Starting white CBs?

Hopefully this adds to the discussion. If you don't think Div. 1A schools stereotype, you're crazy. This is where the problem comes in. I know directly from the horses mouth that they do. A buddy of mine plays for Texas A&M. His name is Roger Holland. If any of you are Aggie fans, he is our punt returner.

The kid is just plain fast. He literally runs about a 4.3 40 and is extremely athletic. He was a star in track and can be great in coverage. Yet when he came to A&M he was literally told to not even try to play CB because the coaches were not going to waste their time trying to develop him for the position.

Supposedly they want him to be a WR, yet he is receiving substantially less coaching than many of the other athletes. So instead of trying to groom him and make him something, they stick the white guy back to return punts. We'll see if it's all he does for the rest of his career. I'm just sayin...

Just curious, is the kid a 'walk-on' or is he on full scholarship?

Also, there is more than just being fast, see Ronaldo Nehemiah

I think he's on scholarship but to be honest, I really don't know. I'll have to ask him sometime.

And I totally agree. My main point was the A&M staff did not even want to give him the chance to compete at the position. He was given no opportunity to even show if he could play the position, even though it was there and WR that he excelled at in high school.

Oh well. This doesn't need to get moved to the NSZ. The point of Joker's thread was there aren't many white CBs in the NFL. Actually wait, correction: one white CB.

As I said earlier, the issue only bothers me because as a white man, I get sick and tired of the media coverage given every so often to such and such team not interviewing a black coach or looking for a black quarterback.

Blacks in general seem to have this idea that whites are never discriminated against, and I think this very thread shows, at times, we are discriminated against as well.

So in summary: if we ever want to live in a colorblind society, both races are going to have to stop talking about how prejudice the other side is. But sadly, I doubt one side will ever be willing to give up the discussion...

I only asked becaues 'scholarship v. walk-on' would change the dynamic of the amount of coaching he would receive.

LMAO!!! Very true! I'm 5'-9" but when I jump, I'm 5'-5"... I have a negative 4" vertical jump.

It's not color of the skin that matters, it's the color of the jersey they are wearing. I prefer Battle Red. :)
