Should we trade Watson?

Should we trade Watson?

I think the NFL does not allow you to trade out past 3 years with your picks. That would limit multiple ones for Watson for many teams

do you think when this is all over watson will acctually speak and tell us why he want to get traded ..???? he hasent really been very vocal ..???

Are Harden and Watson the same person? Watson is now saying that he will sit out the season if not traded. Which is kinda dumb seeing preseason alone would cost him 600+ thousand per game and 50k per day of training camp. Meaning he will pretty much get no money for the year. If he is supposed to make say 17mil, at the rate of the fines he would make around 1mil or something like that. It's crazy to do. Plus, the team can just let him rot on the beach if they want. If you are not going to play I suggest retire. Come back in a few years. I think he would have to retire for 2yrs to fully get out of the contract he is in. But I don't know for sure. He may have to be retired for the length of the deal.

Either way he is going to lose money

No. All we know is that it is Cal and Easterby. Past that... take a guess. Seeing the GM part is not it he is ok with the person not ok with the way he learned that he was hired. And HC, he was a great Culley fan at the pro bowl and really liked him and working with him.

Incorrect, if he retires his contract freezes full stop. He can come back in 20 years and still owe the Texans and 5 years of playing. If he sits out his contract freezes as well. Thanks to the new CBA Watson cannot wait out his contract.

I think he has too much class to start badmouthing his former team. I think that he just didn’t like the direction the Texans are headed in.He has burned thru 4 seasons and it appears as though at least another 3 or 4 seasons before they will be competitive again. My guess is several people probably have told him that he has to get out of Houston to salvage his career and grow his brand. The Texans history of trading away good players (Hopkins, Clowney, Brown) is not a good indicator of a team trying to win championships!

I feel the Texans are so talent poor that they have to trade him just to stay medicore. If they keep him do you really think he is going to be any happier next year after another 4 - 12 campaign? It will be more of the same we are seeing right now. I love the way he plays but I do think he is acting a bit entitled. No one made him sign that fat deal 6 months ago. What happen to " I am gonna give everything I have to the Texans"? I guess he doesnt have as much as he or we thought he did. Things get rough so you bail. I guess thats the way people like to roll these days. Its certainly his perogative. Doesnt mean anyone has to like it. I'm not interested in seeing the team leader becoming a locker room cancer. And you better believe everyone on the Texans is watching.

How many of those picks do you think were Caserio or Bill? I read somewhere a while back, Bilechick had final say. I've started reading the book The Dyansty about the Patriots ascension under Kraft. Just wrapped up Parcell's last year, and it's showing that Kraft REALLY loves Bilechick. So I'm curious who really made those picks.
When they had real talent, it was Peiloi, Dimitrof, and Hoodie, so my opinion is Hoodie was drafting the players
T.E.A.M.

All capital letters.
Alright BOB

Caserio didn't all of the sudden become a choice , they had been chasing him for three years.
I'm referring to the suddeness of the hire. Yes, they had been pursuing him but if he was the target all along why were they negotiating with Khan (if true)?

Did this classy guy cryptically tweet this to you?

Because Cal had paid Korn Ferry $500K. It should be noted that Korn Ferry did not recommend Caserio. Keep in mind that is was Bill O'Brien that was in hot pursuit of Caserio. O'Brien could well be screwing the Texans 5 years after his departure.

How is trading Watson solving a problem ? Seems to me it's making things worse.
O
Watson wants a trade and the Texans can’t seem to convince him otherwise. I personally don’t want them to trade Watson. He’s my QB. But I see a broken relationship right now. Just like any other relationship, when one party tries to force the other party to stay, things do not go well. And I say that knowing Watson is a stand up professional, this season proved it. But if he wants out, he wants out.

Now they still have time to impress Watson but again they need to act quick and aggressive. They’re clearly not convincing him right now.
what are the odds their using this time wisely by studying as much tape of the top QBs in this upcoming draft just in case? If they are, and they should be, they might find one of these guys attractive enough to move on from Watson? But I bet their not.

Hell yes we should trade Watson.

1st - He doesn't want to be here, and honestly the way he has acted has made me not want him here.
2nd - Obrien screwed this team royally over the last 2 season, only way to get back on track is through drafting starters

Oh and let me say this, I like the vibe/enthusiasm our new HC coach puts off.

Smoke = Fire

Seeing nobody though we would be talking about him wanting to be traded and here we are. Now, more articles of Watson holding rumors running very hot. Here is one of many articles, this from Chris Simms. A little more credit than the TMZ type.

I'm wondering through all this buffoonery, if Watson is hell bent on leaving why is he concentrating on management vs play on the field. Has he been holding the o-line and running backs to the fire for their suckage in the run game? Has he demanded the entire defense to take paycuts for their inability to exist? Why aren't these type of things being leaked? The direct management that has the most influence to their success on the field has been changed and that would be the coaching staff.

Do a deal and then immediately start doing other deals .
Former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum joined “The Jake Asman Show on SportsMap Radio” to talk about what the Jets should do to acquire disgruntled Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Asman asked the current ESPN analyst if he would hypothetically trade four first-round picks for Watson.

“I would get Nick Caserio on the phone,” Tannenbaum responded. “I would absolutely, do whatever it took. Once you have Deshaun Watson, you create this aura of association.”

Tannenbaum pointed out that Tom Brady’s presence with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers attracted castoffs and players seeking to revitalize their careers in tight end Rob Gronkowski, running back Leonard Fournette, and receiver Antonio Brown. Similarly, Tannenbaum, combined with rookie coach Robert Saleh, former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator, would be able to have that same effect.

“You go get Deshaun Watson, and the New York Jets will be thought about completely differently for the next 10 years,” said Tannenbaum. “And if you have to throw in Quinnen Williams, I don’t care. Because I can go find a Quinnen Williams, but Deshaun Watson is too talented. He’s a great person. He’s a great leader. He’s young. He’s under contract for five years. Whatever it takes, I get Deshaun Watson.”

For the Texans, they would have the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, which would give them plenty of capital to evaluate the incoming class of quarterbacks. Houston would also have three first-round picks thereafter and would have plenty of capital to add younger talent in the draft annually or take a Les Snead route and throw around first-rounders to acquire necessary veteran talent.

Williams, 6-3, 303 pounds, collected 7.5 sacks and would be able to play a similar role that Tommie Harris had in Lovie Smith’s defense with the Chicago Bears from 2004-10.

Maybe this is why he's no longer a GM and is sitting in a TV studio instead??? Although he shares my thoughts on this matter.

No Bob McNair was in hot pursuit of Caserio. I think almost every front office decision the Texans have made over the last 3 years have been with the goal of landing Caserio. They hired Easterby who is a personal friend of Caserio, they extended OB after a horrible meltdown again because he was a personal friend of Caserio, even making OB the GM I think was done so that it would be easy to move him out of the position with a "Bill is stepping down as GM to focus on his duties as HC". If they had hired a GM they would have had to give him a contract and nobody is going to take a job as a one year GM. I read an article from the Boston Globe back when the tampering charges came up and it was talking about Caserio and how no team had ever been able to lure him out of NE, and yes there were offers, but the Texans might can because of his friendship with Easterby and OB.

As far as Korn Ferry goes people keep throwing out that 500k number but thats peanuts to a company like the Texans and once the bean counters get ahold of it they can write part of it off. Even then why are people talking about the Korn Ferry recommendations as if they were good? They recommended Riddick who hasn't been in an NFL front office in 10 years and some guy already working for the Texans who was in no way qualified. The only good recommendation on their list was Khan who is not more qualified just different skill sets. Why do people also keep ignoring that it was Korn Ferry and their recommendation that lead to OB being hired.

These inconvenient facts keep getting in the way of the narrative don't they.

If they can get 8-10 starters out of the next 2 draft, which they should be able to do with the NYJ picks and their own picks then I really don't care about what other players think because they will be winning games and players like to go to winning teams. Especially if they can make money, which the players should be able to do with DW4/Watt/Mercilus etc.. off of the books and plenty of cap space available this not only could happen but likely will happen. Gotta draft the right rookie QB though.

Hey 80 they need to come up with a you don't like me button. Because there's nothing to not like about this post.

Thanks for making me lol this morning.

I'm probably one of the few who doesn't want him gone and would do everything I could to avoid it .... and if he sits out , he sits out. He can sit 21 , 22 & 23 if that's what he wants to do ... he's wasting his own time and earning potential.

I'm with you, except-

The message from the Texans is that Caserio will be handling this and all contract negotiations/disputes going forward. The message from Caserio to Watson and his agent is that if he wants to hold out his services from the Texans, he can do that for the rest of his life. We're not going to allow him to decide where he gets to play as long as he is under contract with us. He can waive the no trade clause from his contract, however, and if we get a favorable offer from another team we can trade him to that team.

He may be willing to sit out a year, maybe even two before he gets that no trade clause removed from his contract. But I believe he will restructure his contract to where the Texans can trade him to a team they want to trade him to, not where Watson necessarily wants to go. And if he happens to be traded in 2022 to the worst NFL team to ever exist, well then, that's just too bad.

If DW4 seriously wants to be traded the first order of business should be he repay the $27MM signing bonus he received. Along with an amended contract that alleviates that money from the Texans salary cap. If that is not feasible the trade demands go to 5 1st RD draft picks or he sits until those demands can be met. IMHO.

The future looks pretty bleak from ever perspective, including the new coach hire!

He needs to just to go ahead and hold out a year. We'll get our VERY high draft picks in each round in 2022 and hopefully he'll come around.
It's possible he could never play again and those are the cards we hold. Why the hell should we give him up?!? Especially since he just signed the contract, and with Easterby no less! . We had to trade up to get him (didn't we move up a few spots?) I sure don't want to do him any favors for doing us like that.

He saw a small hole (reason) where he could escape with the money and decided to run. He saw the handwriting on the wall that was saying, it would be hard, almost impossible to win a division in the next couple years much less a Super Bowl. And with the Patriot Clowns now running the show this wasn't going to happen regardless. Unfortunately this is about DW4 and nobody else.
