So, it's done now.....

Dirty Old Man
What do you think? Over all, how did the Texans do?

I think they did well. Would I give them an A? I wouldn't, but I would give them a B.

I really liked the first 3 picks. Will trust them on the others. I think we got a steal with Dickerson. For now I would give them a B+

I think they did fairly well. They were able to find some real steals in this draft, and it certainly looks like we're in for an exciting brand of football. I'm anxious to see who we sign out of the UDFAs.

Preliminary thoughts (I reserve the right to change these)

Kareem Jackson- B+
Jackson is a tough corner with good athleticism, with the ability to play right away. That is what you want in the first round. Not an A because he will not be a spectacular player (like Cush was).

Ben Tate- B+
I dont like the fancy crap they did, but Tate fills a need and was my second favorite back after Gerhart.

Earl Mitchell- C-
Like the position, not so much the player. I think he will get washed out too many times, and will not provide the inside push people think he will.

Darryl Sharpton- D
Dislike the pick. LB depth was not this immediate of a need, and frankly, I do not see him becoming anything more than depth.

Garrett Graham- C-
Meh, not a huge fan. I think we were ok with TEs, but I understand being cautious. Still, I would have liked to see another position addressed.

Shelley Smith- B+
Smith is a nasty dude, something the OL needs. Mobile and strong, he should compete for playing time

Trindon Holliday- A
Holliday will immediately make this team more dangerous. Any time he touches the ball, he is a threat to go the distance.

Dorin Dickerson- B
Well, my gut reaction was WTF?! But then I learned he would be a receiver. Someone with this raw athleticism this late, good pick.

I would give this draft a C+/B-

I'll start off by saying I am openly an apologist for the regime.

Kareem Jackson - A
He'll start, he'll hit, cover and work hard.

Ben Tate - A
He'll either start or be number one cab off the rank. Should be able to get some of those yards we left on the table last year.

Earl Mitchell - B
Fits the Dr's order for what the defense wants, skies the limit.

Darryl Sharpton - C
Muh. He'll be a back up, play special teams. Fill a hole in the starting line-up if needed. Worst pick of the day.

Garrett Graham - B
Drafted to cover injury issues and a guy with a well rounded game to be a solid every down player and starter in the league.

Shelley Smith - A+
Best pick of the draft. Strong, Quick, Aggressive and perfect for our system.

Trindon Holliday - A
PLAYMAKER with crazy speed.

Dorin Dickerson - C+
Very talented but learning new position..... worth a crack in the 7th

Overall A-

Sour grapes?

....makes bad wine. I prefer beer.

everyones got an opinon, it's why I asked. But for the life of me, the first two picks and the last two we did quite well for the pick postions and the rounds. I just can't understand an F.

very happy. a nice blend of immediate quality contributors in need position (jackson, tate & possibly shelley), possible long term homeruns who should contribute early as role players (holiday, shelley, graham, mitchell & dickerson), guys with good intangibles who'll compete and at worst be quality ST'ers & depth (mcmannis & sharpton)

Really? why? At worst I could understand a C, but an F? I just can't see that.

I think people are scared to say what they really feel because we have had some pretty succesfull drafts as of late. Im not.

My thoughts.

Kareem Jackson- I can live with it but everyone thinks Wilson would of been better. This reeks of gettting cute because of overconfidence. They should of took the most talented player.

Ben Tate- another one I can live with but there was way better talent available.

Earl Mitchell- Cmon really??? This spot in the draft should contribute more than this guy will IMO.

Darryl Sharpton- Absolute waste of a pick with plenty of players left that could actually make the team.

Garrett Graham- I like GG but another TE????????

Sherrick McManis -

Shelley Smith- Reeks of another Colorodo favorites pick.

Trindon Holliday- 5'5" 160 Really?????

Dorin Dickerson- Best pick of the draft IMO.

They passed up alot talent in the middle and down rounds for players that probably wont contribute anything this year.

I would give this draft a F. JMO WE'LL SEE!!!!

I was thinking a B, until I saw the post draft press conference with Smith and Kubiak. They talked me up to a B+.

The Texans NEEDED a CB and a RB in the worst way, and addressed those areas effectively in rounds one and two. The other guys taken in the following rounds look good on paper, and address most of the other areas of need to an adequate degree.

If I had to make an early projection of the Texan's first round pick for next year, it would probably be an interior offensive lineman. Perhaps a center.

There is no area of this team that could not potentially be upgraded. But that being said, there are no major holes that remain unfilled. The Texans go into next season with a roster that is adequate to field a solid starting lineup at every position. The interior offensive line is my only real area of concern.

They did a good job with the draft this year. I give them a B+.

Not everyone-some had Jackson rated higher

- Such as? That fit our system better?

I’m not an expert, but many other folks that rate players say this guy is more pro ready than others. Can’t see where it’s a bad pick.

Ben Tate- another one I can live with but there was way better talent available.

He fits rather well into our ZBS offense.

Earl Mitchell- Cmon really??? This spot in the draft should contribute more than this guy will IMO.

An unknown at this point. Seems like a good depth take to me. Which is OK by my book for the 3rd round.

I t

Darryl Sharpton- Absolute waste of a pick with plenty of players left that could actually make the team.

He’ll make the team as a special teams player. So what, he’s a 4th round pick. Big deal.

Garrett Graham- I like GG but another TE????????

Questionable. But considering the ER ward necessary to take care of our current tight ends, not a bad pick

Sherrick McManis -

Shelley Smith- Reeks of another Colorodo favorites pick.

Um……not sure what to say really

Trindon Holliday- 5'5" 160 Really?????

A good special teams player. It’s a 6th round choice, jesus what do you what?

Dorin Dickerson- Best pick of the draft IMO.

LOL. Good player, we’ll see.

Kareem Jackson At first I was shocked, because I haven`t heard much of him and Kyle Wilson was available... after some reading I´m excited. Sounds like exactly the kind of player we need. And being the most Pro-ready CB is huge! Remember how Cushing was supposed to be pro-ready but wouldn`t have too much upside? Or in the NBA, guys like Brandon Roy or Stephen Curry...

Ben Tate I was a little shock at the trade down and losing Gerhart - but this team still has too many holes to just give up those extra draft picks. Tate and Gerhart are graded pretty similar so I am really happy with this pick

Earl Mitchell Love the position, don`t know the player. Getting a pass rush from the inside would help a lot, but some other better known guys were still out there. In the end I just have to trust the FO.

Darryl Sharpton I am fine with adding depth, and that guy seems to be a player, but I´d much prefered a player at a need position here.

Garrett Graham Good value, and we might need a TE with all the injuries going around. But I´d prefered a FS or G/C.

Sherrick McManis Seems like a good pick up.

Shelley Smith An athletic zone blocking guard. I can live with that.

Trindon Holliday Love the pick! Will only see the field for a couple of plays per game, but it will be exciting to watch! Might make some highlight reels...

Dorin Dickerson Probably our best value pick. Seems like he will come in as a slot receiver, so I am fine with him.

Overall I´d say we get something like a B... but you can`t really know until all those guys have hit the field.

As ****ing drunk as I am, I'm amazed I got all the quotes right on my previous post. LOL

Ok ... away we go ...

Jackson CB ... if he comes out next year , he'd be a top 5 pick . He's a victim of his name not being mentioned much at first but came on strong . B+

Tate RB ... good pick that I thought was a two horse race between him and Matthews . Like Jackson , he's a battle tested SEC player . B+

Mitchell DT ... I understand the gamble and like Earl's upside . Hehad 6.5 sacks last year . The other Dts on the board didn't have 6.5 of those for a career . He had the most potential of the gys that were there in the 3rd . B

Sharpton LB ... he'll probably be the Texans version of Bill Bates . C+

Graham TE ... Ok ... C-

McManis ... quality guy decent player ... C+

Shelley Smith ... prototype ZBS guy . Competetive guy with a nasty streak , also is a above average athlete . B+

Holliday ... 4.21 40 ... what else do you want in the 6th besides a big play guy . I see him making folks standup for the kickoffs . B+

Dickerson ... WR ... yu don't grow guys who are 6'2 and 226 that run a 4.4 on trees . I wanted him in the 4th round in our mocks and he had a 2nd round grade . He'll be the best of JJ and Walter in one . A

I'd say that probably gives them a B

Not sexy, but hopefully solid and productive (or sexy in a time-release kind of way).

To be honest, it hasn't pumped me up to go into the season like some of the past ones have, but on the other-hand, every other time I was pumped up going in to the season, things didn't go quite as I'd hoped/envisioned anyway.

Here's hoping that 2010's a season we come out of all pumped up, and if you're feeling that way now because of this draft - good for you!

Kareem Jackson- B+
Kind of surprised me, but I keep hearing "most NFL ready CB". Might not be flashy but, looks to me like he'll be solid and can contribute right away. Taht was the most important thing we needed with this pick

Ben Tate- B+
Liked him better than Gerhart and is SEC battle tested. IMO a much better fit for what we want out of our RBs.

Earl Mitchell- C
Not familiar with the name and seems a bit smaller than I was hoping. Everyone keeps chirping about his potential, knew Kubiak and Smith wouldn't be able to keep their hands out of the cookie jar. Hopefully if nothing else it sends a big message to Okoye.

Darryl Sharpton- D
Not a big fan of the pick. Wasn't a need position and I don't look for him to be anything more than a ST guy.

Garrett Graham- C-
Would've preferred some OL help here, but looks like the FO is concerned about the TE position. Can't complain about our last TE from the school though.

McMannis- C
Not sure what to think really. Project player and we needed help on the back end. Going to be interesting camp for CBs. I think it's quite possible we see one of them asked to try to move to FS.

Shelley Smith- B
Gut reaction was damnit, another CSU player. After reading more looks like he could push for PT at one of the guard spots. I like hearing he's got a bit of a mean streak. Def something the entire line could use.

Trindon Holliday- A+
Favorite pick in this draft. Like getting Dexter McCluster in the 6th. He really impressed me in the Texas vs the Nation bowl here in El Paso. Guy is a burner and I think the staff is going to end up having to find ways to get the ball in his hands. Also has great vision once he breaks into the open field, kid is going to be killer on screens and dump offs. I could keep gushing....

Dorin Dickerson- C+
Not really expecting much from such a late round pick. But consensus is the guy is a raw athlete and could develop.

IMO the draft was productive early got cute in the middle with some questionable picks in the middle with some nice value picks late.

Overall draft grade C+

Overall draft grade C+

That is really close to what I have. Nice to know I am not crazy. This draft definitely broke down different than I was expecting.

Kareem Jackson- B+
I like the fact he started for the reigning National Champs. Some say he was better than Wilson, others say Jackson's better. That says to me - not being "married" to either - that they're equivalent talents. He fills an immediate need so good pick.

Ben Tate- A+
I like him better than Gerhardt because, from what I've read, he has better hands and is faster. It's quite possible that Steve Slaton just lost his starting position and may be demoted to 3rd down back.

Earl Mitchell- C
We have to acknowledge, if not accept, that our defensive philosophy values speed and quickness over bulk and power. That's just how it is. And this guy is supposed to have quickness and speed. However, the 3rd round is high too pick someone that will just go into the DL rotation. So while they addressed a need, points off for getting a "project" with this pick.

Darryl Sharpton- B-/C+
Took me a minute to figure this one out. It's about depth. Adibi has shown flashes but can't stay healthy. Bentley and Khary Campbell are 9-year guys - time to get younger. Chaun Thompson is an 8-yr guy; a bit long in the tooth to be just a S/T guy. Time to get younger. When I thought about this one it made sense.

Garrett Graham- B-
I see this as insurance if (a) we can't re-sign O.D. (unlikely) or (b) one or more of the three TEs coming off surgery don't make it back 100% (unknown). And even if they all do, we were due for an upgrade to Dreessen.

McMannis- D
This is the one pick I don't care for. If we were going to draft a project DB, why not a FS??

Shelley Smith- B
I wanted O-line help and this guy seems to fit the ZBS so I can't complain.

Trindon Holliday- B
His speed is impressive; his size is not. Plus I'm not used to us picking pure KR/PR guys. But you guys seem to like what you see, so I'm going with y'all's assessments on this one.

Dorin Dickerson- B+
Any time you can get a guy that produced 59 catches and ten TDs in the 7th round, that's value. Looking at the YouTube highlights, he seems like a Shannon Sharpe type. I wish they'd keep him at TE. ...but Marcus Colston was a TE in college, maybe we've got something here.

Overall, I'd say this draft rates a B-/C+. Three of four obvious needs addressed - CB, RB, and DT. And a couple of needs I didn't realize we had - LB depth, S/T help - also addressed.

Now if we pick up a solid FS in the UDFA pool, I'll change this to a solid B.

i'd give it a B+ overall. we hit homeruns IMO with our first two picks and got exactly who we needed. mid rounds fell off a bit with mitchell and graham, but i can see the decision for these two. sharpton and mcmannis i think are wasted picks, we could've done better. the back end rebounded well though with smith, holliday, and dickerson - all of which i see contributing before long. holliday is especially exciting because of that crazy speed and his experience on offense.

what i like though is we seemed to have a focus in the draft on one of our biggest weaknesses - redzone offense. we can move the ball at will between the 20's but tate, graham, smith, and dickerson look to be the type of players to help turn those yards into points.

Earl Mitchell- C

This is a scouts pick. And I agree, if he develops this summer he may be the most productive rookie in the group. Including Tate and Jackson. Quick pressure from the middle is a Killer for any QB. He wasn't brought in to bull rush that's for sure. If they can teach him to use his hands correctly this summer, he has tremendous upside. I guarantee you very QB in our division is aware we took the guy.

I agree on this 100% we might have a nasty DL, especially in nickel situations.
