Stats that won the game

Mr. Big
Everyone already knows that for this offense to succeed we have to run, run, and run the ball. After that, it's a snap to play action pass, run the bootleg, and even (gulp) run the QB up the middle. Our success running the ball provides that domino effect that makes everything else work and gives you the following stats.

Texans - Run 42 Pass 23 Total 65 Colts - Run 18 Pass 27 Total 45
We ran 20 more plays

Time of Possession - Texans - 35.59 Colts - 24.01
We held the ball 11 minutes more than they did and in the 4th Q we had the ball 10:47 min. to their 4.13.

Carr can now manage the game like Kub wants without having to force the ball downfield when it's not there. I noticed they even handed off to Dayne on a few 2nd and long plays. Now that's confidence in your running game.

Special Teams needs noting as well. Out of 7 drives for the Colts, they started 5 inside the 25 yd line. We had two starting at our 39 and one in Colts territory at the 47. Dexter has been a great pickup for this team. His last return to the 39 was huge. Especially after AJ got caught holding and negated Dayne's last TD run. That one mistake could have easily lost us the game had we ended up in OT and the Colts win the coin toss. Just goes to show you that you can play a perfect game and one mistake will make the difference between winning and losing. Give us back that TD and we cruise to a win.

To beat the Colts, this team had to execute perfectly and that's what they did. Run the ball effectively, control the clock, win the field position game, no sacks, no int. and no fumbles. Sounds like a lot and it is. This was a great team effort and hats off to the players and to Kub for some great playcalling.

Next up is da Browns......think we'll be running the ball?

Just look what Manning and Harrison did when they were on the field.

Addai included.

They burned Petey and our defense.

That's how you win football games,

have some similarity of an offense, and keep their offensive weapons on the

bench!!!!!

Yup it wasn't definitely that time of possession that helped us...and the colts were still tied with us with 2 seconds left after us having the ball that long! The other thing about the run that helped our top was our 3rd down conversion 10/14. that's great but it was because most of them were 3rd and short. that's the position we need to get in. we're not going to make 10/14 3rd downs when its 3rd and 8. way to go houston!

The play calling was something I noticed as well. It looked like the game was called a little bit differently than we'd seen before. Something that stuck out in my mind was a sweep we ran with Dayne. I believe it was 3rd and 2 on their ~40 and Carr pitches it out to Dayne. I don't recall us running that play all season, much less with our big back in there. I thought it was a really good call that kept the drive going.

Exactly. With an offense like the Colts, we had to be perfect in all three phases of the game and it was still down to the wire. We still need to work on a viable passing game. The Colts have a terrible run defense which was well known, now you need some downfield passing for those teams that have a good run defense and force you to pass.
