Well he was bad here, not playing close to starter level and when asked to play special teams he said he was a 2nd round pick and 2nd round picks don't play special teams. He is on his 4th team so far, happy for him that he finally got his act together, and learned how to play safety in the NFL. But let's not act like releasing Swearinger is some ringing endorsement that our coaching staff fails to identify talent. Still have my Swearinger Texans jersey, I had high hopes for the kid when we drafted him
McNair/BOB wanted to get rid of Swearinger when 1. He stiff the trick my car dude. 2. His dog bit Clowney at 3am.

Mostly against terrible run defense teams. So it's hard to tell what would account for this.

That's when you suppose to eat right. Even the best backs in the league struggle against stout run stopping defenses.
We must have added a couple of high round draft picks last week.
I think there were a few things that might have helped get Swearinger out of here but refusing to play Special Teams is what I remember being the "final straw" if you will. BOB wasn't going to put up with that!

Entering the bout with Miami, Deshaun Watson had been sacked 26 times and hit 68 times (most in the NFL). BUT, against the Dolphins, Watson wasn't sacked and was hit only once. What a remarkable turnaround.
The offense had 427 total yards and 42 points thanks to five passing touchdowns from Watson. On the ground, Lamar Miller continued to play well and finished with 18 attempts for 133 yards and a score against his former team. After weeks of being maligned as one of the worst O-lines in the NFL it's finally good to see a write up about their improvement. The only mistake I could see in the article about the Texans was that they had Davenport mislabeled as a RT instead of a LT. This might have been done by accident since Davenport played RT for a few games and had some of his most "memorable" (awful) games there and that's what sticks in peoples minds. Hopefully their good play will continue and they improve every game. It's probably the biggest key to them continuing to win.

No QB -QB backup controversy but what about RG when Fulton returns if Mancz continues his play? Will one of them replace Kelemete?
I remember yelling when Swear made a good play then almost immediately make a totally stupid one often leading to losing yardage.

I really like how the interior of this OL is coming together. Starters and quality depth are beginning to surface. OT's will still be needed and should be addressed in the draft.
Something interesting worth mentioning, both Fanspeak and First Pick NFL Draft Simulators now have the Texans drafting form the 25 spot. This drop could force the Texans to look at CB or OLB with their RD1 pick.

right now I'm going with the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy with our line. These last two weeks have been the best they have looked all season, I get it they played 2 bad run defenses and only threw the ball 25 and 20 times respectively. Especially that right side, Mancz and Lamm have real chemistry together. I think Mancz has even talked about this recently, saying something along the lines of all they have to do is give each other a look and they know what the other is thinking. Kelemente's knee might not be fully healed, but he is performing much better recently and I really don't want to add more onto Davenport's plate by having him try to build chemistry with someone else if we don't have to.

Some folks are changing their minds about this Texans' Oline. Why I've allegedly heard rumors that SteelB might now be calling this Texans OLine his NFL dream OLine. I dunno any truth to those allegations ?
According to the 'Stats" sub group in ESPNs NFL section Miller & Chubb together have accumulated 15 sacks thru 8 games so that's right at an average of 2 sacks a game for the combo.
I'll be very pleased if our OLine can hold them to that average this Sunday but I'm worried it may get kinda hairy for our guys (and most importantly Watson) this Sunday.

I'm thinking we should make Chubb and Old Spice (err, I mean Miller) play the run all day. The O-line's run blocking seems to be improving. Lamar Miller seems to have discovered how to get chunk yds. Did I mention the Broncos are near the bottom in defense against the rush? They give up 5.1 yds/att. (the Texans give up 3.6).
Why throw when their weakness is against the run?

I would like to see a good mix with L. Miller and Blue getting passes as well as runs; both are quite good receiving. I foresee an extra Olineman next to Davenport and TE Jordan Thomas 6'5" 270 ish next to Lamm with RB chipping when possible. Quick decisions, quicker release and good observations by receivers. This is a way to get Rankin at least some game time blocking.

This has been the conundrum for me for a while as I thought Davenport would remain at LT so position priority was lowered especially with Lamm doing better. A lot will change when we know who returns to school and who is taken before us as all know. Here is a projection for depth chart 2019:
Corners Colvin and Joseph whose final year contract drops a million in cap.
Safeties Jordan Reid and IMO both Matthieu and Kareem Jackson extended.
OLB: Clowney extended, Ejiofor, Mercilus
My thoughts draft wise: we have picks (apprx) 26, 50 (Seattle), 58 and 90. I believe we can get an OLB, Corner and OT (that can play both sides) with two selections in round two and our round three. I hope to get either a BPA or a starter day one with our first. I think needed backup will occur with remaining picks.

Let's put this in perspective............The Broncos have 24 sacks this season...........only 2nd to the Ravens with 27. Von Miller has 8 of those himself............only 2nd to Donaldson with 10..............and Chubb at 7 sacks, just behind Von Miller.
Yea I knew that Denver's defense in total had more than the 15 sacks that Miller & Chubb generated by themselves but they are the two primary edge rushers for the Broncos which is where with Davenport & Lamm @ the tackles our greatest vulnerablity exists and therefor my greatest concerns for Watson reside.
Hopefully we can prevent either of those two from having a big day and then take our chances with the rest of their defense.
The main problem could be in the middle, though it might not be obvious.
But it could force Watson to the edge, or back away deep in the pocket.

I hated when they traded down this year and got three seconds from the Jets. Put Quenton Nelson (probably the best OL prospect in years) on a silver platter for them and also gave them the opportunity to grab another high upside OL in the 2nd in Braden Smith.
Texans have a 1st and two 2nds this year so hopefully they get the opportunity to load up their OL in a similar fashion. Even if they don't get an opportunity at a slam dunk prospect like Nelson.

yeah the slam dunk players don't appear to be at positions we need or will be taken before our selection. Hoping to avoid more serious injuries and players to develop. I thought some time ago the bye would be timely and very helpful to our guys. I think JJ will also appreciate the rest.

That commitment to the OL has them at 23rd in the NFL at yards per play, worse than the Texans. Investing heavily in one aspect of your team means you’re ignoring other problems.

Ok. I guess I don’t exactly get the point of his post? If you spend a lot of 1st & 2nd rounders on a position group, yes, they should be good. That’s not quite rocket science. Any team can do that.
The Texans chose to build a better team, instead of just trying to build the best OL in the league.
Just saying that the Colts picked this year to address the OL for years to come, knowing that Luck wouldn't be 100%. However if he survives they can address other areas next year. After all they beat the Redskins, took the Eagles, Texans, and Patriots to close games. Perhaps they aren't all that far off
And while trying to build a better team, some would say they totally ignored the OLine.

There's a difference between ignoring vs just not doing a very good job.
But my stance on the OL's performance has been mostly on the coaching. I think we have the talent to be an average OL, but poor coaching makes them the worse.
Agreed. They do need to address the Ol though, along with CB and OLB and probably RB

Team was too pass heavy to start the year. Every NFL OLineman should be able to run block competently. What separates the all pro OL vs the replacement level players is pass blocking. Look at the Seahawks to start the year getting Wilson killed. Shift to most run heavy team in the league is not only keeping Wilson clean but it's led to them being 5-1 their last 6 with only loss to the undefeated Rams.
Same is true for the Texans these last two games where the OL has finally started to keep DW4 clean thanks in large part to a run heavy approach with Miller topping 100 yards each game. Also true for Colts with consecutive blowout victories now that Marlon Mack is healthy and Colts have shifted to a run heavy offense.
Very anxious to see what happens today. I think the injuries on both defenses make the environment ripe for a shootout. But if Texans go pass heavy Miller/Chubb are liable to tee off on DW4.
