So...
Where do we disagree?
Just the options for options sake part.
I don't know how to interpret that. Do you believe in dav? Do you believe in a free agent? Do you believe we should ignore ol in the draft?
I believe Davenport will make a large leap and will likely beat out any rookie they draft. I believe the FA, Henderson, will be an upgrade at RT and likely beat out any rookie. I believe they will draft 2 OL for competition/depth.

Well then, I guess you have to give BOB some credit if Davenport (Hopeful) is ready to handle full time LT duty in the NFL.

I'll give OB & RS credit for Davenport.
Why? What has he proven?
I see very raw talent. That's all. Again, I don't have the confidence you and others show. He's no one yet ob and rs should hang a hat on.
They are hanging their hat on him.
I've had 2 LT's on my wish list pretty much from the get-go. If Jamarco Jones (LT- Ohio St) is on the board in RD3, he's my first selection. I feel that the level of competition he's faced and the offense Ohio St runs, might have him better prepared than most believe. He's been described as solid and consistent while getting the job done. To me, this is guy that can be worked with and may be good enough to jump Davenport on the depth chart. Sorry, but I'm going to beat the drum once again for Bentley Spain (LT- North Carolina). He's a solid 2 year starter at LT and has played a very solid level of competition for his 2 seasons as a starter. Technique wise he checks all the boxes but like Jones, analyst think they need to gain more strength. Damn, if strength is all we're asking here....didn't the Texans just hire a new S&C Coach to whip these guys into shape with a new program.
For whatever reason, Spain isn't getting any hype and that's fine with me. If he's on the board in RD6 late, I'd select him, and same goes if he's on the board at the beginning of RD7. If he went undrafted, he'd be one of my immediate priority signings. Give him a season on the PS and he should be ready to compete in 2019 but hey, wouldn't want to pigeonhole the guy as a backup when he arrives...the competition should be wide open. This guy is going to make a good LT for some NFL team and surprise if he's drafted late or signed as an UDFA.
I'm also high on Gossett (OG - Appalachian St) who would be a very solid pick. Has the size and anchor to play OG....needs to build some NFL strength according to analyst and who doesn't according to these folks. I like his smarts and the fact that he didn't commit penalties in the game...3 all of last season. There are some bodies in place on the interior but a lot could change from this year to next. I view him as a solid depth piece tat should be in play next season after getting a full 14+ months with the new S&C Coach.
McGlinchey, Miller, Williams, and the polarizing Orlando Brown are the only tackles I'm seeing as first rounders in the mocks, and often only one or two of those playersSome interesting names that could potentially be available to us in the 3rd.
2018 NFL Draft Prospects – Offensive Tackle
and
2018 NFL Draft Prospects – Sleepers
Yes I believe so
But wasn't that because Gaine just elected to let them walk ?
And Clark is still available.
Say that again after the draft.
That's the point, the new GM is apparently not interested in him or in the other OT he released, he feels he can do better. And Clark is still available.
Lol. I just noticed that yesterday and thought "we'll definitely sign him at some point."
I agree with letting Breno walk. He’s probably the worst tackle I’ve seen in a Texans uni. I thought Clark would have been re-signed after we failed on Solder. If Clark is willing to sign for the min, makes no sense to me why Lamm is on the team over Clark. That's the point, the new GM is apparently not interested in him or in the other OT he released, he feels he can do better.
I'm going with the "in Brian we trust" motto.

I think Brent, Clark and Lamm need to come with a Surgeon General Warning: This OT may be hazardous to your NFL livelihood. This situation could be amplified if assigned to protect the blindside as LT.
Get rid of all three and move on. Davenport and draft picks are not going to get the luxury of a development season...they're are going to get a severe dose of OJT since there isn't a veteran to lean on. This is going to fall at the feet of Devlin to make these OT's ready for Week 1.
Unlikely we find a first year contributor with this year's talent and our draft position.
Davenport and draft picks are not going to get the luxury of a development season...
Just going by the scouting reports the main concern about the OL prospects that may be available to us is their lack of strength.
Several of them are said to possess the athleticism/skills needed. Our new strength coach hopefully can work some magic.
First year stars, probably not, but at least something/someone to work with. I am encouraged with what I have read about several of them.
Would really like to get Austin Corbett OT/C from Nevada.
But this is the same poster who liked Travis Johnson so take it with a grain of salt.
Guess this should be in the draft talk thread.

Yeah I'm all for drafting guys who will stays 2-3 years down the line. But that means we still need to work free agency for this year
McGlinchey, Miller, Williams, and the polarizing Orlando Brown are the only tackles I'm seeing as first rounders in the mocks, and often only one or two of those players
in the first round. I dunno how much credibility one can put in the mocks, but most agree this is a weak year for tackles, but maybe a little better for guards/centers.
I'm confidant the Texans will draft atleast two Olinamn but sign several more undrafted rookie tackles & guard so it will be an open and intense competition in camp for the Oline positions and roster spots.
I finally rewatched the last game of the '17 season where Davenport started and played most of the snaps. He did very well for the most part and essentially shut down the Colts defender he was going against but that was nobody notable so
its still an open question how he will perform in the upoming season against top-flite
edge rushers. But his play in that last game left one with a sense of optimism for the future.
Davenport just had a development season.

You are on record as being supportive of the new GM choice but wow that didn't last long did it ? So does this mean you are already so disappointed with his first free agency
that you've now written him off or did you just get up this morning wanting to blast Texans' management ?
Don't you think they made a substantial improvement in the interior OLine positions with their FA pickups ?i
Ok sure but I do not see any OT dropping to us round three that could start.
Definitely not meant for discouragement.......just as an FYI on injury history. Jones missed most of the 1st half of last season with a torn shoulder labrum. Spain fractured his hand in preseason and missed several games in the 1st half of last season wrapped in a club. The hand definitely continued to affect his play throughout the 1st half of the season. Of note also is the fact that in 2006, he ruptured his patellar tendon. Gossett is considered a power right guard. He missed 4 games due to a 2014 preseason undisclosed "lower body" injury. This injury affected him for most of the rest of the season. Since then, he has remained essentially injury free.
I'm very disappointed that all Gaine did was sign 3 backup OL in an attempt to fix the OL. (Are you happy the Texans org was unwilling to spend the cap space they have to bring in the best FA OL?) I'm willing to wait and see what happens in the draft before I judge how Gaine did this offseason.
BTW, I think that going on the cheap in FA is a directive from the very top. McNair got burned by Casserly's FA signings and decided to go cheap in FA. (JoJo/Manning are outliers of the Texans orgs philosophy)
You do know there are examples of backup linemen who finally got their starts and played very good football. It's not the end of the world so how about giving it a shot before dooming the moves a failure.
And what starter did you honestly think we had the chance to get. It takes two tangle Steel.
Hope you are right about the experts being confused about where the quality of this tackle class lies, so maybe something better, maybe much better than theThis draft class is a good one for OT's, the experts have got this wrong. They're right that there's no Orlando Pace/Walter Jones/Boselli OT's in this draft. But there are quality starters to be found in rd 3 of this draft. What the experts are struggling with is McGlinchey/Brown/Williams/Miller as 1st rd guys may end up not being as good as guys that most likely will be there in the 3rd rd. Noteboom/Harrison/Okorafor/Jones.
They cant figure out who's who so therefore it must be a bad class.
Hope you are right about the experts being confused about where the quality of this tackle class lies, so maybe something better, maybe much better than the
dregs of the class will be there for GM Gaine in the third round.
You till a Tyrell Crosby fan ?
So you're banking on 3 of these guys?
You've got to pay top $$$$ to get top guys like Solder/Norwell. While they reportedly were willing to give as much $$$$ as the NYG for Solder they weren't willing to give the most. Didn't even try for Norwell, but the Jags did.
I'm more about doing everything possible to put the best OL around Watson possible. Increasing the odds of keeping him healthy and having a productive running game is priority #1 for me. Even if that means letting Clowney walk after next yr. They had the cap space available.
Would you rather have an all pro like Norwell or a backup like Kelemete if you had the cap $$$$? The Texans had the cap $$$$ and chose Kelemete, ask yourself why.
All because you have the money doesn't mean you will always get what you want. The other party has to willing to sign the contract.
Norwell or Solders did not want to come here. If they did, they would've been here. Why can't you understand that. It takes to tangle.
Players 99% of the time go where the $$$$ is.
If we cant agree on this then there's no sense in wasting time with this.
This is really a very simple thing.
Giants reportedly want to trade their former first-round pick Ereck Flowers
Flowers has definitely not lived up to his lofty draft status in the league, but he is also still just 23 years old (he turns 24 on Tuesday). He's likely a better fit as a run-mauler on the right side of the line at this point, but he still has a bunch to work on if he wants to be considered a starting-caliber lineman. It's possible some team could convince themselves that he is worth a late-round pick and give it a shot at rehabilitating his skill set.

I dunno could this guy be worth a 6th or 7th round pick to the Texans ?
He'd be better than Henderson. I'd say yes if he can be had for almost nothing.
