Looks like Sherman is hitting the ground sprinting on his recruiting....
Derrick Hall is Dante cousin and a 4 star national top 100 guy
Can a 15-minute conversation change a person's future? It appears that is exactly what happened on Wednesday night with Beaumont Central athlete Derrick Hall.
Derrick Hall is slated to play tailback in coach Sherman's new system at A&M
Hall, who has been committed to Texas A&M since February, had been wavering to the point that he was very close to de-committing from the Aggies and writing them off completely as recently as this evening. However, a phone call from newly-appointed head coach Mike Sherman changed all of that.
"Whoo, that man gave me chills," Hall said of Sherman. "He called me up tonight and talked to me for at least 15 minutes. He said that he talked to me longer than he's even talked to anybody at A&M."
Hall, who measures in at 5-foot-10 and 201 pounds, can play a number of positions, but he has an admitted preference. It turns out that the new Aggie coach had the same thing in mind.
"He said, 'What do you think you wanna play in college?'" Hall said of Sherman. "I just said that I'm an athlete. He said, 'Well, I'm gonna tell you the honest truth, I've seen a lot of talent in the NFL and I see you as a running back all the way. I'll play you as a freshman hands down.'
"I was like, 'This man has coached some serious guys in the league and he's telling me he can get me ready for that.' He's an NFL coach. He knows what he's talking about. I was just like, 'Dang.'"
In fact, Sherman's other NFL connections impressed the Rivals100 prospect as well.
"He said he's gonna put together a staff of a bunch of guys that have coached in the league," said Hall. "That blew me away. I realized that I was talking to Mike Sherman! Mike Sherman is sitting here on the phone with me telling me that he sees me as a big-time running back!
"He asked me how much I weighed 'like 180 or something.' I told him I was a little over 200 pounds and he said he couldn't believe that a guy my size was that fast. He asked me what I ran in the 100 (meter dash) and I told him and he was really impressed. He said he was gonna use me next year for sure."
In the obvious excitement following the conversation, Hall said that he had done a 180-degree turn in his thinking from earlier in the night.
"I tell you what I'm an Aggie; rock-solid," said Hall. "Change me back to a solid commit. He got me excited for next year. I've still got chills.
"We're gonna have a totally different team next year. It's gonna be a different attitude. We're gonna come out and surprise some folks. I can't tell you, man I'm just excited."
Hall had an official visit scheduled to Missouri in a week and a half but he says that he has no plans to take that trip any longer.
"I'm cancelling that Missouri visit," said Hall. "I'm an Aggie. Mark it down. There's no need for me to visit [Missouri] anymore."
