I didn't see a thread about this but I heard this on the news yesterday.
The SF player that died a few weeks ago...his death was caused by heart disease. They found a blockage; no trace of drugs other than the drugs they administered in trying to save him.
I am somewhat surprised that with all the NFL money out there that the players aren't given heart scans, echocardiograms or whatever there is available nowadays to detect heart disease. I do know that a routine EKG often misses heart problems so I guess that is what is given during a NFL physical.
I am guessing but the way the information was given on his death was that had his disease been known he could have had surgery and his life saved. It would have perhaps cost him his football career but certainly not his life.
