Having the authority doesn't necessarily correlate to wanting to make the decision. I think he knew it should be but I would not be surprised if Nick patted him on the shoulder and said pull the trigger.Because I don’t think he would have taken the job if he wasn’t given that authority.
Because they are awesome at setting picks…Agree. Yet, on the flip side. Wherever Andy Reid coaches, his teams have always been able to run screens. It's crazy.
I know I’m late to the party here, but I’m surprised as hell Demeco has cleaned house. But very very … VERY….pleasantly surprised. I just expected Slowick to be kept because that’s how they always ran their business. This tells me that Demeco is in charge.
It's literally in the post you quoted.Interesting, how do you know that Demeco made the decision?
Because he’s the head coach that’s why. Why do you think he’s incapable of making these types of decisions?Interesting, how do you know that Demeco made the decision?
I guess to some people, he shouldn’t be capable of it. Beats me as to why that is.Because he’s the head coach that’s why. Why do you think he’s incapable of making these types of decisions?
Demeco or Nick or Cal said that Demeco made the decision? I guess I missed that. I am not saying that he didn't but to claim that he did when we don't know that seems a little bit ridiculous. It's literally in the post you quoted.

That is not what I said. someone would claim to know that. Anyway, moving onA bit ridiculous that DeMeco did his job?

Sources tell CBS Sports that at the top of the list for several teams is former NFL head coach and current Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.
Kelly is considered a target for both the Jaguars and Texans OC positions, sources say. He also could get looks in Tampa Bay, among other potential landing spots.
Sources indicated the Jaguars had interest in pairing new head coach Liam Coen with Kelly. Coen is thought to be a play-calling head coach, so it's unclear how involved Kelly would be in calling the plays in-game should that match come to fruition.
But after the Texans fired offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik following two years in that role, sources pointed to Kelly as a logical successor. He was DeMeco Ryans' coach in Philadelphia during his playing days, and he would call the offensive plays without interference considering the head coach comes from the defensive background.
Current Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson and Saintsoffensive coordinator Klint Kubiak are also early candidates for that job, sources say.
Rams pass game coordinator Nick Caley has been a hot name in past years, and that continues this cycle. Caley, who turned down the Patriots OC job last year, is considered the top candidate to join Aaron Glenn's staff with the Jets. He could also draw attention from the Texans.
Probably true, but it's sad.I guess to some people, he shouldn’t be capable of it. Beats me as to why that is.![]()
Because you can't adjust for a lack of talent.BTW. I thought Bill Lazor, the Senior Offensive Assistant was supposed to help and mentor Slowik. What happened?
With his OC experience, shouldn’t he shoulder some blame for Slowik’s performance? What exactly is his role and why wasn’t he fired? Why wasn’t he able to assist with the needed adjustments that were so obvious to many of us?
Not even Slowik's friends and family would claim lack of talent prevented the Texans from making adjustments to score ONE 2nd half TD against the Bears or Jets.Because you can't adjust for a lack of talent.
Against the Bears we had Collins, Diggs, Mixon, Dell, Dalton and Akers. Yeah there was a lack of talent there. Lol you can’t make this up. Lack of talent was not the problem. Not even Slowik's friends and family would claim lack of talent prevented the Texans from making adjustments to score ONE 2nd half TD against the Bears or Jets.
Can't tell you why Lazor wasn't able to help Slowik. But, Lazor did coach under Chip Kelly in Philly. If Kelly gets the OC job, he might want Lazor around. Needless to say, more dismissals will be coming once the new OC is hired. With his OC experience, shouldn’t he shoulder some blame for Slowik’s performance? According to Lance Zierlein, it was CJ who effectively "ordered the code red" on Bobby. Reportedly, there was a pre-draft meeting where Bobby and CJ got into a pretty heated clash over terminology differences between college and the pros. CJ’s camp was initially against him going to Houston, but DeMeco managed to smooth things over. Last season, Bobby tailored the offense to resemble college concepts to help CJ transition into the NFL. This season, they shifted to Bobby's full playbook, and CJ quickly concluded that Bobby “doesn’t know ball.” The situation soured throughout the season. CJ prefers a veteran play caller who is highly knowledgeable and experienced, because he likes to challenge coaches. A similar scenario reportedly happened at Ohio State, where CJ felt the offensive coordinator didn’t “know ball” and communicated directly with Ryan Day instead. This likely rules out first-time offensive coordinators for him moving forward.
True, but are you saying they dont have a talent deficiency on the OL.Not even Slowik's friends and family would claim lack of talent prevented the Texans from making adjustments to score ONE 2nd half TD against the Bears or Jets.
Which one of these guys play on the OL?Against the Bears we had Collins, Diggs, Mixon, Dell, Dalton and Akers. Yeah there was a lack of talent there. Lol you can’t make this up. Lack of talent was not the problem.
So lets see, CJ didn't get along with his OC at OSU nor his OC with the Texans, because supposedly he knew more about ball than they knew. I think it's a fair question to ask, what OC can they bring in that CJ will think that the OC knows more about ball than CJ does? (Short of hiring Ryan Day as OC)
I'm guessing because CJ felt Lazor didn't know ball as well as CJ does. Can't tell you why Lazor wasn't able to help Slowik. But, Lazor did coach under Chip Kelly in Philly. If Kelly gets the OC job, he might want Lazor around. Needless to say, more dismissals will be coming once the new OC is hired.
Not sure how I feel about this...but it gives insight to a post I made regarding a quote by CJ on Slowik.

I agree with you on the OL. However, not being able to score a 2nd half TD against the Jets or Bears indicates more than talent deficiency on the OL. I've seen less talented OL pick up stunts better than this group.True, but are you saying they dont have a talent deficiency on the OL.
One things for sure the OL this yr was a group of dumb individuals. Hopefully they hire a no nonsense Alex Gibbs type OL coach that can decide if who they currently have can be taught or cut loose and he can bring in smarter OL in the draft/FA.
I love Jerrod and think he's going to a fine HC one day, but I'm hoping they hire an experienced OC.
If this is going to be the new narrative. If you were CJ and kept seeing Green backpedaling into the pocket like a DB or Schultz using DEs to practice his matador skills. At what point do you start wondering about the scheme? After 1 or 2 concussions?Apparently CJ thinks he knows more about ball than anybody not named Ryan Day.
This doesn't explain his issues with his OC in college. If this is going to be the new narrative. His OC in college didn't stick around long did he? Perhaps it wasn't just CJ that had a problem with himThis doesn't explain his issues with his OC in college.
Seems like you believe this and you follow college football more than me. So, I have a couple of questions. Did the OC or Ryan Day call the plays in college? If the OC was calling plays, why did Ohio State hire Bill O'Brien as OC and then Chip Kelly? This doesn't explain his issues with his OC in college.
I dont have an answer for your question. I do know at one time Day was calling plays.Seems like you believe this and you follow college football more than me. So, I have a couple of questions. You need to listen to Zierlien in the who do you want for the new OC thread..Seems like you believe this and you follow college football more than me. So, I have a couple of questions. Definitely need a guy to help Cj grow & not a guy Cj needs to help grow.
Looks like he had two offensive coordinators at Ohio State. Do you believe he was this way with Kevin Wilson & Brian Hartline or just Brian Hartline, who was a first time OC?Apparently CJ thinks he knows more about ball than anybody not named Ryan Day.
Wiki says Kevin Wilson went to Tulsa as HC for the 2023 season. Brian Hartline was the WR coach at Ohio State, was promoted to OC in 2023. He was then bumped to assistant to Bill O'Brien, then Chip Kelly in 2024.Perhaps,
Did the OC find another job in college football?
He was the OC from 2016 until 2023 at OSU and didn't have a problem with other QB's. Day and Wilson were co-cordinators and Day kept Wilson on as OC after Day got the HC job, so Day must not have seen Wilson in the same light as CJ did.
Zierlein should have provided this type of context to his statements. Without it, he's just stirring the pot and providing fodder for a Texans Talk narrative. I really don't understand if most posters on this forum could see that Slowik was too slow or didn't make the needed adjustments, why the players wouldn't feel the same way.Wiki says Kevin Wilson went to Tulsa as HC for the 2023 season. I don't follow Ohio State, but I do watch The Office. It sounds like @steelbtexan wants to raise a red flag because CJ (Jim Halpert) spoke to the Regional Manager (Micheal Scott) instead of the Assistant to the Regional Manager (Dwight Schrute).
two guys talking over each other. Headache! Not sure how I feel about this...but it gives insight to a post I made regarding a quote by CJ on Slowik.
What do you think about Ohio State hiring Bill O'Brien to be their OC even though they had Brian Hartline as OC?I realize it wont because most of the fan base wants to believe the best of CJ.
I dont know enough about the inner workings of the OSU football program to have an opinion. What do you think about Ohio State hiring Bill O'Brien to be their OC even though they had Brian Hartline as OC?
Then after BO'b ditched them for Boston they felt they needed to hire another OC though they still have Brian Hartline as their OC?
Seems to me like Slowik expected CJ to put in the work to atcually learn an NFL playbook. Those expectations are a big part of what got him fired. I'm sure after the confrontation that Slowik knew he would be where he's at today, probably sooner than later. I heard that Slowik was a no voice when it came to drafting CJ.I found it interesting, according to Zierlein, that Slowick adjusted his scheme in '23 to accommodate CJ's college playbook. Then in '24 Slowick went to his NFL playbook.
Also, CJ and Slowick had a pre-draft confrontation that Ryans had to smooth over.
I wonder how CJ could adapt to Chip Kelly and his offense?
