Some quick thoughts about the Bengals

^^^This

AJ v. Bengals:

11 receptions for 143 yards averaging 13.0 per catch.

That's ^ part of it...:thisbig:

Yeah, we struggled against the Browns. So what? We beat them. You haven't beat a half-way decent team all year. The Steelers struggled against the Lions heavily this past weekend. Does that make them bad? No. Its the friggin NFL. Games usually end up being fairly competitive. Nobody wants to just lay down and take it.

Bottom Line: If Ben Roethlisberger couldnt get the ball to Santonio Holmes and Joe Flacco couldnt get the ball to Derrick Mason, what makes you think you QB will be able to get through our secondary? You're wild man

-Yeah, you beat them....We also beat the Titans in week 2 who are now winless team still, but even they are still better than the Browns who have 1 win....If you can't see that your not watching football...

-The Steelers aren't the same team this year.... they didn't struggle against the Lions as much as you say...They pretty much had the game in the 3rd up 28-13....The Lions scored a late TD to make it closer at the end. It took you guys every bit of OT.

-As some1 mentioned, I won't be surprised if you end up like the Bills last season....

What did they have, a nice 5-1 start?.

-For the most part this season, games haven't really been competitive at all when it comes to the good teams vs. bad ones...

Your comparing AJ to Santonio and Mason?
Your comparing our passing offense to the Ravens?

-If your guys really try and shut down AJ as much as you say...

Your losing this game cuz KW and OD will kill them....too many weapons for you to think if you could possibly shut down 1 guy it will stop our passing game. Your "shut down" pass D is ranked 23rd for a reason...

It's also not nearly as easy to take that beast out of the game as it was those other guys either. You don't think he's beaten double coverage b4? You don't think every team trys to take him away? You don't think we've found ways to get him open when teams do?

Your a wild man...:wild:

It isn't inconcievable to think the Bengals can shut down AJ. After all he's been shutdown twice this year already. Nnandi Ashomugh practically owns him. I'm not saying Hall or Joseph can play at the level of Nnandi, but their pretty damn good and our front 7 is considerably better than the Raiders. We're gonna send a boat load of blitz packages at Schuab and your banged up O-line. If you can keep the heat at bay, you have a good shot at pulling off some big plays.

Some people have asked what the Bengals are doing this year and how the Texans can copy their early season success. What it all boils down too is chemistry. You've seen it in every sport, on every level and it's a special thing to witness when it's in play. The chemistry this Bengals team has is phenominal. Our defesne is made up of a bunch of castoffs or players who slipped in the draft and have something to prove. Our offense is the same way. I think Mike Zimmer is owed a lot to the development of our young defense. He is one of the best in the game. We've gotten fortunate with FA signings. Who could have forseen what Cedric Benson would bring to our team. Our past few drafts have been extraordinary. Marvin Lewis should get a ton of credit too. In 2005 we were flying high with a talented team, but that team was too immature. Lewis dismantled it and brought in his type of players. The smartest players on this team, play the most important positions. We are a team filled with true professionals, that put in the extra work to be good.

We've been down in every game this year, but this team refuses to give up. They trust each other and the coaches.

Looks like the Bengals have brought in the ZBS scheme.
We'll see which team can do it better this week.

Palmer is dangerous whether in the pocket or on the run.
Our D will have to step up this week like they did in the second half against the Cards.
We need pressure all around.
Hopefully, Mario will be back to 100%
The Bengals O-line is good but we should have some oportunity to penetrate.
Let's hope the guys in the middle can continue with the good work.

Hard to say AJ was shut down in Oakland. Assomougha only covers one side of the field for the majority of the time. AJ had 66 yards in the 1st half and the Texans didn't throw to him in the 2nd half (only threw 5 times total) because they went into prevent offense to protect the lead.

AJ got shut down against the Jets because they have a top 3 CB in Darelle Revis and one of the best coverage FSs in the league in Kerry Rhodes who were double teaming him all day along with Rex Ryan's pass rush that didn't give Schaub anytime to throw.

The key to taking AJ out of the game is to double team him and put tons of pressure on Schaub. But I dont think too many teams have the Jets' personnel that will allow them to do that (Shutdown CB, top FS, and a top pass rush). Also, Kevin Walter was injured in the Jets games which made it even easier for them to key on AJ. He's healthy now so that 23rd ranked pass defense is going to have a tough time doing what they need to do to take AJ AND all the other targets out of the game.

Joker you do realize that top Jets pass rush your talking about is tied for last in the NFL in sacks with 4.

Revis never shut down Andre like some want to sat either...they shut down Schaub by getting tons of pressure, mostly with various blitzes that the Texans were unprepared for going into this season against a new Jets Rex Ryan defense. Nobody in the league was expecting this and I really think teams are gonna start taking advantage of that over aggressive defense.

Joker's right...the only way to affect QB isn't sacks(common sense)...pressure can sometimes do more than just sacks to hurt an offense....

If the Jets are getting so much pressure on QB's it would reflect more in their sack totals. You don't get constant pressure on QB's and average less than a sack per game.

The Jets are 8th against the pass in terms of yardage given up and are allowing an average QB rating of 67.6 (good for 5th in the league). I'd say that a big reason for that is due to pressure and if you watched some of their games you would agree. It doesn't matter who you've got in the secondary if you cant get pressure. Give the QB time to throw and he'll find an open WR eventually.

The Cincinnati Bengals on the other hand are 23rd in terms of yardage given up and are allowing an average QB rating of 82.0 (good for 12th).

Also, the Bengals are allowing a league leading 20 pass plays of 20 yards or more.

The Texans are 4th in the league with 19 pass plays of 20 yards or more :)

Andre getting a deep one? A very good possibility this week...actually anyone of our guys going deep could happen...:cowboy1:

Considering we've got 4 guys (AJ, Slaton, JJ, and other Andre) that can score from anywhere on the field i'd say its a very real possibility that we'll see one of them get a deep ball. I wouldn't mind seeing Slaton lined up at WR on a go route again, we had some success with that last year.

Sacks and pressure aren't always one in the same my friend.

:goodpost:
Jets are ranked 19th (tied with Baltimore) in QB Hits, ranked 23rd (tied with St. Louis) in something I call PRESSURE APPLIED = QB Hits / Adjusted Pass Attempts faced (includes sacks).

NY has struggled getting pressure the last two weeks. After week three was tied for 3rd with 20 QBH, but managed only 1 QBH last two games.
