Shipley’s big day leads No. 2 Texas, 35-3

AUSTIN, Texas (AP)—At the end of his big day, a group of Texas fans were chanting Jordan Shipley’s name when he was pushed out of a group of Longhorns players, flashed a quick “Hook’em Horns” salute and jumped back into the pack.

For a guy who seldom likes to talk about himself, even he had to acknowledge the best day ever by a Longhorns receiver.

“That was fun,” Shipley said. “I was trying to hide in the back but those linemen grabbed me and tossed me out in front of everyone.”

Shipley caught 11 passes for a school-best 273 yards and a touchdown as No. 2 Texas shook off a slow start for a 35-3 win Saturday over Central Florida. His total yards smashed the previous school best of 242 set by Tony Jones against Pittsburgh in the 1987 Bluebonnet Bowl.

I watched the game this afternoon and both Jordan and Colt are a beast. Both should be great NFL players for whatever team they end up going to. Both have brothers who are going to play football at UT might we see one Shipley McCoy duo in the NFL draft this year and then the next a few years from now we shall see only time will tell.

Jordan could be a very good slot WR in the NFL for somebody. I still don't know about Colt in the NFL. He still can't read defenses well and his downfield accuracy leaves a lot to be desired.

Shipley's little brother is apparently a big time hoss but Colt's little brother is only getting an offer from Texas because of what Colt has done for the program. Case will never pass Gilbert on the depth chart and he likely won't get past Conner Wood either.

You never know who is going to play well at the higher level. I have noticed Colt's struggles sometimes but I have also seen both sides of the coin where players coming out of NCCA football and get the right traing and work out the kinks in their game because they learn a lot once they are at the NFL level. I've also seen many who where good at the NCAA level but did not have the tools to be good in the NFL level so they sucked. For me it's all about the learning curve for the players coming into the NFL it's about where that curve begins and where it ends. With the correct coaching he might get better at reading a D or he might not it might just be the way he has learned to play. It may never be fixable. Who knows? That's a risk teams take when they draft someone they don't ever know for sure if a player is going to be a boom or a bust but yet the draft must continue. In the crazy game of football Colt may end up being great and Jordan may be a bust or that might be the case for both of them which I highly doubt but I'm just trying to how crazy the game of football really is or any sport for that matter and how you just never know who might pan out in the long run.

I don't know why anyone who plays Texas doesn't double Shipley all game. You KNOW that's where Colt wants to go every time he drops back to look downfield.
