Sexual Assault Suits Against Watson

I bet the apology was a result of Goodell rejecting his 8 game, $5 million offer. First he makes an offer & then he attempts a weak apology of sorts. Next, he'll start begging Goodell for a second chance. It appears to me that the writing is on the wall. Can you say indefinite suspension?

"A finely-craft non-apology" is what most are feeding back.

This country is struggling to produce grown ass men these days.. just overgrown children? (I'm going to leave Mahomes out of this, my family is crazy AF too).
Yeah don't you wish we could go back to the good old days of the drunk Kenny stabler, many of the Dallas Cowboys, Dan pastorini and on and on?

Still better than going back and having to be babysat to make sure you didn’t gets grabbing with the massage therapist. What is up with this generation of QBs, Lawrence looks like he’s high all the time, Mahomes can’t control his crazy brother and girlfriend, Murray has to have it literally written in his contract that he has to study game film and Watson......yeah.

Makes me glad the biggest personal knock on Mills so far is his Reed Richards neck.
I think you're like the get off my lawn old guy. We live in a 24hr news cycle now so everything is right now. Back in the gap, I'm 51, we didn't hear about things until the evening news or the next day. Imagine Joe Namath and Dan Marino being reported on all day ,everyday. We don't have a clue what those guys where doing, but if you do some digging, you can find out much more now vs then. Every generation thinks the following generation is softer. My dad was born is one of the most racist places in the world, Jasper,Tx in 1935 and I know for a fact my life is alot easier than his life. I know my son who's a top recruit, life is better than mine because my dad laid foundation for me to succeed.

News flash partner, Joe Namath and Dan Marino didn’t need it written into their contracts that they couldn’t play games or watch TV or whatever while studying game film, they didn’t need it written into their contracts that they had to study a certain amount of time a day like a high school kid.

And none of these guys needed anyone to tell them “oh by the way it’s not ok to sexually assault 24+ women, just wanted to make sure you were aware of that.” That has nothing to do with a “24 hour news cycle” and everything to do with not being a POS excuse for a human being.

These guys are paid more money in one season than most will see in a lifetime and they are paid it to play a game and add nothing of value to society. I think a little maturity is not to much to ask for.

Oh and by the way I am much closer to their age than you so yeah it has nothing to do with me being a “get off my lawn old guy”. I just have little tolerance for overpaid, entitled man babies that become multi millionaires before 25 and think their life is so hard.

Also, if there was a 24 hour news cycle back then, they would have likely been smart enough to keep it better in control and/or hidden better from the public.

It wasn't, and I'm not talking about Watson and his ridiculous off the field transgression. If something happens in Miami at 3am, we wouldn't find out about it until 3 hrs later, now we know now. We find out things instantly about everything, that's just the facts.

Was it Kenny Stabler or Pastorini who would hang out at Gilley's late on a Saturday night before a Sunday game? Can you imagine the social media posts and selfies?

Florio continues to be a real tool............a tool of team Watson.

When will Peter Harvey issue a ruling on Deshaun Watson?
Posted by Mike Florio on August 15, 2022, 10:23 AM EDT

Twelve days ago, the NFL appealed Judge Sue L. Robinson’s ruling in the Deshaun Watson case. The rules require that the appeal process be expedited. Currently, it doesn’t feel as if appeals officer Peter Harvey is expediting anything.

On Friday, just as the momentum was building for a ruling, credible talk of a potential settlement emerged. Watson reportedly is willing to accept a suspension of eight games and pay a fine in the amount of $5 million. The league presumably won’t slip below 10 games, and the league may want a fine in the range of $10 million — the salary Watson earned in 2021 for not playing.

If a settlement happens, both sides need to explain that the fine converts his absence from money for nothing into nothing from nothing. Although some continue to insist that Watson didn’t play last year for reasons unrelated to his off-field situation, he would have been traded to the Dolphins but for the lingering legal problems. Indeed, he likely would have been traded to someone before the 2021 draft, since it was clear he would not play for the Texans again.

If he pays a $10 million fine, Watson and the league can credibly argue that Watson actually served an unpaid suspension for all of last season. With 10 games in 2022 on top of that, this may placate those who would argue that the league was too lenient with Watson.

Regardless, if there’s a window currently open for a settlement, at some point it will close. At some point, Harvey needs to issue a ruling. It’s hard to imagine the situation lingering much longer.

Settlement remains very possible in Deshaun Watson’s disciplinary case

Appeals officer Peter Harvey continues to delay his decision in the Deshaun Watson case, apparently not because he’s undecided or procrastinating. Harvey is believed to be waiting to see whether the league and Watson can work out a deal.

The possibility of settlement remains viable, we’re told. Currently, it could go either way. As such things usually do. But this one truly falls into the toss-up category. We’ll wait and see if the NFL and Watson can find a middle ground.

Watson’s sudden turn toward remorse is surely part of the effort to negotiate a better outcome than the one he’d otherwise experience. It’s hard to regard this belated awakening as authentic, given the months of doubling down and reciting talking points about never harassing, assaulting, or disrespecting any woman.

Then there’s the fact that his lawyer, Rusty Hardin, has publicly said he believes all of the women making accusations against Watson were lying. So was Hardin just lying about all the lying, or was he just misinformed?

Privately, those close to Watson were equally zealous. They expressed dismay that reporters weren’t exposing the flaws in the claims against him, ignoring the simple fact that it’s their job to develop and expose such weaknesses. If they eventually have to do it for a jury in court, why not do it in the court of public opinion?

But now, the message is apology and contrition. It’s a far cry from anger and denial. Real or not, Watson apparently realized he was closing in on being caught on the wrong side of checkmate. Even if the NFL Players Association has grand plans for a federal-court challenge to a longer suspension, the fact remains that the NFL has consistently prevailed — and that the CBA was specifically negotiated to reserve final say to the league after other high-profile suspensions made their way through the court system.

What a shame if Roger does this.

Wonder what the hold-up is with Harvey and making a final decision. The longer this drags out the more it makes me think he is also encouraging the NFL to negotiate something with Watson because they will not get what they desire.

The Doug Gottlieb Show

The Doug Gottlieb ShowDeshaun Watson's Hollow Apology is a Day Late and a Dollar Short
ByWil Leitner
Aug 16, 2022

Deshaun Watson: “I'm truly sorry to all the women that I've impacted in this situation. My decisions that I made in my life that put me in this position, I would definitely like to have back. I want to continue to move forward and grow and learn and show that I am a true person of character. I want to keep pushing forward."
Doug Gottlieb: “What do you think this does, if anything, to his appeal?”
Dan Beyer: “It does absolutely nothing. It is a day late and a dollar short. Everything is settled, there’s what -- one case that is still out there? The evidence has been put in, the arguments have been put out on both sides, NOW he shows remorse??…. Because he’s got nothing to lose? Another thing I didn’t like about it – the Browns are playing at 7:00 eastern time, it’s 6:40 eastern time, and they put it on the website 20 minutes before kickoff, and say ‘He’s now remorseful, on to football! Let’s focus on the game!’ That’s the sense that I got. It was tone-deaf. It was like, 'now let’s talk about what the Browns’ record is going to be again!' Twenty minutes before kickoff??”
Gottlieb: “The timing of it is very odd.”
Jason Stewart: “My first reaction was that he really didn’t explain what he’s ‘truly sorry’ for. When he says ‘all the women that have been impacted’, he didn’t necessarily say the women that accused him of this, it could have been his sister, his mother, or any women’s Browns fans that have been impacted by this. He wasn’t specific at all, which to me kind of rang hollow. Not only was it a day late and a dollar short, it wasn’t even a great apology. There was nothing specific there. This guy said six weeks ago that he had 'no regrets' about anything he had ever done with the accusers. He’s completely denied everything. How do you go from complete denial and no regrets, to ‘I’m truly sorry’ within a matter of six weeks? Because you now know that the punishment is coming and you’re trying to do as much as possible to mitigate that, and it comes off that way. I don’t know who was sold by that.”
Listen to Doug Gottlieb, Dan Beyer, and Jason Stewart discuss Deshaun Watson finally offering

Any settlement at this point shows weakness on behalf of the NFL. All the mouth talking and play on Sue Robinson’s words of egregious and predatory only to allow Watson make his punishment. Totally negative light on NFL.

John Lopez was just saying the same thing- for once I agree with him. His theory is that the NFL is terrified about ending up in Fed court- which I don't get.

Deshaun Watson settlement remains possible at any time (but a real deadline would be helpful)
Posted by Mike Florio on August 17, 2022, 12:28 PM EDT

The Deshaun Watson settlement talks continue. Whether and when they end remains to be seen.

One of the practical problems is that there’s no real deadline for getting a deal done. Appeals officer Peter Harvey will hold the ruling until the NFL tells him that the settlement possibilities have been exhausted. With the league apparently very willing to opt for settlement over imposing a lengthy suspension and taking their chances in court, the league apparently will be willing to let this play out a little longer.

Against that backdrop, Dan Graziano of ESPN.com has reported that “sources close to the Deshaun Watson situation believe a resolution could come today or tomorrow.” (Or it could happen the next day. Or the next.)

Graziano adds that “it’s unclear how much longer [Harvey] will wait.” The truth is he’ll wait as long as the league tells him to wait.

As one source with knowledge of the dynamics explains it to PFT, it has been the case for a while that a settlement could come at any time — or it could blow up and not happen.

So where is the sweet spot? We’re currently getting the impression that the suspension will be up to 12 games and the fine will be south of $5 million. If there’s a settlement.

Either way, stay tuned. Without a real and imminent deadline, however, you could be staying tuned for a while.

****************************************************************

It seems that since team Watson refused the 12 game suspension in the past, it would be unlikely that the League now would accept the same.

Another WTF from Florio:

Someone will have to explain this to me...........take your time........
I don't think anyone know, they just have theories. The only thing I can think of is the nfl doesn't want this to go to federal court under any circumstances. Its one thing with with depressurizing footballs, but this can open up all kind of worms they don't want to come out. I mean, who knows what others workers inside the nfl feel unprotected from situations like this. Again, I'm only speculating, but something is going on to the point they're negotiating or that's being reported. I'd imagine if I called Kirwin, he probably could give me something more than Florio.

Having spoken to 2 sports attorneys, I have a problem believing that in this situation, the League fears a Fed court sitting at all.

If one is even to believe that any real negotiations are going on................I have managed to arm twist the details from Aaron Wilson and Mary Cabot of the only negotiations going on at this time.
