Special Teams Anything But

I couldn't believe Kris Brown continued his streak of spotty performances that he started last year with his miss from 40 yds. I was also unimpressed with the punting (35.3 avg). I'll give the return teams the benefit of the doubt since they are searching for someone to replace Mathis & PBuch right now (though the Anderson fumble still irks me). I REALLY wish we would bring in someone to challenge Brown before he ends up costing us more close games this year!

I agree - Lundy looked good on both types of returns.

Stanley had some difficulty with the short punts last night, but then had a good one later.

Who?

Who could you be able to get that would be legitimate competition for Brown?

I am not asking this to be a donkey, I would like to know.

There are so many changes happening this season that I am guessing they have tabled the kickers in the bigger fish to fry category.

(I share your concerns. They are in my next blog post if the Chronicle folks ever get around to posting it).

I harldy think Brown slightly shanking one 40 yarder amounts to knowing he will be bad during the season. Not enough of a snapshot to know really. That's like taking 5 passes of Carr in his first pre-season game, and extrapoliting that out to 64 quarters, and assuming that's his entire season.

Nope. You are right.

It just makes you a little nervous that he is missing kicks he should make inside a building with no wind at a non-critical time of the game. You know, given last years stuff that we will not speak of.

stanley...hard to guage that.. he is getting really good hang time and he is putting it inside the 20 .. sure his net average is going to suffer..

4-1-KC42 (12:20) C.Stanley punts 25 yards to KC 17, Center-B.Pittman, fair catch by D.Hall. (Punt hang time 3.9 seconds.)

(8:12) C.Stanley punts 24 yards to KC 29, Center-B.Pittman, downed by HST-T.Evans. (Punt hang time 5.1 seconds.) (Punt to KC 18 rolled back to KC 29.)

(11:46) C.Stanley punts 49 yards to KC 30, Center-B.Pittman. N.Curry to KC 33 for 3 yards (A.Halterman). (Hang time 5.7.)

(4:09) C.Stanley punts 31 yards to KC 9, Center-B.Pittman, fair catch by N.Curry. (Hang time 5.1.)

I would think that your point of view of stanley should change slightly considering where he was punting and what he did.. his 2nd punt hit the 18 ..(could have been better) and rolled back

we gave up 3 yards on punt returns..

as far as brown, I missed where he missed.

IIRC, alot of Stanley's punts were from close rang (KC territory). I don't think he had many chances to just boom em. That my be why his average was so low. He was trying to place more punts than he was trying to bomb.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Porky again.
