Shawn Oakman

Marshall

Not pretty, but ALIVE!
Forgive me if there is another thread on him, but I couldn't find it.

If he is still on the board at 16, is he a viable choice after his history with BOB? In case you didn't hear it or forgot it, Shawn was kicked off the Penn State Team by BOB before he transferred to Baylor. But he has since said it was a turning point.

I'd like to see how he would do across from JJ at least some of the time in a rotation with Crick and in a few instances with both in a 4 man front. But combine that with a hopefully healthy Clowney and we might have a DLine for the ages as well as the best DE in Football.

He announced this morning that he is returning for his final year. I think it's the right decision for him as he's too inconsistent and nowhere near as dominant as his measureables would lead you to believe.

A strong final season could have him in play for a top 5 pick.

If he was as dominate as his measurables lead you to believe he would be a super hero. Sure he could have a good year and get better and be drafted top 5 next year. He also could get his knee blown out and have his career ruined.

He would be better off coming out this year IMO. His "measurables" would get him drafted high. You know he's going to blow up at the combine. Even if he did fall a little at least he would be going to a good team. If you are considered a first round pick and you go back to school you are playing Russian roulette with your career.

I don't consider him a 1st round pick by his play on the field. For one and a half years at Baylor he looked like Tarzan and played like Jane. Like you said, he's only considered a high pick because of his measureables. He was invisible last year and was pretty invisible this year as well until racking up 5 sacks in Baylor's last few games.

I don't expect him to be a superhero, but I do expect him to be an impact player and he's only been one for about 4 games. Mario Williams had 39 TFL and 20.5 Sacks his final 2 years in school. Clowney had 35.5 TFL and 21 Sacks as a freshman and sophomore before coasting his junior year. Those numbers get you drafted top 5. Racking up 13 Sacks in 2 years isn't top 10 worthy.

I'm speaking purely as an evaluator. I'm sure NFL teams want him to come out so they can get their hands on him. I see the kind of potential he has and notice that he's not close to it yet. That's why I think he should come back.
