So how will Kubiak's evaluations work?

McNair said that after Kubiak brings in his staff and such, next on the list of things to do will be to evaluate our team's talent.

How will that work? I mean...its not like he can bring everyone in for some early training camp.. will he evaluate by watching tape?

Im guessing that that will be the case.. though I wish there was some way he could evaluate them better. I guess we will have to wait until camp to really see how he is going to change things around.

Because of the fact that he is a new coach, new rules apply.

You are allowed 3 mini-camps instead of one, plus you can have one of your mini-camps before the draft so that all personell can evaluate positions.

A lot of tape. Also they should have on record strength and conditioning tests/trials for the players as they profile the assets on how they will fit into the new scheme.

Not sure if mini camps are allowed pre draft.

The NFL has rules about how often teams can hold a mandatory minicamp. If a coach has been with a team for at least one season, there is one minicamp allowed. For a new coach, his team can meet twice during the offseason. Teams can also have up to 14 OTAs (or on-field team activities; also referred to as OFAs). These are not mandatory but players still show up to make an impression on their coaches.

So I guess most of the players live locally, and wouldn't have a problem coming in on short notice??
 
I wouldn't count on most of the players living here for the entire year. I'm sure a lot go back to where ever they are from.
 
Would it be to the player's advantage to work out if not all of their teammates (aka competition) have to? Interesting. I'd say that the competitor in each and every one of them would want to work out, but I wonder what their agents would say.

And their families. These players don't see their families that often during the season, and usually want to take the opportunity to catch up with their kids/etc.
 
So it sounds like tape until the first mini-camp which will be after the draft. So he will be able to evaluate the draft picks as well I am guessing, even if they haven't signed?

I can't wait until Kubes establishes his complete staff.
 
I just want Bob Allen to do an interview with him, I really wanna hear him talk about this stuff for once!

First Kubiak will spend 48 hours reading every post on the Texans forum. Screw game tape, we all seem to know what we're talking about! :heh: (j/k!)

Seriously, though, it would be cool to peek behind the curtain to learn how the evaluation process works. I bet it's pretty tedious work, though.

I dont know how it is in the NFL but I got to sit in on a few of my highschool coaching film reviews and those guys definentally put in their time. The 2 sessions I sat in on we were the last people to leave the school... near 10 pm. They'd watch the same play atleast 11 times... sometimes they'd go over it more times than I could count. Guess it could be tedious... if you didnt love what you were doing.

I suspect, though, that with positions/careers on the line (especially if you are a Texans lineman), that if the coaches were to set up a training camp, the players will attend. I think they know that there is a lot of room on the chopping block for anyone who wants space.
 
Pure Speculation, do not take as true.

From a source close to the team, Kubiak has already evaluated our a large portion of our offensive talent. As has been mentioned before, he wowed Mr. McNair and company with his video breakdown of the Texans. I think he has a pretty good idea already where we are going on offense. The evaluation process will be predominately on (1) the defense; (2) FA prospects; and (3) draft eligible players.
