I'd have him sit his rookie year.

Rd.6 Bryan Robinson RB Alabama- Big bruising RB that's surprisingly agile. Has a nose for the goal line. Questionable pass catching/pro skills.
Brian Robinson is returning to Bama for the 2021 season.

Rd.6 BJ Foster S Texas- Top tier recruit coming out of HS. Herman screwed him over but the talent is still there.
Also don't see where Foster entered the draft. He might be going back to UT or entering the transfer portal.

I like the raiders trading Carr for #1’s to add to trading for Watson rumor.

Make it a huge load if its going to happen!

Some questions/thoughts:

Jets second round one is 1.23 how did you get 1.19 and 1.22?

I like Basham and agree that at 1.23 Jets although Rotoworld has him at a second-rounder. My question would be is who does he bump? He is projected as a left defensive end. You are not showing a trade of JJ Watt so are you projecting him on the roster this season?

If Watt is gone like I think, Omenihu has the nod to replace JJ Watt. He is Basham. O has not peaked and is already very good with three years left and is 24. I'm not against Basham as I think he will be very good but it may be a pick we could use on another position.

CB Campbell I also like however you (PFF) say he was beat up at Alabama and he was and then go on to say that every game in 2021 will be the same? Not a roaring recommendation for a dire need pick at 2.34. I would have to have a more significant player like running back Etienne or Harris who would contribute immediately.

If you can guarantee me the guy I brought to the board Javonte Williams is ours at 3.67 where I originally mocked him, I would lock it in. The problem is I no longer see any mocks with him taken below round two. That means the 3-bath perhaps for bats running backs are already gone we have to have a starting running back somewhere. Do we risk hoping that chuba Hubbard who is also thought to be a second or early third rounder going to be at 3.67?

Just my 2 cents.. Baron Browning gone before round 4. Appreciate your effort and enjoyed the read!

I too like Trask but if I'm going to trade out of the second pick even if it's just down one pick to Miami I want a heck of a lot more than what you suggest. On the positive you should be able to get Trask much further down in a trade and increase what you get to move down.

If things pan out the way I think they will, I'll be reading up on the draft a lot more then I have in years.

Appreciate all the info from the resident draftniks. Keep it up.

Agree with everything you say. Just being conservative and going by the chart. Just to clarify, when I say 2,3 and a 2022 1, that is in addition to the 2021 1 that I'm first swapping to trade down from 1.2.

At best, Trask will likely be the 5th QB taken and at worst, the 6th. Teams like the Saints at 28, the Steelers at 24 and Indy at 21 may be giving him consideration; as well as, possibly, the Pats at 15. Wouldn't want to push it too much. But yes, I've considered the possibility of a second trade down, as well. If we are going for a total rebuild, let's get as many 1,2's and 3's in the next two drafts.

I used @steelbtexan draft positions because it is his thread. Why deviate?
I also used PFF draft grades and they had Basham at #25 and need a pass rush. The Texans DL was pitiful.
That old defensive line should look better with a decent corner or two behind it. I'm wanting Xavian Howard in a Miami trade and then perhaps Trevon Diggs in a trade down of 1.3 to Dallas. I've also posted (I think) a trade down of #3 to NYG for QB Daniel Jones + CB Julian Love + FS Xavier McKinney. A possible trade of Roby could add up to $9 million cap space. or give us a solid corner corps for first time in---forever.

I'm hoping they keep Roby not trade him. He's a quality CB on a good deal and the Texans need to add CB's not lose them. However if you truly want to tank and could get a 1st for Roby then I could get onboard with that.

I'm for that, I would take a 2nd. Texans are going to suck throughout his contract. He would bring $8MM in cap relief in 2021 and $10MM in 2022.

I was excited to get him but no longer a fan. PFF has him at 72 for 2020 but he allowed 23 of 37 targets or about 62% catches if math correct. He has played in ten games last two years & $10.25 is reasonable for a starting corner but not for what he provides. Just my opinion. If we get X in a trade I'm concerned Roby will be exposed as all teams will gun for him. If we could get a round one, I'd be :smiliedance:

I'd be extremely shocked if someone traded a 1st for Darnold!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If as rumored Wentz is going to the Bears for two 1sts a contender like the Redskins that thinks they're a QB away will most likely trade away a 1st for Darnold. It's not like the guys not talented. I know that the 49ers really liked Darnold the yr he came out in the draft. You think the Colts wouldn't like to get Darnold? It's a sellers QB market this yr.

I think a few teams would be interested in Darnold. But to garner enough interest to warrant a 1st round pick!? I highly doubt it. But then again, I would have never thought Stafford go for as much as he did... so what do I know.

I'm counting on playoff teams that are needy getting desperate. The Bears and Rams were the 1st to set the market. (Hopefully)

Alot of the cost of these trades will have to do with trading more than usual for cap relief.

Nice job and obviously well researched.
One thing I would do different is keep JJ Watt. His leadership and mentorship would be invaluable in getting the defense up to speed quickly. I reckon the young guys would run through brick walls for him and I still think he would make any defense in this league better by his being there - including Texans.

You think the Colts wouldn't like to get Darnold? It's a sellers QB market this yr.
Stafford played on a crap team. But put up big numbers over an extended period of time. Darnold has never put up numbers, and is thought to be a part of the problem with the Jets. It's not just any QB that has value. Also remember, Darnold has only one year left on his deal, plus the 5th year option that has to be exercised this spring. That 5th year option will be around $25 million.

Who is going to give a 1st round pick for Darnold knowing that? Think more like Josh Rosen trade compensation (late 2nd).

Mostly agree, but one can't help think that Colts Oline may be just what the doctor ordered.
It would be very Belichekian of Patriots snagging him and molding him into a competant QB as well - and they also have a decent line and great coaching. I could see him blossoming there.

You may be right, but I could see a bidding war breaking out between the Redskins/49ers for Darnold.I could also see Darnold starting next yr for the Texans and the Texans drafting Wilson.

My question is if the Texans got Darnold would you be good with trading Darnold to the Colts for their 2021 1st?

I just explained that it's not happening. You're trading for a player that's on an expiring contract. Again, no one is paying Darnold $25 million in 2022. The more I think about it, a 2nd round pick is too high to shoot for. That's why including Darnold in a Watson trade package is foolish. Let the Jets try to deal him. And good luck with that.

It's only a 2 yr deal though and if I was in say the Redskins posiion I would take that risk. It's not like Darnold doesn't have talent. He's just gotten the crap beaten out of him playing behind a bad OL on a terrible team. Kind of like Stafford but not for as many yrs.

How would you feel if Darnold landed with the Colts?

It's not like Darnold doesn't have talent.
Did I say that? Here's what a team is trading for:

Lifetime sub 60% passer
Averages 6.6 ypa
45/39 TD/INT ratio
13-25 record as starter
Averages an anemic 213 yds passing/game
Most famous for "seeing ghosts"

2021 contract - $4,604,685
2022 option - $25 million

Seeing that Bill O'Brien is no longer a GM in the NFL, who in hades is sending a 1st round draft pick for Sam "Ghosts" Darnold? Especially, a savvy GM such as Chris Ballard?

Darnold has a career 1 TD vs 6 INTs against the Patriots. There may still be teams that have some believe in Darnold. I doubt the Patriots are one of those teams.

You don't think BB wil think he can make something out of Darnold?

I'm hoping they keep Roby not trade him. He's a quality CB on a good deal and the Texans need to add CB's not lose them. However if you truly want to tank and could get a 1st for Roby then I could get onboard with that.
If we could get a round one, I'd be :smiliedance:.

I'm counting on playoff teams that are needy getting desperate. The Bears and Rams were the 1st to set the market. (Hopefully)

Alot of the cost of these trades will have to do with trading more than usual for cap relief.

The Colts are going to be players in the QB market as well. They have the cap space to fit a top flight QB in their budget.
