SOoooo....How Much?

Glacier

I've noticed quite a few of the Texan's fans are heavily favoring Reggie Bush in the draft over Vince Young...

Traditionally, the Houston area has been more aligned with the A&M football program vs the UT football program....

How much is the fact that VY played for Texas a part of the hate on him from Houstonians?

How would the Oilers management have been viewed if they had passed on a player who was a Texas Legend named Earl Campbell?

The Texans will always be just another random scrub expansion team to everyone else but people in the Houston area unless, someone like a Texas Legend comes and puts an identity on the franchise and MAKES them a Texas team...not just an expansion team that is in Houston.

What exactly made you figure everyone in H-town is favoring Bush? If you listen to 610 you'll see they at least are on the VY bandwagon and as for the people I think it might be about 50-50

Well mostly these message boards.

True, it could be that the Bush supporters are perhaps more vocal. I did get the feeling that 610 was a little slanted towards the VY direction being that he is Houston's hottest name at the moment.

Most people have a problem with Vince Young being drafted because we don't need to spend a #1 pick on a QB and give him $60 million dollars.

Geographic regions have a lot less of an impact on professional teams than they do for college teams. Texas teams aren't all lumped together, California teams aren't all lumped together, and Florida teams aren't all lumped together. You gain respect around the country by winning football games. Not by adding a local player to make you truly a Texas team.

the fact vince young won't be a good nfl qb is why i don't want to draft him, not cuz he's ffrom UT.

only the local polls have vince over reggie. all of the national polls have reggie over Bush big time.

Say what you want (and I have) about Bud Adams, but he made moves to get Earl Campbell here. I believe we traded picks with Tampa Bay.

I was going to say.....there was no way the Oilers could have passed on him because they traded up to get him and he would have been gone if they hadn't.

I Like Vince, but there's a big difference between running around with college linebackes hitting him and NFL linebacker knocking him around! Look at this seasons running QB's in the NFL---Vick (hurt most of this season and last season), McNabb (hurt), McNair (always hurt), Culpepper (hurt). :brickwall

To me I would have taken Earl too. I am not against VY the Houstonian. But I also think that the UT crowd has been filling this board and the talk shows with In-vince-ible slop. None of these players is a team in and of himself. I have heard Vince's" greatness" and all of a sudden everyone wanting to drop kick Carr to Miami:rolleyes: for Ricky " The UT Recluse, who just wanted to smoke pot" Wiliams. The Cowboys are closer to UT, let them take Vince Wonder and Toke Man. Their was no reason to take Young before the Rose Bowl and the same still applies.

Look at this season's pocket QB's
Palmer (hurt in playoffs), Leftwich (hurt), Marc Bulger (hurt), Grossman (last season and this season), Boller (missed half the season)
linebackers hit you whether you run the ball or not
but anyway, my point is that VY has the talent to be a good NFL QB
NOT HIS POTENTIAL
NOT HIS CAPABILITIES
the way he is now

I believe he can be a Good QB in the NFL, but He is not a Team by himself. He needs a good line and other playmakers to be good. Bush is also talented and fits in with the guys we already have. This isn't fantasy football where you can start from scratch every year. I myself like Peyton in that regard. We are not in need of another QB. At that position their is only one guy and someone drafted him four years ago and has left him on an Island ever since. We threw a Bone at him every once in awhile. Give him a meal and I bet he gets rejuvenated quickly.

I'm not for or against Bush and I'm not for or against Young, I don't know what the texans should do, so I try to be the voice of reason. Just because Earl was from UT and was a HOF, doesn't mean Young is going to be a successful player in the NFL. Two completely different Men, coming from two completely different programs, same team, but different programs. If I hear we HAVE to take Vince, because Earl was a success one more time I'm going to be sick. Drop that angle and bring some different meat, Earl is irrevalent to Young.

Also what makes anybody think that houston is a aggie town, I grew up in houston and always rooted for UT
